I don't think I agree with a 5-star rating for this book (I gave it 4-stars) but I did enjoy it. There were a lot of interesting characters and I thought the concept was pretty interesting. Imagine hearing everyone else's thoughts all of the time. I think I would go nuts. I'm starting the second book of the series tonight.

1.20 WT Top Novel List
Genre: Historical Fiction
This book definitely should be on the list. I saw the movie and my friend (who is a teacher) recommended that I read the book. It really was amazing and so sad.

4.10 Character goes on vacation
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Cameron doesn't necessarily go on a "vacation" but he goes on a journey/adventure around the country to find the doctor who can save him from mad cow disease.

Karis (YA Litwit) wrote: "I think that's fine. An FYI for future challenges, Ellen Hopkins writes her books in verse. They are VERY good and well over 100 pages."Oh great, thanks for the suggestion! Here's my next one. It's set in a dystopian world, so it's not precisely school as we know it, but the entire book focuses on her testing well and graduating into the Dauntless sect. If that's not okay let me know--I'm sorry for choosing complicated ones.

You actually have 301 points and 6,838 pages. Don't forget to go back and say whether or not you believe award/accolade winners deserved them. Discuss where you post for points.
Ladies, I really don't think a field trip counts as a "major" high school event. Formals, graduation, homecoming, etc. are major events. A class overnight, like a senior trip would fly. Can we be more specific if we're using a trip of some sort? A day trip to the museum or the like isn't major. Kristen?

Sorry Kellee, should have clarified. I was thinking along the same lines as Karis when I said yes. If it's like a field trip like an overnight or a trip to another state.. something more major. Something that is looked forward to rather than just the usual trip. I can't think up a good example right now.
My class went to DC for a couple days, and my choir went on tour to NY and Canada for a week as well which might be good examples. We'd also do trips to the beach to study tide pools, but since we were back on the same day, that wouldn't count.4.10 Demonglass (Romance) 359 pages

Kristen wrote: "You are so in BSC lately Kellee, what's going on? :) Revisiting childhood books?"There's a group of us on Twitter that decided that over the summer we were going to reread some of the series and talk about them. We read 4 a week for the whole summer (including the prequel and GNs), so we made it to number 31. We're going to continue each break we have :) It has been so much fun to reread them!

What did you think, Amy? I love Nancy Werlin, and I adored this book. The cover is stunning.

I didn't really love Extraordinary. It started out okay but for me went downhill. I thought it was quite cryptic in the beginning and hated how the main male character tore apart the female lead. I loved the cover though!

Older post explanations:
I read Wither for the WT Top Novels List task and I am actually quite surprised that it was already on the list. It is a very good book and I gave it 5 stars and it deserves it, but I found it interesting that someone would choose to put Wither on the list over other YA novels, specifically some other dystopian ones.
Kristen gave Foiled 5 stars, so I read it for that task. I also gave it 5 stars, because it is such a unique, fun graphic novel.
I read Peace, Locomotion which is a nominee for my state award. I can definitely tell why it was nominated, but I found it weird that Florida nominated Peace, Locomotion when it is a companion to another novel; so, I don’t think it’ll win this student choice award because I think some students will find it confusing and hard to understand without reading the first novel.
For the National Book Award task, I am reading the nominee and winner from 2006. Sold by Patricia McCormick is a special book. She took on a topic that is so terrifying, but did it with respect and truth.
YAY Kellee!! :) <3 I am glad you enjoyed Foiled. :) I got to meet Jane Yolen and was excited to see they were selling it, so my copy is signed. I <3 Jane.

@message 152: I thought Soulless was pretty good (gave it a four-star.) There were some problems with it (you can read my review and status updates if you're curious) but for a first book, it was enjoyable.
