Fall Challenge 2010 Completed Tasks (do NOT delete any posts in this thread)

10.1 - SHORTER DAYS
I read The Land Without Shadows by Abdourahman Waberi.
This was a book of short stories from Djibouti and the Horn of Africa. While each little vignette was beautifully, even poetically, written, the content was always dark or tinged with sadness. I can't say I was fully satisfied with it.
First posting for the Fall Challenge! So, this gives me a total of 10 points so far.

Oscar Wilde has an interesting mind. These tales are enchanting, yet each tale (except for one) had a dark twist to it. I quite enjoyed these.

For Task 10.6 (In the Pink), I read

For Task 20.4 (Plot Line Thickens), I read Savor the Moment by Nora Roberts. My favorite kinds of movies are those that are funny and happy and generally put me in a good mood. And that's what these books do (this series): while I read them, and afterwards, I tend to think that life is pretty good! Though, I have to admit, I really wish there had been an actual "Vows" in Greenwich back when I got married -- it would have made life a lot easier!!
This brings me to 80 points.

10.8 - WHAT A WAY TO MAKE A LIVING
I read Summer at Tiffany by Marjorie Hart.
It is about the author, Marjorie, and her best friend, Marty's summer in New York where they worked at Tiffany's. It was 1945 and the two Iowa girls decided to spend their summer working in New York. They got a job at Tiffany's and they were the first girls to work on the Tiffany's sales floor. They were pages. The story was really sweet and full of anecdotes like when Judy Garland came into the shop with her new husband, Vincente Minnelli during their honeymoon. It was also interesting, because World War II ended when Marjorie was in New York City, so she got to witness all the festivities in Times Square.

Michelle-Marie - It's fantastic live but there's also a great movie version starring Rupert Everett, Colin Firth and Judi Dench. Very funny!

Mischief by Amanda Quick
This was such a fun task and read! I like all sorts of movies, but if I'm picking something just for me on a rainy Sunday afternoon I'll probably choose a Jane Austen type costume drama, or a treasure/adventure film (like The Mummy series or Indiana Jones) or something that doesn't take itself too seriously (like Enchanted or Stardust). So the book I read was a historical romance that poked fun at gothic horror novels and involved treasure from a lost island called Zamar. Really silly and fun :)

My favorite movie scenario is in a classic romance when at the end of the movie the guy or girl leaves and just as the one left thinks it's over and how will I go on with my life, the partner comes back unexpectantly and says I Love you and they kiss and live happily ever after!
Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella shares the same ending.

5.2 - The Play Must Go On
Read a play (minimum 70 pages). Since this is a reading challenge, we would prefer that you read a play. However, if your only option is to see or listen to a play, theatre, radio, and audio productions must be at least 2 hours in length to count for this task. Listopia Help: Best Plays Ever, Best American Plays, Best British Plays, Best Non-American and Non-British Plays
OPTIONAL: What did you think of the play? Write a short review.
Galileo by Berthold Brecht
I loved the irony in the juxtaposition between the Church and science as heresy. I loved that Brecht rewrote the play during WWII in Germany. It was very different from the play by Goodwin that I saw last year emphasizing different times in Galileo’s life. I also loved the Goodwin play.
5.5 - Take Me Out to the Ball Game
The World Series takes place in October. Read a book about baseball OR a book with a baseball related word in the title (hit, run, out, safe, home, base, player, single, double, triple, play, ball, game, etc.). (EXAMPLES: The Boys of Summer, Home Safe: A Novel, Hit and Run, etc.)
Ball Don’t Lie by Matt de la Pena GOODREAD AUTHOR
5.9 - Comfort Read
The weather is turning colder. It's time to snuggle up with your hot beverage of choice and a good book. For this task, you should reread an old favorite, revisit a beloved author, or pick up your favorite genre. OPTIONAL: Tell why you consider this a comfort read.
