Zara's Retreat | 2365 comments THE LISTOPIA CHALLENGE
Duration: January 1st 2015 - December 31st 2015

It's back! After popular demand, the Listopia challenge is returning for another year! Feel free to carry on your goal from 2014, or to update with new goals and new lists. :)

Goodreads features a number of user created lists which can be found here: Listopia.

Besides the featured and popular lists on the main page you can see lists your friends have voted on as well as search for lists with topics that interest you.

The number of lists you choose and the number of books you read from each is entirely up to you. One person might choose to read the Top 100 books from one list, another person may choose to read the Top 5 books from 10 lists. You decide and mix it up any way you like.

Rules :
Choose your list (or multiple lists!) and the number of books you plan to read from each.
State your goals in your first post (posting a link to your lists is recommended*).
Any format of book, cross challenging etc. are all fine.
You can keep track in your Member's Corner or update here.
When you finish off a list, post your completed list here so we can all congratulate you!

* NOTE: Posting a link is not necessary, but it does help others find the list you are referring too if they want to check it out as well! If you do want to post a link, here are the instructions.
1. Find your list and copy the URL (which can be found at the top of your browser, in the box with the website address)
2. When posting your comment in the comment box, the code you use to add a link is this: (backspace all the *) <*a href="">Name of list here<*/a*>.
3. Paste the URL of your list between the two " in the first tag.

For example this (without the *): <*a href="https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8... Science Fiction Books<*/a> turns into this: Best Science Fiction Books

Candiss (tantara) | 996 comments I'll be working from four lists. I've been working on the first list for several years off-Goodreads and included it last year for this same challenge. The second list was chosen because I'm committed to reading diversity, and this list helps provide some good ideas. The third list just helps me get in a few books I always push aside for longer works. The fourth list helps me pretend I'm not hopelessly behind with new releases...at least for a few recent books.

These books are split about 40% books I own + 40% library books + 20% public domain e-book classics. I won't be buying any new books for challenges this year.

message 13: by Karina (last edited Oct 09, 2015 03:31PM) (new)

Karina (karinargh) | 807 comments Making it easy for myself this year with two lists with a lot of TBR overlap.

Speculative Fiction that passes the Bechdel test
Finished, 10/10

1. Fire and Hemlock
2. The Sparrow
3. Howl's Moving CastleHowl's Moving Castle
4. City of Stairs
5. Uprooted
6. Seveneves
7. Updraft
8. Three Parts Dead
9. The Mirror Empire
10. The Shepherd's Crown

...I knew this Bechdel genre fic list was a non-challenging challenge, so I didn't really pay attention to it as the year went along. Now that I stopped to check my reading against it - early October - I found that I had to add a bunch of qualifying titles to the list myself, but I had very much reached the 10/10. I hesitated for a moment and thought it might not be in the spirit of the challenge to use books you added to the list yourself - but considering the nature of this list, that's silly, and everything is fine.

Radiolab suggested readings

1. A Madman Dreams of Turing Machines
2. Man's Search for Meaning
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
10.

Tytti | 58 comments I think I am going to try reading 10 books (at first) in total from these lists:

Two "100 books you should read" lists by Finnish newspapers
Keskisuomalaisen 100 kirjaa
IS:n sata parasta
Best Finnish books from the 2000s as listed by one newspaper
HS:n sata parasta
And 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die

I think there are two books that are on all three Finnish lists and one that is in the first two and 1001. I think two of those are my priority, maybe...

1. Purge
2. The Unknown Soldier
Others
3. Alice in Wonderland
4. Winnie-the-Pooh
5. The Great Gatsby
6. Animal Farm
7. Rebecca
8. To Kill a Mockingbird
9. Breakfast at Tiffany's
10. Wuthering Heights

But I might read more or I might not read these books. (And maybe I should add the Nobel winners list, too..) But we shall see.

Ha! I think it's worked the other way around, too.

I updated my post with my two lists for 2015. I found a lot of clever and deliciously narrowly themed ones that'll have to wait another year, though...!
