This book is just infuriating at seeing how much injustice there is within America and its justice system. At least in the South, it is unnecessarily cruel.

Enjoying how dark it is, but also how it is basically a dark comedy as well. Such a good balance between the two tones - it strips the plot back just a bit to have these nice character moments. Good stuff

Alright guys Alabama had a good run but after reading chapter 3 I think it's time that we remove them from the country. Thanks.

That prologue shook me, and that first chapter shook me. Very well written and I can just tell this is going to be an upsetting story

Life currently falling apart and my soul has been crushed into millions of pieces, but at least I am having a better life than the people in this book right now

Prepping for my D&D campaign by finally reading this while on a treadmill. The narration goes so hard

This is straight up more a drama than a horror story - at least in the beginning. Not a huge fan of the prose (first person that addresses the reader as "you" is so grating), but the way it describes how mundane grief can be is really interesting.

Wang Lung will be your favorite person in the book until he does the most heinous selfish stuff, and then redeems himself, and then does the most heinous selfish acts once more.

This book may have some pacing issues imo (some parts go too fast, some parts go too slow) but the main character is so complex, especially through the lens of today's values. He mostly has our modern values, but lives in the past and must abide by a patriarchal society that hinders his lifestyle. It's so amazing.

Some quality stuff. Some quality prose. Such in depth characters that are a product of their time, but still resonate with modern sensibilities. This book deserves to be taught in schools.

The momentum has not yet slowed. This book if it keeps at this pace, it may be up there among my favorite books. And the fact that this book was written by a white woman from America in the 1930s is just amazing too.

First two chapters in and I'm already blown away by the simplicity of the writing, the complexity of the characters, and what the plot is promising. We're in for some good stuff

It's good. This is one of those classics I can appreciate, but it is just not that well written imo. So much "by and by" and the dialogue kills me. Still, at its heart is a good story.

This book redeemed itself for having a stand in for Emperor Norton. History's version of everyone going along with a meme regardless of politics or class.

It's fine. Entertaining enough to hold my interest but it's not a classic that makes me rush to read the next chapter

It's good. Like the most "good, not great" classic I've read. Has almost nothing to do with Tom Sawyer though so I don't know why I read that tbh.

Free on Audible AND only 3 hours? Cool. It's good. I don't have much to say about it aside from neat premise and it's a simple story for sure.

After an underwhelming experience with Tom Sawyer, let's hope that the sequel is better...and so far, it is promising!

Trying to knock off my Tbr by reading books I am only semi-interested chapter by chapter before bed. It is well written, but I still have zero interest in mountain climbing

Liking What You See - really interesting concept and it's mostly just a giant "What If?" if people developed a way to remove the brain's ability to see attractiveness. And while it's light on story, it's up to you to think if this is a dystopia or a utopian technology that will dramatically improve society. 9/10

Hell is the Absence of God - 10/10. Scientifically accurate religious miracles and still maintaining the mysteries of religion? Amazing stuff. This is personally my favorite story thus far and probably one of my favorite stories of all time. Just all around really interesting in how miracles would have implications in the real world and how complex it would be to deal with them.

Evolution of Human Science - makes for good flavor text for an entire world, but it's a 5 minute short story elaborating on a concept from the previous story. Basically an epilogue.

72 Letters - This was a good story, it is just dense enough that the concept is intriguing but it works well as a thriller too. Awesome ending. 8/10

Genuinely speaking, this may be one of the worst history books I've read. Probably not something that I was supposed to binge listen to, but I can find myself cringing at the inaccuracies and calls to arms through information. I know I shouldn't expect a textbook, but it is just way too propagandizing even for me

Absolutely crazy takes this book makes, where now that I am more familiar with the content the less I want to finish it. I semi-agree with what it says, but it makes me really hate the tone and how it continuously refuses to explain actions people make aside from "I AM EVIL". No one insults the Peanut Farmer like that and gets away with it >:(
