This book is more about the world building than character, which is fine but it should tell at least an interesting story bc so much of the action is just flat.

Hopefully it picks up.

Most anticipated Avatar comic (since this was supposed to be THE epilogue to the show) and was kinda meh on it, especially compared to the previous one. It resolves itself way too quickly. Not bad but just a let down

Rereading it thanks to a physical copy I now own. It's good so far, though nothing spectacular that is going to rekindle my love just yet. Hoping nostalgia doesn't blind me to the flaws this time

Short story doesn't live up to the book imo, and it's hard to judge it on its own merits having experienced the novel first. This short story was good though, but I can't help but feel as if it was just an overview of the story rather than a short story good on its own. Still enjoyed it, just read the book first if you can.

I feel like he really undersold how awful slavery was, which is saying something. While it's not the most engaging read (though it certainly has some great moments), it certainly is an interesting one. I feel like I would have gotten more out of this if I knew more about the era/life of Douglass. But even then, I got a lot out of it.

I've decided to put down this book. Not because it's bad, but because I am simply not ready to read it. The abundance of names and antiquated writing I am not yet used to. It's like showing Citizen Kane to someone who only watches Marvel movies.

I WILL revisit this book, but this book is not for me right now. I've been slaving away at the book not enjoying it.

Probably should have picked a different book to read over the winter because this destroyed my patience and I had other books I wanted to get to lol.

It's not a bad book, but I feel like my enjoyment was marred because I'm not used to books like this. Will revisit in a few years once I'm well attuned to stuff like this.

Was going to read a lot of this yesterday, but then we got attacked by terrorists and there went my entire day just scrolling through the news horrified. Was not in the right state of mind to read.

So far, the book has been redeeming itself. Still takes way too long for things to get done - and not in a slow burn sort of way - but it's good enough to continue.

Oh hey look, the book is good again. It goes on long tirades and diatribes, names and events are hard to keep track of and yet - it's so interesting to read. Props to the translators getting all this mania onto the page. That philosophical debate was the best part of the book so far and basically nothing happens and it's hard to follow. But it's great!

Part two is not as hyped as part one. Even trying to give it the benefit of the doubt as a "slow burn", it still goes on for way too long with not much happening. Hopefully part three picks it up

Update: definitely the most I've read in a single day. While it is shy from binge-reading status, it is certainly really interesting to read nonetheless. Wish it would scale back the huge blocks of uninterrupted text just a little bit, especially with dialogue.

This book is chaotic and manic and I am absolutely loving it. I'm not so much enamored with the story, but rather the prose (of my translation) that puts so much description on the reader it's hard to keep up (and better for it).

It started off a lot different than I expected it to be, but I am enjoying this a lot - even if that really long monologue is a bit hard to follow. Something about it being so chaotic is really drawing me in. This is the most I've enjoyed a book in a long while.

Okay the ending really makes up for this book and retroactively makes a lot of it worth it. This book is completely random and just speeds through anything that resembles a plot, but the ending really sticks the landing (and is genuinely funny).

I may finish off the third book after all, but I am a bit hesitant to continue. 7/10

Most pages of a book I've read in a single sitting in a while.

But that's not an attribution to the quality of the book: my opinion of it has only slightly improved, but this is still a HUGE step down from the first. The book just seems more nonsensical rather than relying on clever satire. It just falls flat when it goes for humor.

Yeah really don't know what's not clicking with me (perhaps it's because it's not an ensemble piece like the first).

It's kind of picking up and there are some funny moments, but it's a let down compared to the first. Maybe that's me being weird.

Currently reading it and tbh, I'm disappointed. Nearly every joke sort of failed for me, unlike the first book.

I don't know what's not clicking for me this time.

My goal of creating an audiobook was harder than expected. My enjoyment of the book improved once I accepted that the western part happens and enjoyed it on its own merits.

Probably will never record another audiobook again

Currently re-reading this, but recording a (shoddily recorded) audiobook to go with it.

I am liking it a little more, but of course my problem lies within the second part of this book - which I hope I don't get bored to tears while recording it.

Also really good entry. I love how Ozai is essentially turned into Hannibal Lector and manipulates Zuko into nearly regressing. Toph and Sokka's plot is pretty good and fun. Aang and Kataraa's is the front and center and surprisingly has heart to it.

Great follow up

Really surprised at the depth this comic has already. It gets dark without overriding the happy ending, and actually talks about morals in politics? This blows the Korra comics out of the water completely.

Yeah it's on par with Season 2, BUT the finale is good so much so that it is the saving grace. The pacing is a little too quick for anything to happen and Korrasami gets too much focus, but it works.

Man I hate to compare everything to S2 of this show but it really does feel like S2. The villain is really mediocre in this.

Probably needed more issues to flesh this out. The most important thing out of anything is Korrasami

Hate that everything isn't collected as one.

Decided to read the comics after finishing Korra. So far, it's good set up. But the most important part: GAY PRIDE.

Nothing spectacular but it didn't try to be anything more than set up for the second and third book. Also LoK is a good show why do people hate it :(

Should have finished this earlier, but didn't because lack of interest. Marginally better than the first book, but falls into the trap of not showcasing Sherlock's talents as much and going on a really long speech that explains everything.

Didn't follow the plot well because of large gaps in reading, but it was okay.

Got an entire collection of Sherlock Holmes stories to keep me mildly occupied during the school year. Making my way through this novella after my first (rather lackluster) foray.

So far, it's already improved on it. Not rushing to read the rest but I am enjoying it.
