Books for and about teens with gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender parents. Mostly young adult (YA) novels, some non-fiction. For high school and junior high age range.
Just to clarify for everyone, this list is only for teen books, so books published for teenagers. Not adult fiction or non-fiction. The character in the book either has to have an LGBT parent or an LGBT parent needs to be involved in the book's plot in some way.

You're welcome!I'm getting kind of close to the 100 book limit, something I never thought would happen, lol. In case I run out of room, I might remove some books. If that happens, I'll make a note in the comment section and maybe someone else with more votes than me can add them back in.
Thanks so much, Cheryl. I've reached the limit, so it would be awesome if you (or anyone else) would be willing to vote for some of the books. Maybe go down in order? The top 20? Or the top 50? Or just choose your favorites if you have them.
Well, I'm not qualified to actually vote on them as I've not read any of them. So, I'll go ahead and just give out a few votes to those on the bottom of the list. But meanwhile, if you have any titles that need to be added, and you can't add them, post them here.
Oh, the ones on the bottom of the list are actually the minor ones. Maybe better to vote for ones toward the top of the list because those are the first ones people will see when they visit.Kaje did vote for some (thanks Kaje) so I will go ahead and take some of my votes off and add new ones. I'll see if I can get all of the ones I know of to fit. If not then I will list the titles here.
Oh, hey, also Cheryl, I told Buzz his votes were not appropriate for the list because this list is only for books that have been published for teenagers. So if you could maybe unvote for those, it would be helpful.
You do know you can remove books that don't match the parameters of the list, right? Iirc, it's a tiny grey text near the description that you wrote....
No prob! The whole thing is tre' confusing, lol.Are you a librarian, Cheryl? I don't have a way to take books off the list myself.
All I see is the little "edit" link which lets me change the title and description of the list but doesn't let me take off other people's votes. I can remove my own votes but not other people's.
Oh! Ok, yes, I am a librarian, so I can remove the non-fiction books. Let me know of any others that should be removed.
Coping When A Parent Is GayLet's Get This Straight: The Ultimate Handbook for Youth with LGBTQ Parents
How It Feels to Have a Gay or Lesbian Parent: A Book by Kids for Kids of All Ages
They look like they belong on some list somewhere - but not this one, so they're removed.
Those are actually ones I added. They are all published for teenagers and they are all about LGBT parents. So they do belong on the list! I'm the list creator and I intended the list to be a resource for teens. Non fiction is ok as long as it is teen non fiction about LGBT parents and not just general non fiction like the ones Buzz added.
So I added them back in. Hope that's ok? I will let you know if I see anything else that needs removing. Right now everything looks ok.But if people did want to add more books (I'm near the top of my limit), you could always vote for...
Playground by 50 Cent (lesbian mom)
Angry Management by Chris Crutcher (two moms and two dads)
Removed these....Coronation Necklace
A Very Civil Wedding
Neither appeared to be YA or involve LGBT parents in any way.
Is there a comparable middle grade list? I can think of a number of books that could be added but aren't really YA (e.g. The Pants Project, The Best Man, The Family Fletcher Takes Rock Island).
I don't have one specifically middle grade for LGBT parents, but you're welcome to vote for anything upper middle grade here. Early chapter books and so forth might be a bit young, but 5th grade and up would be fine.By the way, does The Best Man have LGBT parents? I know there's a gay uncle and teacher.
There is also Gay Inclusive Books for Elementary Age Kids, but that's for all LGBT characters, not just parents. Still could use more voters, though!

So nice that the volume of YA and Middle grade LGBT+ inclusive books has gotten large enough that I get them confused.
