message 253: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) Finished my 4th book, the anthology, Hot Nights, Dark Desires. It was ok. I mainly wanted to read it for the story by Syndey Croft. The story is part of the ACRO series. I have really enjoyed that series, but I didn't enjoy this short story as much.

The Midnighters is a very good YA urban fantasy trilogy. It is about a group of teens in Oklahoma that are awake during the 25th hour of the day when all other humans are frozen. I rated each book at 4 stars.

Nita (gillnit) Switching my sibling rank book with the book, Warrior's Woman. First of all the cover is just awful. The book was published in 1990 and has Fabio on it. Yuck. The story wasn't that much better, I thought. It takes place on a future earth. The heroine escapes the planet after an evil director takes over. She lands on a planet of "barbarians" and is promptly overpowered by one and pretty much taken captive. She has to try to convince him that she is from another planet and needs his help. The hero was so over the top, I am male, hear me roar. Women on this planet are not allowed to hold any type of job, and can't wander around outside without an escort. I've read plenty of books with overprotective, possessive guys, and enjoyed them, but this guy was just too much. I found the whole story kind of ridiculous.

Elise-Pinterest+Goodreads=The Perfect Book Boyfriend (eliselovesshinyandnew) | 12 comments I love the book challenges, although I can never join because I usually can only read about half of what is required. However, because of the variety of books listed, I can always find new things to add to my TBR list LOL!!

Martina the Book Fairy (book_fairy) | 442 comments I have a question. I see a lot of folks using the Diana Tregarde mysteries by Mercedes Lackey as a trilogy (which I get, because there are three of them), but they also (IMO) meet the description of a stand-alone. The storylines are completely independent of each other - there's no story arc over the three. And the character set is completely different with the exception of Diana, who isn't the focus of each story, but a secondary character.

I have one of these books left and wanted to use it as one of my stand-alones. What say you?

But they are an official series and they do have a re-curring character in Diana so I'm guessing no, Martina, but I'll let Yz have the final say :)

Nita--you want to talk about over the top male characters--check out the Gor books Outlaw of Gor the writer (male) has some SERIOUS issues with females.

And Sanin--don't worry about not finishing. I keep a running total of how many books we as a GROUP read each year--and even if you only read ONE of the books in the challenge each month, that brings our group totals up by 12 books a year. So jump on in--don't be afraid to get your feet wet. We WILL save you. :oP
