In 2009, Barry Finlay went up a mountain as an accountant and came down as a philanthropist. After over thirty years in various financial roles with the Canadian federal government, he took his life in a different direction and climbed Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro at age 60 with his son Chris. The climb and their fundraising efforts to help kids in Tanzania changed his life in a number of ways, including the start of his writing journey. He wrote his first book, the popular Kilimanjaro and Beyond: A Life-Changing Journey with his son in 2014.

I found that when I returned and started making presentations about the climb, there was a lot of interest so my son and I wrote Kilimanjaro and Beyond. It was such an enjoyable experience, I just kept writing. I now have 5 published books with the last three being thrillers. (less)

I would not consider myself a "plotter" but I do plot one or two chapters ahead by writing some story lines at the end of the last chapter I have written. That helps me avoid writer's block to some extent but it still happens occasionally. That's when I walk away.(less)

This is another good book by Rick Mofina. We listened to the audio version on a road trip, and it certainly kept us engaged. Mofina is an excellent storyteller with well thought out dialogue. I recommend this book for fans of the genre.
