To crawl back out, I change up my routine. I go for a walk or a bike ride. I watch a PBS detective series. I talk to a friend. I draw. I don't write every day either (I can hear the shock and horror already!) :-)(less)

I might overhear an interesting anecdote standing in line at a coffee shop. Or read an article in the NYTImes or see a matrimonial ad in the Times of India. Or my muse could be the woman I just met at the grocery store who has an interesting past... See Full Answer

I have my mother to thank for my first novel. When I was fifteen, my mother and I went shopping for school clothes. We’d been living in the States—in the Midwest—for six years by then, but she still wore saris. As we passed the dresses, she plucke... See Full Answer

I loved this novel! First of all, it was completely unpredictable and original; it's neither a whodunnit, nor a thriller. Secondly, it was laugh-out-loud in places; Braithwaite is funny--something I hadn't expected from this novel. Thirdly, it was su ...more

I don't know how Anne Tyler does it time and again--creating quirky characters that remind us of people we've met, people we wish we'd met, even people within our own families. I think I've read all but two of Tyler's novels. I laugh out loud, feel h ...more
