Janice CA10.8 Work Memoir.....
Answering 911: Life in the Hot Seat by Caroline Burau 4 stars
Ever since I read Michael Perry's Population: 485: Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time, I have been addicted to the writings of emergency personnel. I am awed by the jobs they do, and the honesty most of them convey, when they admit they are scared or angered by the things they witness on a daily basis. Nonetheless, they perform their jobs, and many lives are saved. This book is a great example of this type of dedication. Very interesting.

For those who get frustrated when they find “the perfect book” for a task, but they’ve already found another “perfect book” for that task…………
A. Read a book which fits another task from this challenge. The task must be one with some restrictions on the book chosen – for instance, you couldn’t use a task that only specifies a number of pages to be read. REQUIRED: When you post, please indicate which other task your book fits.
I read
, which would fit with 20.10AND
B. Read a book from the Fall Group Reads nominations that was not selected as the Fall Group Reads in its category.
For this part, I read

ERIN C5.4 I'm Glad My Mother Didn't Name Me
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
...not sure why, but though I have to give Audrey Niffenegger a lot of credit for pulling off the unique style of writing a book that doesn't quite occur chronologically, I'm glad "Niffenegger" isn't my last name.
*I'm claiming a Big Book ticket, at 536pp.
*Audrey Niffenegger is also a Goodreads Author.

5.10 Name That Car
My younger brother named my mom’s car “Bubbles” when we were teenagers. It actually fit, as it was a teal colored, two-door Saturn with a sunroof & had a bit of a carefree attitude (insomuch that a car has an attitude!). He was being a typical teenage dork – but it backfired; he ended up taking it to college & drove it until it died! So I read Bubbles Ablaze by Sarah Strohmeyer. 308 pages
15.5 Literature Map
I typed in Alice Hoffman, and found Elizabeth Berg, so I read The Last Time I Saw You: A Novel. I thought that the authors’ writing styles are very similar but Hoffman’s books always make me cry and this one didn’t. I've got three or four tasks "in progress," but it's been so long since I last posted, I figure I might as well claim what I've got now.---
5.1 Fall Colors
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake
"Lemon" being my color...and lots of leaves around here turn lemon-yellow during the fall.
10.3 Freedom!
V for Vendetta
It was good, but I much prefer the movie. The protagonists were fighting to end the oppression of the fascist government that'd taken over Great Britain in the wake of a major nuclear war.
20.6 Seeing Myself in a Title
The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin
My first name, "Megan," can be found in the title (thE dArk days of haMburGer halpiN). So can my middle name, but I loathe my middle name, so I won't use it :P
20.8 Pirate Talk
The Gospel According to Larry
An interesting book, and way more relevant today than when it was written almost ten years ago. Something I'd definitely keep on my classroom shelf.
30.5 Life Lessons
The Best and Hardest Thing by Pat Brisson (Rule 3: Ps and Qs) and Becoming Laura Ingalls Wilder (Rule 6: Most Important Sex Organ is the Brain)
The first book was pretty good, though her poetry wasn't nearly as polished as I would've hoped (and the "haiku" at the end wasn't a haiku! Don't bill it as one if it's not! *grumpgrumpgrump*). I didn't know very much about the REAL Laura Ingalls Wilder, especially about her later life and why she wrote the books, etc., so this was an interesting biography about her. However, the majority of the second half of the book talks about her daughter, Rose, since most of what we know about Laura comes from Rose's perspective.
