Took a long gap between Act III and IV (like 2 weeks), so the impact is a bit blunted. But the Mad King Lear scenes are still tragic and some of the best Shakespeare's written (and no more Fool!). The Edgar plot I can give or take (probably better watched tbh).

It's good...

Scene 2.4 is why I love Shakespeare. To read King Lear's desperate cries for help made me almost well up while reading out loud. So ugly and tragic, and yet I empathize with such a man.

Still though not loving the Fool. The negative aura he brings - I get his purpose, but his speeches go on for way too long

Now that I don't have a long commute, I am just opting to listen to this book while doing random chores. Too bad I'm also studying for a big board exam

Okay so Act 3.3-3.4 actually is straight up fire (though I have a feeling that sleeping scene... probably is left out). Still shy of landing among my favorites as it's taken me so long to get through it but I now can say I understand the praise. Iago is truly slimey and brings out the worst in all

I guess the hot take is that I guess I do have to watch a production in order to fully appreciate this. It is good, but damn these speeches go on for a while and are just exposition - not the moral philosophy that I love. But damn, Iago is ruthless and I think Shakespeare tackling racism is still something that is noble.

First time reading Shakespeare without an adaptation, maybe hampering my enjoyment. I respect how unabashedly evil Iago is from the first scene, but so many monologues that aren't chewy enough. Just explaining things in an unpoetic way

I love it when you gasp at the prose because it's so good. Is it a case of a bad story told well? I can't say for certain - but alas, I am just smitten by the story. I want these characters to get together.

Immediately reading it, I had to highlight several soloquies. Yes Romeo is an emo boy - but like his monologues about being depressed about lacking love SELLS me on that. So many amazing monologues and the dialogue RHYMES! Shakespeare is a genius!!!

This book has given me comfort as I went through probably one of the toughest moments of my life - and hope. Going to buy a physical copy of this book and highlight it for later.

The amount of Occupational Therapy representation in this is awesome. Don't know how much I love this book on a reread (especially the falling action), but it's still great. Probably on the same level as before though

Bought on a whim, but I've been Shakespeare pilled. Wanted to just read a few pages, but read the entire first act. Already plan on reading this many times over and complete his work. Also 3.71 on Goodreads? This website does not know quality when it sees it.

Damn I still kind of think I hate George W Bush.

War is hell and I also hate George W Bush.

Still love that the military is shown to be frat-boy hypermasculine culture (which is supposedly accurate), and yet I respect them. Still going to say that George Bush is an awful President who get them into this quagmire of a war.

Currentl re-listening to this in Audible since I went through this at 2x speed last time, now taking my time. I've been listening to this since February - and it is still an interesting book. Still really wish it was more science than history (but of course, that's the title). Not interesting ALL the time, but still very interesting.

Wanted to listen to some nonfiction history to take a break from The Gene book I've been listening to (give me some characters!). Was disappointed in the show adaptation, but still interested in this (since it is the most accurate description of the frat like culture in the military). Awesome narration.

DNF man, I can't stand these pop culture references that are so "fellow kids" coded

Chapter 17 is probably one of the most inspiring and beautiful chapters about mercy and justice I've read. Incredibly moving. This chapter alone is worth all the acclaim this book has been getting

Every day I listen to this in the car, I feel miserable. Tries way too hard to be snarky and the plot is just boring. I don't get it...too bad I paid for this book already.

Love how I've read this twice and only somewhat understand what is going on.

Got myself a sub to Marvel Unlimited so I can read comics instead of Doom scrolling on Twitter, the first issue to this is amazing. Good work. Time to immerse myself in comics again

Trying to finish this before I go on a plane...but alas I don't see how that's possible :(. I've read this book through so many ups and downs in my life this year, just wild.
