Calling it done.

Although I didn't finish completely as I'm not going to be doing the reading a book out loud task.

For the most part, I think the books I read for the challenges were books I would have got around to reading anyway but there were some exceptions; Wonder, Smaller and Smaller Circles, Wasted for example.

Best reads from the challenge:

Hunger makes me a modern girl
Station Eleven
Chasing the Scream
Bird Box
Wasted

Didn't really enjoy:
Julie and Julia
Smaller and Smaller circles
Southern Bastards Vol 1

√ 1. Read a horror book
The Library at Mount Char I thought this was one of the worst books I've ever read...

√ 2. Read a nonfiction book about science.
The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2013 Good variety.

√ 3. Read a collection of essays.
Dios es redondo "Un libro para los fanáticos de las canchas y para los ateos descreídos que juran que nunca verán un partido de fútbol, pero viven deseosos de entender el delirio de los fieles." Essays about soccer, a little dated.

√4. Read a book out loud to someone else. Our California

√ 5. Read a middle grade novel.
Echo A harmonica with powers across time and place.

√ 6. Read a biography (not memoir or autobiography).
The Crusades of Cesar Chavez: A Biography Interesting warts and all bio.

√ 7. Read a dystopian or post-apocalyptic novel.
Brown Girl in the Ring Meh, set in a dystopian version of Toronto.

√ 8. Read a book originally published in the decade you were born. The Master and Margarita Great, written in Stalinist Soviet Union in the 30s, but not published until the 60s.

√ 9. Listen to an audiobook that has won an Audie Award.
The Boy in the Suitcase Had to stop after 4 hours: I thought this Scandanavian thriller was awful. So instead I listened to a better choice: Euphoria very loosely based on Margaret Mead and her love interests.

√ 10. Read a book over 500 pages long. A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James

√ 11. Read a book under 100 pages. The Happiness of Blond People: A Personal Meditation on the Dangers of Identity Interesting extended essay on migration (among other things), only 25 pages.

√ 12. Read a book by or about a person that identifies as transgender. George Couldn't really get into this because it was poorly written.

√ 13. Read a book that is set in the Middle East. An Unnecessary Woman Good one, setting is Beirut.

√ 14. Read a book that is by an author from Southeast Asia. Sightseeing short stories set in Thailand.

√ 15. Read a book of historical fiction set before 1900. The Architect's Apprentice Enjoyed this one a lot, set in Ottoman Empire.

√ 16. Read the first book in a series by a person of color. A Rage in Harlem A wild ride through Harlem in the 50s.

√ 17. Read a non-superhero comic that debuted in the last three years. Last of the Sandwalkers Insects as main characters including a robot, very cool.

√ 18. Read a book that was adapted into a movie, then watch the movie. Debate which is better. I thought the book was better.
Winter in the Blood

√ 19. Read a nonfiction book about feminism or dealing with feminist themes.
Bad Feminist Funny and thoughtful.

√ 20. Read a book about religion (fiction or nonfiction). The Forty Rules of Love Fictional treatment of sufism.

√ 21. Read a book about politics, in your country or another (fiction or nonfiction).
The Orphan Master's Son Very highly recommended, set in North Korea.

√ 22. Read a food memoir. Day of Honey: A Memoir of Food, Love, and War Really interesting, about food and the wars in Iraq and Lebanon.

√ 23. Read a play. Disgraced Recommended. It would probably be amazing to watch this performed.

√ 24. Read a book with a main character that has a mental illness.
Voluntary Madness: My Year Lost and Found in the Loony Bin Quick read and interesting perspective on mental health care in the US.
