The late 80s/early 90s nostalgia this book is steeped in is glorious, and it's so well written and intriguing too.

Ooo the plot implications being strewn about already this early on in the book gave sunk their teeth into me already

In a book where giant scorpion crabs and anthropomorphic lizard monsters are eating people left and right, it's the hyper religious Republican president that is the real terrifying horror. He's written so well, too. Very easy to hate, as any villain should.

Rampaging crab monsters, blood and gore, insane, extremely religious Republican president. It's almost as terrifying as real life.

Absolute chaos right out the gate. I love this series.

For being as bleak and oppressive this world is, everyone has crazy senses of humor.

Was wanting to read some violent, dark fantasy like Song of Ice and Fire, but knowing that series is never going to be completed in book form, I sought out the next best thing, or so I'm told.

This book is just pure horror candy.

The main character's name is Rick, and he's a writer. I have never found it easier to relate to a character in a novel in my life.

This book is so gnarly, I love it. Just nonstop gross out horror with mutant insects.

Sanderson spent books building a intricate social structure involving the colors of ones eyes, weird politics and prohibiting men from learning to read, only to crash all of it again the rocks of the Shattered Planes. This man is a literary genius.

Everything and absolutely nothing is happening all at once and it's so incredibly entertaining.
