Bonnie A couple questions:
Where do we post our list?
May we read them out of order?

Thanks! It was fun doing research for my list and seeing what the decade lists looked like.

I just finished reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and really loved it. I had great difficulty putting it down. It was a very powerful piece of writing. Lisa See has become another of my favourite authors now. I hope you enjoy it when you get to read it.

Winter's Tale --I didn't see the movie but this book is too dense to make into a 2 hour movie. 4. Time of Wonder 5. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory--Never judge a book by its movies.
6. Phantom 7. 84 Charing House Road read this and Charlie both in one day. Lovely 8. On a Winter's Night a traveler--Recommended by an English Professor--weird 9.The Book Thief--Wonderful story--highly recommend 10. Hi Linda.
I read 'Sold' awhile ago myself and its impact hasn't left me yet. It was an easy read in that it was written in a style which would allow anyone to read it quickly. It wasn't an easy read in that the subject matter was absolutely horrific.

As for "Never judge a book by its movies" I couldn't agree more. I read the "Love Comes Softly" series and then watched some of the movies done up of the books. I found the movies were so far removed from the books that I had to quickly re-read the books to get the movie images out of my head. The movies really destroyed the story that the books were trying to get across.

Linda "The Book Lady" Warner | 98 comments Zara, I understand what you mean about Sold. It has a powerful story.
The new series on Hallmark "When Calls the Heart is so different from book. They changed the mountie's name and where she went to. If bears no resemblence to the book series. I too had to reread my book. I owned the series I liked it so well. I am trying to teach my grandson to read the books before he sees a movie, because sometimes you see the movie and then the book's images are so different it destroys the reading.

Merc (oswinssouffle) | 20 comments I am over a thousand pages into this challange and I have hated both books I have read. I have a section where I answer if I liked the book or not and for American Psycho I wrote "Hated every page" and for American Gods I wrote "hated almost every page".

I may go on a break from books with "American" in the title.

I can understand your reasoning Eddie. I've had a bad run myself with books. Very few have been at all interesting. It's been very hit and miss although it's probably more miss than hit.

Robin P I am really tempted by this challenge even though I am in the 3 years to read category. I didn't realize I could sort by year published but now I've looked at my To Read and Owned But Not Yet Read and I have most of the years covered. It's helpful that Sharon and Linda posted above most of the years I need (I suppose I could have guessed just from their names - Sharon and Linda were hugely popular names in the 1950s!) And Linda, I hope you aren't reading Night & Andersonville back to back, you will need antidepressants!

1969 - The lives she left behind - James Long..."

I'm confused, the years on this one don't seem to correspond to the books? For instance On Chesil Beach was written just a few years ago and Wives and Daughters is from the 19th century (although maybe an edition was published in 1974, that should count)

Mona Lisa | 6 comments Hallo from Sweden.

My name is Mona Lisa and I have been informed about this group from the Han. Thank you, Han.
I love, love .. did I say that I love .. lol .. reading books and I look forward to meeting others with the same interest. I've loved literature for as long as I remember. Read a lot and everything is possible but avoid books where children are suffering.
I am married and a mother of three children.
Otherwise, I work as a nurse specialist at Children's Oncology Unit.
I look forward to getting to know the rest of you.

I really enjoyed this book. I had no idea about foot binding and the arranged marriages of China. This gives you some insight into why all those baby girls are given up in China. I am now looking for other books on this subject and I am also curious about the women who arranged the marriages. How did that profession come to be?

Candy Tiley I would like to participate in this. Now that I am 60 and not working I am reading a lot so I can do this! One question - do the books have to be published in the same year or is it just a book for each year and they can be from any decade?

The book needs to have been published in the same year. So for example, you might want to read a book for 1964 so the book you choose has to have been published in 1964. Welcome to the challenge Candy.

message 99: by Robin P (new)

Robin P It is easy to find books published by year on either Goodreads or Wikipedia. If you have books you already own and have been meaning to read, you can enter them on Goodreads, as to-read or some other category and sort by publication date.
