Bookerkc The Poisonwood Bible in a Fantastic Dads list? Interesting. I'm not sure I agree but I guess some people do agree.

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

The Kite Runner? He mistreated his children IMO.

I wouldn't consider him a fantastic dad either. But there are more odd choices on this list.

message 4: by Mary (new)

Mary There was most definitely no fantastic father figure in Hamlet

message 5: by Marcy (new)

Marcy Blesy Am I Like My Daddy? is for kids who lost a parent when they were young. It is a hopeful message.

message 6: by Schell (new)

Schell Are these Fathers who are somehow are extremely bad or good? Although, a lot of the books don't even have a father in them!

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Is the reason The Chronicles of Narnia is on this list because of Aslan? Tenuous.

message 8: by Marie (new)

Marie About 90% of the books in the list right now just doesn't make sense.

message 9: by Bookshoprobber (new)

Bookshoprobber Laura wrote: "Is the reason The Chronicles of Narnia is on this list because of Aslan? Tenuous."
Agreed. This list doesn't make sense.

message 10: by Mary (new)

Mary Hamlet? Really? I am a bit confused. One father figure makes his son crazy by giving him ambiguous advice to commit murder, and the other commits incest, murder, and tries to have his "son" killed... What?

message 11: by Nicola (new)

Nicola The whole Narnia series is full of strong father figures. Aslan, who represents a very paternalistic view of Christianity; Professor Kirk, various kings including Peter and Edmund, Caspian, the king of Archenland, lots of wise counsellors (human and talking animal), and even the odd reference to Mr Pevensey.

message 12: by Erica (new)

Erica Who's the father figure supposed to be in Holes? And Charlotte's Web? Hunger Games? Princess Bride?

message 13: by Shadowjac (last edited May 20, 2016 11:01AM) (new)

Shadowjac Okay Runaways, Pride and Joy has an abusive father should I remove it?

message 14: by Radclyffe U-Haul (new)

Radclyffe U-Haul Shadowjac wrote: "Okay Runaways, Pride and Joy has an abusive father should I remove it?"

ALL the parents in that series are supervillians, so yeah, I'm not sure how it got on this list...

message 15: by Radclyffe U-Haul (new)

Radclyffe U-Haul The Glass Castle is a memoir, not a novel and either way I really wouldn't call Walls' father "fantastic"...

message 16: by Radclyffe U-Haul (new)

Radclyffe U-Haul Pigeonsquid wrote: "The Glass Castle is a memoir, not a novel, and either way I really wouldn't call Walls' father "fantastic"..."

message 17: by Mir (new)

Mir The Secret Garden? The father is totally neglectful and leaves his child to be cared for by servants.

message 18: by tabascosauce (last edited Jul 01, 2019 02:38PM) (new)

tabascosauce There isn't any father figure in Princess Bride... in fact it's pretty fatherless.

(edit: Gone With the Wind revolves around Scarlett and Gerald comes into it as much as Ellen does, so there's not a huge father figure there either.)

message 19: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth I think taking out Fantastic from the Title of the List would solve half of the issue. Maybe rename Strong Father or Father Figure Presence.
