2012 January - Pick It For Me! Challenge

Welcome the New Year
1. First Day: Your tastes are quite extensive, hard to say what is outside your comfort zone, I am going to go with Fifty Shades of Grey.
2. Second Day: Sandra Brown is your most read so we'll go with Adam's Fall
3. Third Day: 500+ pages sounds long to me, Twisted has 564
During the New Year
4. Goodbye, Rabbit!: Here is a little Canadian flare for ya. A Quick Bite
5. Welcome, Dragon!: Hot cover and HOT book!!!! The Darkest Night
6. Poor Cat: Dark Slayer
7. Pass the Luck Around: Born of Nightor First Grave on the Right
Celebrate The New Year (Buddy Reads)
8. Spread The Love: Raziel
9. Lantern Festival: Awaken Me Darkly

I've been dreading this day. I just knew it was bound to happen eventually. I think my response when I saw that I was picking for you was “noooooooo!” Yeah, yeah, yeah. Freedom to recommend anything. No limitations. Blah, blah, blah. :-P I was tempted to make everything a historical romance. Hope you can find something that you want to read!!
1. First Day: Both of these are steampunk flavored. But, The Iron Duke is set in Victorian England and Leviathan is YA set during WWI.
2. Second Day: You're missing the ebook True Colors by Thea Harrison and Slow Ride by Erin McCarthy before you're caught up in both series.
3. Third Day: I'm cheating and using your owned books list for this one. Until I Find You by John Irving

4. Goodbye, Rabbit: It's a common thing for Texans to refer to Texas as its own country. So, I'm recommending Don't Mess with Texas. Or, following the rules, there's Warrior which is an Indian Jones-ish sort of adventure set in Mongolia.
5. Hello, Dragon: The Mane Event is really funny.
6. Poor Cat: I couldn't believe you hadn't read anything by Kresley Cole. A Hunger Like No Other isn't her best book, but the IAD series gets better with every book.
7. Pass the Luck Around: This series was recommended by a friend. The Unsung Hero is romantic suspense/contemporary romance. Like IAD, the series gets better.

8. Spread The Love: Mind Games
9. Lantern Festival: The Next Best Thing or Talking About Sex...

Welcome the New Year
1. First Day:
(Help them welcome the New Year with a challenge!) Challenge your pickee by recommending a book that is out of their comfort zone. You don't have much paranormal in your TBR but this is a YA series that I really liked The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
2. Second Day:
(Daughters go back to their birth homes) Choose a book from their favorite authors/genre or a book from one of their well-rated on-going series You rated Stolen highly so I thought you might want to go back to the first book and read more about Elena and Clay. Bitten by Kelley Armstrong
3. Third Day:
(People will stay at home today) Pick a long book from their TBR that will occupy them on this day. I have not read this, but it is highly rated and long and on your TBR so...The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
During the New Year
4. Goodbye, Rabbit!:
(Rabbits enjoy learning about other culture) . Recommend a book that is set in a different country than your pickee is from. I saw Cry Wolf in you TBR but that is a spin-off series from this one and I would start with these if I were choosing. I love Mercy Thompson! Moon Called by Patricia Briggs
5. Welcome, Dragon!:
(Dragons are powerful and HOT :P) Pick a book with a HOT cover or an all-round yummy hot book. Great series!!Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh
6. Poor Cat:
(Cat was left out of the zodiac because of rat's trick) Recommend a book from their TBR that has been neglected or a book that you think should be pushed up. You've read the others, so you should complete the story by reading this one. It gives an interesting picture of what was going on from Edward's point of view. Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyers
7. Pass the Luck Around:
Recommend a book (or two) you loved that was recommended to you (either by your friend or from the previous PIFM). The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (and the rest of the trilogy) These were probably the best books I read all year!!! and I can't wait for the movie to come out in March!!!!
Celebrate The New Year (Buddy Reads)
8. Spread The Love:
Share the new books/series you are psyched to read in the New Year that your pickee hasn't read yet. This is one I've been planning to start so we could do it together. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
9. Lantern Festival:
(Matchmakings happen today) Pick the books from your pickee's TBR that caught your eye. I'm unfamiliar with this one but it sounds great so let me know if you'd like to buddy read it. Leaving Paradise by Simone Elkeles

Welcome the New Year!
1. First Day: This maybe way out of your comfort zone, but I found this to be one of the best books I've read. Promises is a m/m romance that is heavy on the story/intimacy side instead of the sex side. It's a good one try in that genre.
Daughter of the Blood is a fantasy novel that grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go. I fell in love with Lucivar, Saetan and Daemon within the first 100 pages.
2. Second Day:You rated Garden Spells, The Peach Keeper, and The Sugar Queen highly, but I do not see The Girl Who Chased the Moon on your shelves. I adored this book.
3. Third Day: You've several long books on your shelves, but these look promising:
World Without End (1014 pgs) You've read the first and liked it, why not the second?
Gone With the Wind (1011 pgs) Timeless classic novel about the American civil War

During the New Year
4. Goodbye, Rabbit!: I'm not sure if it's cultural unless you count vampires as having a culture, but it's a great read: Glass Houses set in America (Texas if I remember correctly)
Hollywood Culture: Just the Sexiest Man Alive I wish this was made into a movie. It's one of those books that make you laugh, giggle, and sigh
5. Welcome, Dragon!: Dragon hot... Dragon Bound ...Dragos is yummy!
The Darkest Night The beginning to a smoking series
6. Poor Cat: To Kill a Mockingbird is a powerful novel that is a wonderful read the 1st and the 30th time you read it. Every time I read it, I find new sides to the story, but I always am amazed at the beauty of the writing.
The Count of Monte Cristo, Volume I Revenge and sword play! Dumas is a master at both.
7. Pass the Luck Around:
Dark Prince
Pleasure Unbound

Celebrate The New Year (Buddy Reads)
8. Spread The Love:
The Iron Duke
Tempest Rising
9. Lantern Festival: Proof by Seduction or one that will make me cry, The Last Lecture

I do enjoy most books I read so I'm sure I would like all of your picks. That does make it a little tough to choose but I will start with Immortal Rider because I have it sitting here waiting. I want to fit in Dragon Bound this month also. I love Kate Daniels so I've been wanting to get to the Edge series too. I will definitely read Lothaire but I may not be able to get it from the library with it not coming out until later in the month. Thanks for all the great picks!!

Welcome the New Year:
1. First Day: Uglies by Scott Westerfeld I had so many amazing books to suggest that are out of your comfort zone, but I ended up picking this one. It's a science fiction one, in a world different from anything you've ever read so far.
2. Second Day: Splendid by Julia Quinn - I noticed that you're a fan of Julia Quinn and yet you haven't read her first novel! I also read it after some of her later series, but it's one you'll enjoy as well as you did the rest of them.
3. Third Day: Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon - I've read the first book, too, and I've been meaning to read this one so maybe you can read it and tell me what you think. It certainly qualifies as a long book!
During the New year:
4. Goodbye, Rabbit!: Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden - A beautiful story set in Japan. I listened to the audiobook version of this book and enjoyed it immensely!
5. Welcome, Dragon!: Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James - You've got this one on your TBR and it's definitely yummy, so here you go.
6. Poor Cat: Simply Irresistible by Rachel Gibson - You liked the Chicago Stars series and this one will probably remind you a little of it since they both have athletes as their main characters, but this one's a little lighter and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Pass the Luck Around: Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles - I think you'll really like this story of forbidden love, especially since you enjoy romance so much. I'm surprised you haven't already read it!
Celebrate The New Year:
8. Spread The Love: Divergent by Veronica Roth - I've been really looking forward to reading this one and I'll probably do so as soon as possible, so maybe you could join me? I know it's a little different from what you usually read so I'm also going to suggest something we could definitely both enjoy:
Potent Pleasures by Eloisa James - I've read another series by this author and she's one of the big names in the historical romance world so maybe we could read her first book together.
9. Lantern Festival: The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley - I've been meaning to read this one for a while but it never came up. I saw it in your TBR and it definitely caught my eye so here it is!
So, these are my suggestions for January. I hope you'll find something you'll want to read in there.
Happy 2012 and happy reading! ^_^

Thanks Shell!! I'll just take a look now at the rules, the pairing and I'll come back to see all these wonderful picks you chose for me.

ok lady, here goes. Good luck and let me know what you think cause I'm never sure about other peoples ideas of a good book versus what I like
1.first day-The Courage to Love
2.second day- Dark Celebration
3. third day - Private Demon
4. goodbye rabbit-Devil of the Highlands
5. welcome dragon-Nauti Boy
6. poor cat-Four Play
7. pass the luck-Sundays At Tiffanys
8. spread the love-Double Shot
9. lantern festival-Delicate Freakn' Flower,Some Like It Roughor [book:Texas Men|5279037. I picked more than one for this pick so that you could decide which one you thought would be best

Welcome the New Year
1. First Day: Hot Head, this was an awesome m/m read recommended to me recently. The story is strong, the characters are GREAT and the NYC flavor is truly savory.
2. Second Day: Okay, so you've enjoyed a NY Blades short story and mention that you are seeking out the rest of the series, so why not kick it off in 2012 with: Body Check. I am a total hockey fan and I just love this series for the insider view aspect that Martin brings to it. She clearly knows hockey and hockey players. It's pretty delightful.
3. Third Day: A Discovery of Witches Get this on audio if you can manage it. I'm a little more than halfway through right now and I'm just loving it!!! (though I've heard the first 250 pages are a yawn if you pick up the book...)
During the New Year
4. Goodbye, Rabbit!: Straight Up, this is another Deirdre Martin book, it's a spin off from the NY Blades series (so not about a hockey player) and even though it's book 3, you don't really need all the others because this is the only one that takes place in Ireland (all the rest take place in NY).
5. Welcome, Dragon!: Try either Born to be Bad, the cover isn’t super hot (though not too shabby either), but you enjoyed Wild Card…this series is in a similar vein. Or When You Dare– hot cover and one of my fave reads of 2011
6. Poor Cat: Push up: Bound to Please, one of my fave reads of 2010, yummy musician and a departure from the hockey players and law enforcement types that I've recommended so far
7. Pass the Luck Around: Born of Night - this is a sci-fi/assassin/future/space love story...sounds ridiculous, but I love Sherrilyn Kenyon and this is one of my faves. Or for something a little less "out there", you could try Broken, this is book 2 of a series, but I read it first and wasn't lost (and didn't really like book 1 all that much when I went back and read it), but I loved Quinn. Loved him. Ex-military guy.
Celebrate The New Year (Buddy Reads)
8. Spread The Love: This was a hard category for me because the few books that I'm really psyched to read this year are all either deep into series I love or coming out later than January, so I went back to my TBR to find stuff I've had on there that I really want to try: Once Bitten, Twice Shy, wanna try Jaz Parks. Or maybe: The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie, which I see is on your TBR as well
9. Lantern Festival: I added both of these to my TBR, since I enjoy both authors and the first seems to be a stand alone book: And One Last Thing ... and then there's: Animal Magnetism.
Hope you find something you'd like to try here. And let me know if you're interested in any of the buddy reads this month, I'd be up for it.
Have a great 2012!

BTW, I've already read "Delicate Freakn' Flower". I'm assuming-& it's totally understandable-that you might have confused it with the other two books in the series,

Hope you like my picks!
1. First Day - Keeping Promise Rock
2. Second Day - Mockingjay - you read the first two, and this one is sooooo good!
3. Third Day - Gone With the Wind
4. Goodbye, Rabbit! - The Name of the Rose
5. Welcome, Dragon! - Wicked Ties - this is a very HOT reading.
6. Poor Cat - Dark Lover
7. Pass the luck around - Divergent and Loose Ends
8. Spread the love - Slave to Sensationthis is the first book in a serie that I love - Psy Changelings.
9. Lantern Festival - there are many books that were new to me in your shelves - this caught my eyes:
The Iron Witch The Shadow of Your Smile The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers
Happy reading and Happy New Year!

We had a lot of books in common, so it was fun looking through your TBR. I hope a book or two really grabs your interest.
Welcome the New Year
1. First Day: I didn't see much fantasy on your shelves and no business books. Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings is the start to a great, older fantasy series. The characters seem like friends you just want to hang out with. On the business side, both these books are pretty interesting - Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office: 101 Unconscious Mistakes Women Make That Sabotage Their Careers by Lois P. Frankel and Play Like a Man, Win Like a Woman: What Men Know About Success that Women Need to Learn by Gail Evans
2. Second Day: Mystery and YA both seem to be genres you really like. Touch of Frost by Jennifer Estep starts an interesting YA series. On the mystery side I've got two options: light mystery with a touch of paranormal and some eccentric characters - Truly, Madly by Heather Webber or a bit more heavy set slightly in the future with one of the best heroes (Roarke) and a very long run - Naked in Death by J.D. Robb
3. Third Day: I haven't read many of your longer books, but I did really like Divine By Mistake by P.C. Cast

During the New Year
4. Goodbye, Rabbit!: You really need to check out Ilona Andrews. She's got two great series you can jump in with. On the Edge starts her PNR series based in the edge of land between the Broken (normal) and the Weird (magical). She also has the extremely popular Kate Daniels series, starting with Magic Bites. I thought this series really picked up starting with book 3.
5. Welcome, Dragon!: A great start to a great series - Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I love both Kyrian and Amanda. Or you can read about one of Santa's hot sons who is a baker with Sweet Inspiration by Penny Watson.
6. Poor Cat: Well, since I'm in the middle of book 8 in this series and still loving it, you should definitely put book 1 higher up your TBR - Tempting Danger by Eileen Wilks. Another of my favorites I see on your TBR - Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones.
7. Pass the Luck Around: Hands down the best book that was recommended to me last year was Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison. I was afraid to start because of all the hype, but I loved it from start to finish.

Celebrate The New Year (Buddy Reads)
8. Spread The Love: I'm looking forward to reading In Too Deep by Jayne Ann Krentz. She is my all-time favorite author.
9. Lantern Festival: I would be interested in reading either of these - And One Last Thing ... by Molly Harper or Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella

I'll definitely be reading Whispers in the Dark this month. Great series - gotta love those Kelly brothers!
Several of the others look interesting too, but I'll have to see how my reading schedule works out for the month to see how many I can fit in.
As far as the buddy read goes, I've already read Beyond the Highland Mist (another great series), but I've heard so much about Surrender that I'd really like to read it with you!

Here are your picks...I hope that you find something that you want to read. Let me know if you want me to give you different picks.
Welcome the New Year
1. First Day -
Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill: I loved this incredibly creepy ghost story.
The Strain by Guillermo del Toro: A new trilogy on vampires that was different and entertaining.
2. Second Day -
Noble Destiny by Katie MacAlister: You have read a lot by this author and gave the first book in this series 5 stars.
Fragile by Shiloh Walker
3. Third Day -
The Third Heiress by Brenda Joyce: This was a great read! One of my favorites!

During the New Year
4. Goodbye, Rabbit -
The Secret by Julie Garwood: I love this book! I have read it twice!
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon: A big book, but very worth it.
5. Welcome, Dragon -
Dark Lover by J.R. Ward
Hot in Here by Sophie Renwick
6. Poor Cat -
Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin
7. Pass the Luck -
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh
Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning
Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen

Celebrate the New Year
8. Spread the Love -
Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian - I plan on reading this this month.
9. Lantern Festival -
Somewhere I'll Find You by Lisa Kleypas

Welcome the New Year
1. First Day: This was difficult but I went with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
2. Second Day: Fantasy is your most read genre and I thought you would like The Host
3. Third Day: The Pillars of the Earth is a fantastic read

During the New Year
4. Goodbye, Rabbit: Macbeth(Scotland)
5. Welcome, Dragon: Covet looks pretty hot
6. Poor Cat: Good Omens is A book about Angels, Demons, Armageddon, An 11 year old Anti-Christ and the end of the world. It's hilarious

Celebrate The New Year

9. Lantern Festival: Playing With Fire I enjoy reading Katie MacAlisters books

I'll definitely be reading Whispers in the Dark this month. Great series - gotta love those Kelly brothers!

Happy Reading!

1) First day: The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov - this is a great, great book, but it's absolutely the most "out of comfort zone" reading I've ever had
2) Second day: Lola and the boy next door by Stephanie Perkins - you've given 5 stars to her other book so this will be a great book for you
3) Third day: The magic mountain by Thomas Mann - what more can I say?
4) Goodbye, Rabbit!: The kite runner by Khaled Hosseini - this was a very emotional read
5) Welcome, Dragon!: The spymaster's lady by Joanna Bourne - the cover's hot, the book and the hole series are great!
6) Poor Cat: Forget you by Jennifer Echols - it's YA, but this one was really beautifully written
7) Past the Luck around: Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase - I started reading romance 'cause a friend recommended me this book. It's a classic, I know, but you just have to read it
8) Spread the Love: Unclaimed and Unraveled by Courtney Milan - I've read the first one and I think she really writes well
9) Lantern Ferstival: Daughter of smoke and bone by Laini Taylor - I'm intrigued...
I've tried to mix different types. Hope you'll find something you like!
Ciao,
Ana

It was hard to choose for you. I've read so little of what is on your shelves. I hope I picked some good ones, if not, let me know and I'll try again :)
Welcome the New Year
1. First Day: I noticed you do like historical Regency romances, but you don't have any western romances on there. I don't typically read westerns either, but I read this one this year and loved it! Texas Destiny by Lorraine Heat
2. Second Day: For this one, I chose Tempting by Susan Mallery since you've read the rest of the series and seemed to like it. I have the first one downloaded and up to read soon.
3. Third Day: I have 2 suggestions for this one -Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon. I loved Outlander, but couldn't bring myself to read the rest of the series cause I just couldn't imagine Claire and Jamie not together. So I understand if you won't pick this one LOL My next suggestion is Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. You can't get much longer than over 1000 pages ;)
During the New Year
4. Goodbye, Rabbit!: Heaven, Texas by Susan Elizabeth Phillips is self explanatory. This is a series I want to read.
5. Welcome, Dragon!: I have a couple of suggestions for this one too. You didn't have a lot of smokin' hot men on the covers of your TBR list, so I improvised - Witch Fire by Anya Bast. While I haven't read this one in the series, I have read 2 others in it and they were hot! My other choice is Three Days to Dead by Kelly Medig because if I played for the other team, I'd think the chick on the cover is hot LOL I added that book to my TBR list.
6. Poor Cat: Nightkeepers by Jessica Andersen. I read Lord of the Wolfyn by her just this week and liked it a lot. It was my first by her.
7. Pass the Luck Around: The Nanny Diaries by Emma McLaughlin was rec'd to me just yesterday by one of my friends. And Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia was rec'd to me by my daughter and I loved it. I bought the 3rd in that series for Christmas and am looking forward to it.
Celebrate The New Year (Buddy Reads)
8. Spread The Love: Naked in Death by JD Robb. I've read this one and can not wait to read the rest of the series! Roarke is Irish and I can just imagine the accent when he talks to Eve YUM!
9. Lantern Festival: A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. I actually recieved this one as a Christmas gift last week and would love to do a buddy read for it!

glad you can find something on the list you might like; so sorry about the wrong listing-by the time I got to that category I was stressing out so just typed in the title and picked the worng one. I had no idea it was that hard to pick so many books for someone that has a TBR shelf that you have so much in common with lol.I think I'm going to start that series soon so maybe we'll be reading it at the same time :)

Here are your picks, I hope you will find something you like. Tell me if I have missed completely and you want me to do a re-pick. :)
Welcome the New Year: First Day (book that is out of their comfort zone)
Daughter of the Blood by Anne Bishop. It's a dark fantasy with a very good romance story. Be warned that if you like it you will have to read two more books in trilogy to find out the whole story. :)
Welcome the New Year: Second Day: (book from their favorite authors/genre or a book from one of their well-rated on-going series)
I see that you love historical romances and that you have read a lot of books from Stephanie Laurens and gave them a high rating. You could read the latest book in Cynsters series Viscount Breckenridge to the Rescue.
Welcome the New Year: Third Day: (a long book from their TBR)
Tess of the D'Urbervilles has 592 pages, but it's worth it. Very nice classical historical romance.
During the New Year: Goodbye, Rabbit!: (book that is set in a different country than your pickee is from)
I could not find on your profile info from which country are you from. So I picked Memoirs of a Geisha, I think there are small chances you are from Japan and tell me if I am wrong and I will change the book. This is a wonderful book and very interesting to read, you learn a lot about their culture.
During the New Year: Welcome, Dragon!: (book with a HOT cover or an all-round yummy hot book)
I spoted The Ghost Of Goodacre Hall on your tbr list and I think cover is hot enough. :)
During the New Year: Poor Cat: (book from their TBR that has been neglected or a book that you think should be pushed up)
Garden Spells. It's similar with style and concept to movie 'Practical magic' if you have seen it.
During the New Year: Pass the Luck Around: (a book you loved that was recommended to you)
The Wedding Bargain It has some very original ideas. I liked battle of wits between main characters.
Celebrate The New Year (Buddy Reads): Spread The Love: (new books/series you are psyched to read in the New Year)
How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire. I plan to read this book in January and I like the description and reviews very much.
Celebrate The New Year (Buddy Reads): Lantern Festival: (books from your pickee's TBR that caught your eye)
In Bed with a Highlander. I plan to read this for a FAC challenge and I spotted it on your TBR list.

9. Lantern Festival:Between the Sea and Sky

I'm reading Whispers in the Dark as soon as it's released (the 7th, I think) for a discussion group, so anytime before that or after about the 10th or so would work for me. I'll let you decide since library availability can be iffy sometimes.

2. Second Day..."
Lauren, Thank you for the great recs. Lucky me, Trace of Fever is on its way from the Library and I'm going to tackle Burn the Night, so I can finish off that series. Then depending on where I am in the month, I might try some of the others you recommended.
Have a great new year!

1. First Day: (Help them welcome the New Year with a challenge!) Challenge your pickee by recommending a book that is out of their comfort zone.
Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews or Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1)by Patricia Briggs or Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb
2. Second Day: (Daughters go back to their birth homes) Choose a book from their favorite authors/genre or a book from one of their well-rated on-going series
(You seem to really like Carol Lynne and the Cattle Valley series) Hawk's Landing (Cattle Valley, #23)
by Carol Lynne ;Shooting Star (Cattle Valley, #24) by Carol Lynne ; Confessions (Cattle Valley, #25)
by Carol Lynne
3. Third Day: (People will stay at home today) Pick a long book from their TBR that will occupy them on this day.
Invincible (Chronicles of Nick, #2) Kenyon, Sherrilyn 420 pp or The Lovely Bones Sebold, Alice 384 pp
During the New Year
4. Goodbye, Rabbit!: (Rabbits enjoy learning about other culture) . Recommend a book that is set in a different country than your pickee is from.
Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon

Celebrate The New Year (Buddy Reads)
8. Spread The Love: Share the new books/series you are psyched to read in the New Year that your pickee hasn't read yet.
Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth
9. Lantern Festival: (Matchmakings happen today) Pick the books from your pickee's TBR that caught your eye.
(You really don't have much in your TBR so this was kind of a hard decision for me.)
Some Like It Rough Pearce, Kate * (looks really naughty but it is not available at my library so I won't be able to read it with you.)
Note: The buddy read recommendations are NOT optional. If you cannot do the buddy read, you must still recommend a book for each category; just let the person for whom you are picking know that you won't be able to do the read with them.

I had fun going through your bookshelves! Our tastes are different enough to make it a challenge, but with enough similarity to give me some ideas to work with.
Welcome the New Year
1. First Day: I didn't see much romantic suspense, and almost no historical romance on your Read list, so a couple of good choices in those categories are The Darkest Hour and Then Came You. Or, I didn't see any m/m on your shelves, so if you want to really push the comfort zone your could try Caught Running.
2. Second Day: The Well of Lost Plots or Lover Awakened. You've given 5 stars to the first two books in each of these series, so maybe it's time to move on to book 3.
3. Third Day: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Desire Unchained are among the longest books on your TBR, and you've rated previous books in both series highly.
During the New Year
4. Goodbye, Rabbit!: Faefever (set in Ireland) or Love Bites (set in Canada). Again, these are both books in series that you've already started and rated highly.
5. Welcome, Dragon!:

Or

6. Poor Cat: Kiss of Midnight, A Hunger Like No Other, or The Mane Event. All three of these have been on your bookshelves for over a year, and definitely deserve to be moved to top of the pile.
7. Pass the Luck Around: How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf was a PFIM recommendation for me a few months ago, and it was very fun. And I read Out Of Her League for a discussion group. It's the start of an amazing series.
Celebrate The New Year (Buddy Reads)
8. Spread The Love: Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs or The Mercenary. Both of these are on your TBR, and are books I hope to get to sometime soon.
9. Lantern Festival: A friend just mentioned This Time Together: Laughter and Reflections to me a couple of days ago, so when I saw it on your TBR I thought it might make a good buddy read.
I hope you find something you like, if not let me know and I'll be happy to try again!

Welcome the New Year
1.Out comfort zone : Witch Eyes (GLBT) or You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up: A Love Story .
2.Favorite : Rex Rising YA , Dash & Lily's Book of Dares Chick-lit .

During the New Year

9.Caught my eye : Can You Keep a Secret? .

Hope you like it , Happy reading :)
Regina,
thank you for these great picks! I'll probably read two or more since I've been planning on reading some for awhile now. I'll definitely start with Divergent and then Dark Lover, and if I manage I'll read Mockingjay also. ^^
Marissa,
my picks will be up tomorrow morning. It's eleven here in Slovenia and I just came home from my afternoon work-shift so my bad awaits for me. (: Looking forward to choosing books to you. ^^

8. Spread The Love: Share the new books/series you are psyched to read in the New Year that your pickee hasn't read yet.

9. Lantern Festival: (Matchmakings happen today) Pick the books from your pickee's TBR that caught your eye.
How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper looks like a cute read that both of us have on our tbr lists

This one is really different: Confessions of Zeno by Italo Svevo.

Thanx :)

Welcome to the New Year
First Day: The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
Evil water horses are probably out of most people's comfort zones and there have been mixed reviews of this, but I adored it and it's probably my favourite book of the year.
Second Day: Stolen by Kelley Armstrong
Checking out your shelves I noticed you really enjoyed Waking the Witch and Spellbound but were on the fence about Bitten. Stolen still has Elena as a narrator but you might like seeing Savannah's first appearance.
Third Day: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
I haven't read this personally but I've heard good things and it is longest book on your TBR if you're looking to start 2012 with a long read.

During the New Year
Goodbye, Rabbit: Soulless by Gail Carriger
Yay for a London setting! Plus this is a really fun steampunk read that I loved. The lead character actually beats a vampire up with a parasol at one point - it's hilarious :)
Welcome, Dragon!: Beyond the Highland Mist by Karen Marie Moning
You seem to have really enjoyed the Fever series so I'm going totally by cover here and recommending one with a hot guy.
Poor Cat: Frostbite by Richelle Mead
In your Vampire Academy review you mentioned wanting to read the sequel so I thought I'd recommend it here in case you're still interested.
Pass the Luck Around: Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward
I was recommended this by Elke back in September and have now read the first 8 books. I adored all of them, but this is my favourite book of the series.

Celebrate the New Year
I'm up for a buddy read of any or all of the below books - just let me know if you're interested :)
Spread the Love: The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan OR The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
I'm hoping to read both of these series early next year as both sound awesome. I've even met Sarah Rees Brennan who is lovely so I really need to get reading.
Lantern Festival: Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
I've had this out of the library for a while now so I was thrilled to stumble across it on your TBR.

It was fun looking through your lists! Here are my picks for you:
1. First Day
You like fantasy, but this book is a bit more on the funny side, so I think a bit out of your comfort zone: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.
2. Second Day
Touch the Dark by Karen Chance. This is a great urban fantasy series.
3. Third Day
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I have not read this book yet, but my daughter just finished it and gave it high remarks!
4. Goodbye, Rabbit!
You Slay Me by Katie MacAlister. This is another funny series by one of my favorite authors. This one takes place in France.
5. Welcome, Dragon!
Love in the Time of Dragons by Katie MacAlister. This book is good and has a hot cover!
6. Poor Cat
The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter. This book has been on your TBR pile the longest and I think you'll enjoy the book.
7. Pass the Luck Around
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This was recommended to me a few months ago and I really liked the book. I do admit it was hard to me to get into first, but once I did I was glad I read it.
8. Spread The Love
The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks. I see this is on both of our TBR lists, and my youngest daughter read it last month and recommended it. So, if you are up to reading this one in January, let me know and I'll do the buddy read with you.
9. Lantern Festival
Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie. This book caught my eye because I noticed it was on your TBR list and I've been wanting to read it for a while. So again, let me know if you want to do a buddy read with this book.
Sue-

We had a lot of books in common, so it was fun looking through your TBR. I hope a book or two really grabs your interest.

Thank you Dragana for my picks! That was so quick. What I usually do for this challenge is pick one from each grouping. So this is what I've chosen to read.
Welcome the New Year Daughter of the Blood This looks really interesting and definitely out of my comfort zone. But fun!
During the New YearThe Wedding BargainI love Victoria Alexander books and this looks really good.
Celebrate the New YearHow to Marry a Millionaire VampireI would love to do this as a buddy read this month. I have never read this author and it would fit in with another challenge I'm doing.

Thank you for your picks Kimberly! I was going to try to put off reading Hidden Summit, but you have given me the perfect excuse to read it sooner! If I can fit more in I am going to try!

Just let me know when you want to start it. :-)

You have quite an impressive TBR shelf! It was fun to dive in and take a look at your books. Most of what I picked for you came from your TBR, but I did choose a couple that are new to you. If none of these appeal to you, I will be happy to try again!
1. First Day: A Game of Thrones is high fantasy at its best. Ready Player One is sci-fi/dystopia with a hero you will cheer for. I like to think of it as sci-fi with a heart.
2. Second Day: You can't go wrong with Destined for an Early Grave or Seduce Me at Sunrise
3. Third Day: Continue reading my all-time favorite series, Outlander, with book 2 Dragonfly in Amber; or, read my all-time favorite Anne Rice novel,
The Witching Hour
4. Goodbye, Rabbit!: I just read The Paris Wife about Ernest Hemingway's first marriage. I really loved it. The Other Boleyn Girl is set in the court of Henry VIII. The Bronze Horseman is a sweeping, epic novel set in Russia during World War II.
5. Welcome, Dragon!: There is no shortage of hot covers on your TBR! Cops and Cowboys, Always or Turn it On
6. Poor Cat: Three really good books that have been on your shelves awhile are The Shining, The Time Traveler's Wife and Something Borrowed
7. Pass the Luck Around:The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Pillars of the Earth or Garden Spells
Celebrate The New Year (Buddy Reads)
8. Spread The Love: I am excited to read The Tea Rose since I've had it for ages.

Welcome to the New Year
1. First Day: Since you read so many genres this one was kind of hard, but I don't know many people that would put Story of the Eye by Georges Bataille in their comfort zone, or if that doesn't work for you you can try Obsession by John Douglas
2. Second Day: You have a lot of series going so I decided to pick one that also happens to be a most read author (mostly by default since the series is so long). So I picked One Silent Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon.
3. Third Day: I didn't pick your longest book, but Feed by Mira Grant was your second & seemed like a good book to spend a day with.
During the New Year
4. Goodbye, Rabbit!:
The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton - One of my favourites that I've bought so far, plus it's not only set in one different country, but two!
The Last Day of a Condemned Man by Victor Hugo - If you're looking for a short read, written by one of my favourite classic novelists.
5. Welcome, Dragon!: Tender Rebel by Johanna Lindsey has a "hot" cover & it is pretty delish.
6. Poor Cat: I had to choose Sex Lives of the Popes by Nigel Cawthorne because 1) its been sitting on that shelf for quite a while, & 2) it just sounds crazy interesting.
7. Pass the Luck Around: Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. A non-goodreads friend recommended this to me & I was so glad she did, very good read.
Celebrate the New Year
Not sure I'll be able to do the buddy read with you but I'll definitely try
8. Spread the Love: I can't wait to read The Hunger Games series, I've been putting it off for a couple months now because of different challenges but it finally fits into the read the season challenge, just not sure I'll get to it this month because of the read the month challenge.
9. Lantern Festival: Besides The Sex Lives of the Popes, The Stolen Child by Kieth Donohue happened to catch my eye.
