M from Warmer
March by Aussie/American author Geraldine Brooks, who won the Pulitzer Prize with this one.

March is the father of the March family of Little Women fame. He went off as a chaplain in the Civil War, but not much else was known about him while he was away.

Brooks has given him a wonderful back story, which includes the family's friendship with Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, who were both friends of Alcott's father, upon whom Alcott based the March family and whom Brooks has used in her novel.
