5.2 - The Play Must Go On
Read a play (minimum 70 pages). Since this is a reading challenge, we would prefer that you read a play. However, if your only option is to see or listen to a play..."
Please look at the Posting Guidelines. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3...
The entire task description, including examples, does not need be included in a completed task posts. It's preferable to just list the task number and name - add a very brief description if you feel that this is necessary.
The books actually read (as opposed to the examples listed in the task description) need to be either linked, or bolded, so that I can pick them out without hunting through all the examples, and they need to be set off by a blank space from the task descriptions included.
Thanks for helping us make this more manageable!

I saw this play on stage years ago and it was chilling then. Reading it brought out the same emotions.
Its absolutely chilling how people would denounce their friends and neighbours for revenge, personal gain or fear, in order to save themselves. The rigidity and superstitions of the times, especially Court Judges, was frightening.
Set in Salem during the witch hunts, this play chillingly brings out the hysteria of the times.

30.4 Mysteries and Animals
The Snake, the Crocodile and the Dog by Elizabeth Peters
This book satisfies part A of the challenge. A snake, crocodile and dog are part of the mystery, in a metaphorical way. The characters also have a pet cat that is part of the mystery adventures.
The Last Camel Died at Noon by Elizabeth Peters
This book satisfies part B of the challenge by having 'camel' in the title.

20.4 The plot thickens....
I love movies which introduce the viewer to a number of characters, then slowly reveal how they are all connected. For example, Babel and House of Sand and Fog (also, an awesome book). So, I read:
Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann 4 stars
*Goodreads Author
This wonderful book, which is centered around Philippe Petit's 1974 tightrope walk between the World Trade Centers, is narrated by at least ten different interesting characters from all walks of life. In each chapter, the reader learns a bit more about how their outwardly disparate lives are actually fundamentally intertwined by fate.

The weather is turning colder. It's time to snuggle up with your hot beverage of choice and a good book. For this task, you should reread an old favorite, revisit a beloved author, or pick up your favorite genre. OPTIONAL: Tell why you consider this a comfort read.
I read Home Cooking by Laurie Colwin

Any Laurie Colwin is a comfort read, but especially her essays on food, which mostly appreared in Gourmet Magazine and Food and WIne. I find all cook books comfort reads, but somehow LC's are the most soothing of all --

Rolled a 1 and a 4.
For 1 - Read a fantasy novel or a book featuring a mythical or supernatural creature... Read Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris and
for 4 - Read a highly rated book and tell whether or not you liked it... Read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins since I never got to it in the Summer challenge. Loved it and can't wait to fit in Catching Fire for one of the challenges.... I would rate it a 4.5 if that was an option.

PS forgot to mention that Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris featured vampires, werewolved and faeries to qualify for 1.

15.1 - NEW HORIZONS

Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants by Dav Pilkey.
I got it off the Comics shelf. Everything about this book is out of my comfort zone (genre, title, illustrations, content, etc.). Someone gave a bunch of these books in this series to my 7 y/o. I thought I'd take the opportunity to read one before he did. Let's just say I'm not impressed...

I read The Invention of Hugo Cabret .
It was shelved as a Graphic Novel. I have never read a graphic novel before, so it was out of my comfort zone. Very interesting way to "read" a story. It definitely has me interested in reading more graphic novels, though. Great story!
