80 Hit Books of the Past Decade (By Year)

What makes a book a hit in the publishing industry? There’s no standard, really. Depending on your point of view, various commercial and critical elements factor in – reviews and sales and the constantly moving wavelengths of pop culture resonance. It’s a tricky business.
Nevertheless, we persist. Below is our collection of the biggest “hit” books from the last 10 years, published in the U.S. from 2012 to the present. We factored in overall popularity but also sorted for books with 4-star ratings or above–books enthused about in the Goodreads community, specifically.
We’ve selected eight titles from each calendar year, with the goal of creating a kind of interesting jumble–a sampling of the books that made waves that year. Hopefully, this will spark some pleasant memories. Feel free to discuss further in the comments section and add interesting backlist specimens to your Want to Read shelf.

I have read 30 of them. A few that made the list is questionable but I love variety and this list has it!! Always willing to read something new.

Clearly, I don..."
Jeff, same here, about 250 books a year. I've read 13 of the ones listed here, only 1 received a 5-star rating from me. Our literary tastes are intact!
Ann wrote: "I've read 13, DNF'd three and have eight on my TBR."Same here, 13. Only ONE did I rate 5 stars (A Little Life). Three I rated 1-star. Circe and Lincoln Highway on my to-read list.
Chad Harbach's brilliant "The Art of Fielding" isn't here. None of the six awesome "My Struggle" books are here. I believe I see 5 non-English writers. What's up with that?
I’ve read 6 with 2 yet to read. I just don’t seem to read that many hyped ones! I read Anxious People and Silent Patient, which were disappointing!

*Three* of them are here (+ maybe double that number overall on the list).
Clearly, I don't read the books with the Mega marketing behind them. :D
