I write books I'd like to read but haven't been written yet so I have to do it myself. I don't work from outlines so, juts like a reader, I'm pushing forward to find out what happens next. Mind you, that's a first draft. After that it's the same work as it is for everybody: editing, rewriting, polishing, which often takes longer than that first draft.(less)

Probably the most honest answer is whatever I happen to be working on at the present but I'm fond and proud of most of my books.

If pressed I might say the collection Dreams Underfoot because it was writing those stories that taught me how to write a short story and I loved finally figuring it out after many years of writing stories that never quite seemed to match the feeling I wanted to convey.(less)

DRM (Digital Rights Management) drives me crazy. It only exists to lock the reader/listener/viewer to a certain platform. If you change the medium you want to use to access your purchase you have to buy it again. It’s like buying a book or record, then moving to a new house and finding out that they only work in your old house.
Cory Doctorow, long a proponent of DRM-free products, has once again p

“Remember the quiet wonders. The world has more need of them than it has for warriors.”
Charles de Lint, Moonheart

“I do believe in an everyday sort of magic -- the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone.”
Charles de Lint

“I want to be magic. I want to touch the heart of the world and make it smile. I want to be a friend of elves and live in a tree. Or under a hill. I want to marry a moonbeam and hear the stars sing. I don't want to pretend at magic anymore. I want to be magic.”
Charles de Lint
