Making some headway with award-winning miniseries, there is some research involved in the decisions behind what books are necessary to be added to the list and those that are omitted, but by far it is not perfect. If there are suggestions or comments, please let me know.
The total amount of pages might allow us for easier planning when we get to nominating series as our monthly reads.

Great list to calculate the time to read these series. Do you gathered data by hand on used a script to get page totals per book? I just think about running some statistical analysis on nominees and winners (for fun) and the info can be handy

Yup it's all been done by hand, glad that it is of any use to others, thanks for that comment. The reason I had to research each book at a time was not solely for the purpose of knowing how many pages each book has. I also tried reading reviews on all books related to a series, especially for cases where two books out of a trilogy won the awards, just to get general idea of what is essential for the enjoyment of the award-winning titles.
The data is not conclusive and is bound to have some mistakes in it, but I am also hoping that once we get through a series, we will be able to add to it.
For instance I would advise others against wasting time on Darwin's Children (unless they enjoyed the first novel thoroughly) since it does nothing to complete the story.

Just a heads up, I am still working on that miniseries list I have neither finished nor abandoned it. I will try finishing up in a couple of weeks and then we can break out the bubbly.

Art, in looking over the lists, I see you have not put the page count for Winterfair Gifts in the Vorkosigan saga.

Amazon has it for all the books (of course I haven't seen ALL the books) in small letters directly under the box that says "Kindle." Look for the blue text "read more" button in the description of the book. It is immediately below that.
I'm back at chipping away at the miniseries mess on our bookshelf. Soon we should be able to plan our reads in terms of series and get some of those out of the way.
The process is slow but I am not one to give up!

There are still about 10 entries missing but I have already started organising them by the amount of pages, this ought to help us planning our future reads.

Added a missing entry, VALIS Trilogy by Philip K. Dick
2 related works to a nomination on our list.
Also added Robot series to the list, it appears to be a rather extensive list with an overwhelming amount of related material to complement mere two nominations, but I have listed all of them in case we do an Asimov "challenge" in future.

Alright, I may now proudly announce that all the series so far known to me have been added to our list. Now all that remains is to fine-tune the existing list and keepining it updated if we find that some of the books should be removed from the related work lists or anything should be added. If you see a title on our bookshelf that is not on the list then it it most likely because it either can be read standalone or has a plot unconnected to the rest of the series.
Enjoy and keep me updated!

Hey everyone, wanted to remind all of our members than the content of this thread is a work in progress, with your help we will keep updating our list of series, both adding or removing related threads as we see the most fit.
If you know a particular series well and feel that our list is either incomplete or incorrect, feel free to point us in the right direction.
Thanks to the efforts of Kateblue we're enjoying our first challenge immensely, I believe than reading solely the award-winning title from the series would completely ruin the experience for me.
Thanks all in advance.

Kate, there's so much stuff I want to read that at times I feel as if my head's about to explode. I have about 5-6 books started and each and every one of them is fantastic.
I'm really glad that you guys introduce so many wonderful authors.

I like Charles Stross too. I've read first two of merchant princes series. At the same time his famous Accelerando was quite weak or at least uneven.

I stopped reading the Merchant Prince stories because, as usual, by the time the next book came out, I forgot what the previous books said. I figure I will read them all pretty soon because there have to be a bunch of them now.
I know I read Accelerando, but I don't remember a thing about it. It's like Scalzi, the only ones I remember any details about are the "Funny Ones" agent to the stars and red shirts. Yet I know I have read them all up until he started putting them out in short pieces on Amazon.

In case any of our members have browsed this post, some of the series appear striken out. Those are the series we have already read as a group, I've decided against editing them out of the original posts because it didn't seem necessary.
By the way everyone is welcome to comment on the series in this post, so that we can keep track of the discussion.

Was going through the list of series once again, looking for potential candidates for future challenges and noticed the Earthsea series.
I am 100% sure about all the related material being necessary to make sense of the award-winning and nominated titles, but I am not sure if Daughter of Orden should be included. Anybody else has any thoughts on that? I might remove it off the list, because it does not in any way enchance the experience of reading Tehanu and The Other Wind.

Um, Why does it matter since we already did the challenge? Is this for future readers?
What we did the last time was, I found Daughter of Orden after we had started the challenge, and you, Art, added it on. At least I think it was you. You decided that people could read either 6 or 7 to meet the challenge.
If you are setting this for future readers, I agree it could just be additional reading. At the time you selected the challenge, I don't think we had enough info to decide about Daughter of Odren. I also think that the book of short stories is unnecessary as the stories really don't have anything to do with Shadowhawk.
Also, I think it was Allen that found other Earthsea items that none of the rest of us found.
I still only really care about the first three, and the second is probably the best. To me.

One of the ideas behind the group was not only to read the books but also to provide feedback on what we read, so that the future members and readers could have a better idea of how certain series are to be read.
I will mark down Daughters as [optional], but won't remove it from the list. As we keep reading series as a group we will keep updating this list as we see fit, so whatever feedback our members may have is more than welcome here.

I looked up here on GR and Brightness Reef together with Infinity's Shore and Heaven's Reach are both the '2nd trilogy' and books 4-6 of the overall series. If you are aware how independent are the trilogies please inform

BTW also, the Children of Time won the 2016 Arthur C. Clarke Award. Per Wikipedia, it's a "British award given for the best science fiction novel first published in the United Kingdom during the previous year."
Children of Time is a great book. I have plans to read more books by Adrian Tchaikovsky. So far it seems that the fact that he haven't been nominated for Hugo for best novel simply because he is on the other side of the pond. There could be a lot of people, who push for broader representation of women and POC in Hugo/Nebula (which maybe a right thing to do), but almost none for non-US English-speaking authors, I don't even start about translations!

Thank you for raising this point!
Mostly we are adding non award-winning novels to our reading lists in cases where skipping a book will take away from the enjoyment of reading the award nominated and winning books of the same series.
So adding 1st book of the trilogy is essential related material, while adding 4th and 5th doesn't necessarily mean it will add anything to the novels on our reading list.
That being said, since it's a trilogy, sequels might as well be essential reading material that tell the complete story.
I suppose we will know more once we start reading and if more members will add to the discussion.

well, that is obviously too long for a month . . . Maybe do the first two one month and the others the next?
I'm sorry, but I cannot remember--how many pages were are aiming for in a month?

We'll cross that bridge when we'll get to it, no rush. Luckily we have plenty of material to read!

Once Hugo nominee list comes out I ought to make sure that there are no new miniseries on our reading list. I believe there are already a couple of entries that fall under that category.

There are several items that connect onto The Calculating Stars besides the followup The Fated Sky . there's a novella and I think there's a short story out there

Yes, short story is available on the author's site. Initial novella, The Lady Astronaut of Mars won Hugo a few years back

Just skimmed the list and I spotted one omission:
>Earthseed by Octavia E. Butler Total pages: 793
>Parable of the Sower -345pg
>Parable of the Talents - 448 NWBN
Parable of the Sower is missing nomination info, should be NNBN.
