The Insane Challenge - 2013
I'm planning on doing this challenge, I'm not sure what books I will read. I'm not looking forward to some of these genres, but It's part of exploring literature.
Wow, I would like to try this one. Are these books that we choose included in the ones that we are reading for this group. I think the 24 book one is more for me.

The mods decided that instead of reading two books for the book club we will challenge people. This is an extra challenge for people interested in exploring more. The regular book club book will still run as normal

You have a year to complete it, if all goes well we might make it a regular event

I'm in! Maybe I won't have the time to read 36 books for this, but this is definitely the most interesting level, I wouldn't want to stick to the cookie-cutter genres. And I've always wanted to read a graphic novel! Oh, I'm exciteeeed!
You can always try the 12, 24 book challenge. We try to offer a good mix, I believe all the challenges have graphic novel in it.
I will try this one. I actually read almost all those genres anyway but there are few I've never tried.
I'm looking forward to this challenge. I guess now is the time to start planning what I'm going to read for 2013!
Good to see so many planning to do the 36 Book challenge. I guess if this goes well we might have to add a 48 book challenge next time :P
This is terrific! Some of the genres I'm most excited about are the ones I've never read! My 2013 reading will start with this challenge - can't wait!
Well I've pretty much finalised my choices apart from two I'm still deciding on.Erotica - Fanny Hill, or Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure
Victorian - Great Expectations
Nice choices, I don't know if I can plan that far ahead. But I was looking as some of the genres I don't normally read and think I'll try;
Addition for Chick-Lit
A Sport and a Pastime for Erotica
The Time Traveler's Wife for Romance

I'm especially looking for Graphic Novels in German (translated or original). Any suggestions for that? If not, my local library has a small selection of Graphic Novels, among them a Jim Morison biography, which I would choose over the others (mostly novel adaptations).
Yihaa for Alan Moore's hairstyle BTW ;)
Well because I wanted to make life easier for myself and ease back on the number of challenges next year - I am going to do the Insane challenge! There are a couple of genre that will be a struggle for me - the chief being Noir! Will run a mile rather than read it! Is there such a thing as light and fluffy noir! Hmmm - I thought not!
sorry Sally, light and fluffy noir is an oxymoron. Maybe try something like Dare Me, while it's still dark, it's probably more accessible than other.
I'd like to join in please, I love reading challenges, have been wanting to read more from different genres for a while and always have a 52 books per year personal challenge. This sounds perfect for me. I don't intend to plan too far ahead, maybe a months worth of books at a time.
Angela's Ashes has been sitting on my bookshelf for half a year, so I shall start with Biography.Oh I am sooo excited. Love this challenge.Thank you for thinking this up.
I've got my list together. Here it is.
Cyberpunk – Cinder
Educational – Free-Range Kids: Giving Our Children the Freedom We Had Without Going Nuts with Worry
Espionage - Angelmaker
Fantasy - Crescendo
Graphic Novels - Maus, Vol. 1: My Father Bleeds History
Horror - The Strain
Paranormal – Sins of the Night
Philosophical – Lord of the Flies
Poetry – Out of Australia
Post-Apocalyptic – Delirium
Steampunk – Clockwork Angel
Supernatural - Need
True Crime – In Cold Blood
Urban Fantasy - The Rook
Victorian - Soulless
Thanks Brenda. And a big thanks to Michael for helping me with my list. I got stuck on more than a few genre.
Now that I've got them selected I can't wait to start reading them :D

Some of them are certainly hard to work out when we're not used to them;)
Michael wrote: "sorry Sally, light and fluffy noir is an oxymoron. I dont want to fix on all the books right now, except the first one. I shall take inspiration from all of you as I go along. But i intend to complete one book per genre, and keep you all informed where i am, and exchange notes if possible.:-)
I know it's insane but I am going to give it a go with the flexibility of swapping them as I see appropriate:-

[bookcover:Steve Jobs: The Man Who Thought Diff..."That's nice - how do you line them up like that?
Just leaves out all the spaces or line brakes you would usually use to sepera two strings/words. Does that help?
