really liked it

I read this (well, listened to the audiobook, to be precise) for the Book Riot Read Harder challenge to fill the book/movie category. I finished the book yesterday and watched the movie today. I generally hate films based on books if I watch them soon after reading the book, probably because the book is still so fresh on my mind, but this was an exception.

Memoirs are difficult to cinematize anyway, given the amount of introspection they generally contain, so the film and the book felt very different. The book felt very intimate, like listening to a close friend tell a story, while the movie felt more removed. It could have very well been a movie of a novel.

To treat the book more specifically, I thought it was lovely and inspiring. Strayed is reflective and vulnerable in her telling, and it made me want to read more by her, especially her "Dear Sugar" advice columns for the Rumpus.
