Hi Cass! Diamond Age is one of my top-ten favorite books ever, although it's been years since I last read it. Off the top of my head I recall at least three strong women in critical roles in the book, there may have been a couple others too. It's a great read if you can enjoy science fiction, in this case it's all about nano technology and artificial intelligence and, well, humans.
Best of luck finding a great next book! ...more "

This series is sometimes marketed as (f/f) romance, but is more general historical fantasy focused on interesting female characters.

See also Uprooted by the same author, but this one has a bigger range of female characters (Uprooted focuses on a single heroine and has a smaller cast overall).

A sci-fi suggestion; this has a roughly gender-equal mix of POV characters, but the female cast is large, diverse and interesting.
