On Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices from a Medieval Village and its 96 pages, I'm going to defer to Kristen... I was looking at the other editions, hoping to find one with more pages, but the only other had 85, so that doesn't help you. I would be inclined to say that it has to be 100, because the next person will want to include a 92 page book, then an 87 page book, etc. Maybe that's just the mom in me that says firm boundaries are a must... :) Anyone else that wants to weigh in on this, feel free.

I don't think I will complete 5.25. One, I am much too old to remember book recommendations in high school and two I was in AP English and did not read any YA books. But, c'est la vie!

This one doesn't have to be YA.

When we made up this challenge, we forgot to include a section for the ever-important Banned Books Week, which is September 24th-October 2nd... So, we are adding a bonus section called "Banned Books". Below are several links to banned books. You will get 5 points for every book you read and discuss off of any of these lists. There is no limit. The book could have been read any time during the July-September challenge period, as long as you haven't claimed it in a different area of the challenge.

This book should not have won any award, much less the coveted Newbery. It may well be the most boring book EVER. That said, my 6 year old said she liked it, but then, it did take over a month to read it to her because she kept falling asleep after 5 minutes...

I thought this was an excellent book, and I definitely feel it deserves a place on the top WT reads list. I liked that Christopher wrote it in "letter-format" to the kidnapper from the victim, it had a very authentic feel.

This was a beautifully-written book set during two pivotal periods in America's history. Abilene was a very likable heroine. Jinx was quite plucky and his shenanigans made me laugh. I enjoyed it and recommend it highly. I think it's very deserving of the Newbery Medal.

There were moments where this book was wonderful and had me gathering tears, but equal moments where I was annoyed at the stupidity of teenagers in grief. I can see where for some those moments would also be considered heartbreaking, but it didn't complete it for me.

I've been meaning to read this for a long time, since it's often at the top of banned book lists. It was okay. I'm not sure I would've bothered to finish it if I wasn't going to get points for it. :-} I can see where parents get all riled up about the book since it has a lot of "bad" language and some mature themes that some parents are convinced their precious babies will never otherwise encounter.

This may have made a SLJ list, but it wasn't a starred review. All SLJ starred reviews say "starred review" at the beginning. Sorry. This doesn't fit that part of the challenge. It's on the 9th grade reading list at my daughter's school, so you could use it for that, or make it fit elsewhere? Let me know where you put it.
