This book is irrelevant as a book, the audiobook is really great and elevates the material so hard. Still - it's just good. Some segments are really interesting, but it just feels like world building rather than interesting stories (for the most part).

Currently grinding audiobooks on this really long car ride. So far, this is good - takes a very empirical approach to a Zombie outbreak and combining actual science with fiction, as well as almost going painstakingly as possible real as it could. A far cry from the movie.

The movie really left out everything with the Indigenous person - which is basically the heart of the book. I usually don't like to compare the movie to the book (especially when both are good), but as a lukewarm enjoyer of the movie, it has forever been tarnished after reading this. (though Nicholson's performance is still great!)

Listening to this on audiobook over the past couple days and it only surprises me as to how engaged I am with it over the movie - mostly because I really hate Nurse Ratchett even more (with some moments shockingly excised from the movie). Also shout out to OT being mentioned not once but TWICE

Put this book on as a book I would read only a few pages of to pass the time, but surprise surprise it is actually really engaging still - its difficult syntax at times regardless. Damn I now have to finish it

Been reading this for the past few days - it starts off kind of annoying and I was ready to put it down after this book was hyped to high heaven. BUT it does evolve into something a lot more engaging. Doubt it will be an all time favorite, but it is entertaining

Sometimes I wish I was a biology major so I could learn more about this - but that would also mean I would have to learn about PLANTS and SEA ANIMALS and I ain't about that kind of life

Down at the Dinghy - a sweet story about motherhood and complying with a child's imagination, as naïve as the are, in spite of a society that can be cruel and harsh. The ending was sort of touching in a way - and it didn't go the easy route of conedming prejudice explicitly, but rather subtly. 8/10

The Laughing Man - this is definitely the worst story so far (imo). Tells a story within a story, but only one of them is interesting and the other is fine - but is told so sparsely (continuing with the plain prose) that it's not engaging. Don't know why these two interconnect with each other either. It's fine I guess, but nothing extraordinary.

6/10

Man this dude could write fire and have an immaculate knowledge of literature AND be a Yale neurosurgeon professor AND be humble. What a guy

Found a good stopping point for the Brothers K so I wanted to pick up the next book for the club next. This is a lot simpler than I anticipated, which isn't necessarily bad as it just straight forward. Just a lot less depth than I anticipated.

It's getting into overly optimistic territory at times, but it works. Also learning about pediatrics so it was fun to see the content I learned in grad school in this book.

The best part is not knowing who is talking because of how LONG their tirades are, but being interesting in what is being said because a lot of it is really profound. But for real - I understand just about half of the narrative (and that is with Spark Notes)

Can't wait to go "Uh Akshually..." when someone brings up the Stanford Prison Experiment, Milgarm Experiment, or the Kitty Genovese murder.

Literally stopped reading this to read Lord of the Flies because it spoils it in its entirety - mostly because I think the arguments the author is making is compelling. Written overlapping with the 2016 US election, it purports that humans are inherently good people and kind to each other. The first section hooked me so I must see how this holds up

This is actually good. The 3.69 average rating is around where I would put it, but it is very good.

Just Before the War... - Gonna be honest, this is way too much subtext that I can't enjoy the text as much as the rest. It was good, but really simple and even the character arc was really simple. It's quaint, but this one isn't mind-blowing even though it was probably the most minimalist story thus far that got its point across. low 7/10

So this is considered one Hemingway's worse books due to him being a new writer and it shows. Just so much... nothing, and not in the way that it's all about vibes. Just... nothing and it's not exactly well written either.
