CHOUA XIONG I just want to say that I am so grateful to you all for helping me find these books! I hope to expand more, and hope that goodreads extends to more than 100 votes per person, which is why I haven’t been able to add any new books to the list. 😢. But thank you again for your help and dedication.

message 2: by Anonymous A (new)

Anonymous A If anyone has books they want to add to the list, I still have lots of votes left :)

message 3: by Shutomei (last edited May 14, 2020 10:40AM) (new)

Shutomei Thank you for creating this list. Is there any way to classify by date that books are added onto this list?

I don't believe there is a way to do that but I've asked your question in the Goodreads help section.

message 5: by Choua (new)

Choua Xiong I’ve been looking for a way to do that, but no luck.

RC Great idea adding the newest books in the comments, it makes it so much easier to navigate the list! I didn't add these but in the spirit of helping people I think the 2 most recent are

He's Come Undone: A Romance Anthology by a few authors
The Secret Brokers by Alexandrea Weis

However, I was reading through The Secret Brokers and it seems like the heroine is blonde with blue eyes and not Asian so I'm not sure why this was added. Is there a way to remove books if you don't think they apply?

message 12: by romanza888 (last edited May 21, 2020 10:26AM) (new)

message 21: by Christyn (new)

Christyn Hey all, since I can't add books by vote (I'm maxed) I'll just add them to the comments.

The following are series (mystery, so they do have some romance - it's just not primarily romance) books, I'm only putting the first books in the series since you can go from there to find the rest:

China Trade by S.J. Rozan [Lydia Chin/Bill Smith Series]
Flower Net by Lisa See [Red Princess Series]
Murder on Bamboo Lane by Naomi Hirahara [Ellie Rush Series]
Raining Men and Corpses by Anne R. Tan [ Raina Sun Series]
Just Shoot Me Dead by Anne R. Tan [Lucy Fong series]
Kimono Suicide by Kay Hadashi [June Kato series]
Away: Get Ready for the Future [Melanie Kato series]
Skin Deep by Sung J. Woo [Upcoming release]

I'll add more as I find/remember them!

message 22: by Christyn (new)

message 23: by Shutomei (last edited May 26, 2020 09:04AM) (new)

Shutomei Just a note -- I think some authors realize that this is a hot market. Have you noticed some authors are pretty lazy? They will create an Asian character, but the parent(s) have disappeared or died, so that explains why outside of looking Asian, they have no cultural ties? Or people are just half, with an missing parent, with nothing cultural that can tie them to us, outside of looking Asian with green/blue eys?? Also, I wish some of these writers would stop using "slanty eyes" as a descriptor. That's just stupid and has been used as a derogatory way to refer to our folks.

message 24: by Choua (new)

Choua Xiong I agree with you. It seems the authors who are not Asian have a hard time connecting with the Asian character. So some of them would only make them half Asian, thinking it would make them more acceptable to the non Asian readers. But in the end, they don’t believe that the characters culture matters; only the love story matter. I do think that authors are doing a bit better now, not to mention lots of Asian American writers realize this and are coming to the rescue.

message 25: by Shutomei (last edited May 27, 2020 08:57AM) (new)

Shutomei Okay...here are more from Christlyn and Ksll. Also, I have added Christlyn's from above.

message 26: by Christyn (new)

Christyn @Shutomei & @Choua

Agreed! Honestly, in the beginning I was so excited to read or even find a book that even had an Asian character. Now as the market and authors grow and other authors enter the field hopefully we'll see more quality. There are some authors that do a good job, and some that don't. Hopefully we'll see more quality works soon!

Shutomei In reading Burning Time (April Woo, #1) by Leslie Glass , the author goes through a diatribe of Asians smelling like garlic, Asian men having two body types - paunchy or wiry - with references to her short Asian boyfriend. The female protagonist hates the Asian body type of no chest or ass. And, of course, she hates her eyes. I have read many authors describe their characters like this, as if Asians have this inherent desire to look western.

In any case, whatever the story is, I have no interest in a self-hating Asian female.

RC Ok I added Road Trip Baby by Fiona Marsden

And it looks like someone else added
Trouble
Kyris
Cold Temptation

(Mentioned the 3 above to try to keep up to date with the books on the list)

Thanks to everyone adding so often! It's awesome to have so many books with representation :)

Thank you everyone for the new books!

@Shutomei, that's so disappointing to hear, thank you for the heads up!

Shutomei I would also be interested in hearing what you all think about the books you read, because some of these books aren't so good, while some are really good! For instance, I really liked Nicole French's series based around half-Korean lawyer-turned designer Jane Lefferts.

The Hate Vow
The Kiss Plot
The Love Trap

I think she wrote a book with an assembly of really interesting characters, a pretty credible story line and nailed the culture.

romanza888 Thank you RC, Christyn, and Shutomei.

Shutomei, thank you for your review on the book. I haven't read the ones you recommended but will be sure to check them out.

I really liked R.K. Lilley's series Bad Things, Rock Bottom, and Lovely Trigger. The heroine is part Asian (I think Japanese) and I liked the storyline and how it was written.

I also recommend Leia Stone's paranormal romance series Magic Bite, Magic Sight, and Magic Touch. I really enjoyed read all 3 books as it had the right amount of drama, romance, and comedy to carry it through.

These books were added:

The Cold Palace by Melissa Addey
The Headmaster's Wager by Vincent Lam
A Map of Paradise by Linda Ching Sledge
Haven of Smoke and Shadows by Ginger Li (hasn't been released yet)
Shadow Wolf by Aimee Easterling
Fox Blood by Aimee Easterling
