30.8 Spirit of the Season.....

I rolled 1 & 2.
"Asia" is found in both titles/subtitles.

1. A Favorite Author:

She Got Up Off the Couch: And Other Heroic Acts from Mooreland, Indiana by Haven Kimmel
5 stars

Ms. Kimmel's two memoirs are the funniest books I've ever read. They are also surprisingly touching and thought-provoking.

2. A Favorite Genre: Work Memoirs

Appointment at the Ends of the World: Memoirs of a Wildlife Veterinarian by William B. Karesh
3 stars

This guy has the best job ever! Although his writing tends to be a bit dry, he has the best intentions.

15.1. Time After Time
For part A, I read A Reliable Wife, set in 1907. My RL book group is discussing it tomorrow night, and it will be interesting to see what people thought of it. I thought it was so-so.
For part B, I read Mockingjay. I devoured this when it was released, and was a little disappointed. After reading the discussion thread in the fall challenge, I decided I really needed to re-read it, a little more slowly and thoughtfully. I'm glad I did - I liked it more and got a lot more out of it this time.

Beth F | 669 comments 25.3 - 2010 reflections

1 - Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas (Goodreads author)

All of my favorite memories from 2010 involve my little girl. She was born towards the end of 2009 so 2010 was an eventful year of bonding, learning and falling hopelessly in love.

The main character in this book is in the predicament of caring and providing for her younger sister’s infant son because the sister is unwilling and unable to care for him. She was not overly thrilled at the prospect at first but as the book progressed she and the baby developed a strong bond that I, as a new mother, found myself easily relating to. Peppered throughout were poignant descriptions of sleep deprivation as well as the intense parent/child bond that comes from interacting daily with a new baby. And even though the baby she was caring for was biologically her nephew, it was evident very early on that she had become the proverbial mama bear and thought of him as her own child. There were many descriptions that deeply resonated with me and I found myself smiling throughout and thinking, “oh yeah, I am so there.” :)

2 - Tempting the Beast by Lora Leigh

Lora Leigh was a new-to-me author in 2010.
