King Crusoe > Recent Status Updates

Book has continued to be quite good. Was able to finish up all of Sunday (the first of the three days the book takes place over), and it continued to be quite good and interesting, with some fun execution on otherwise well-known ideas.

The first chapter of Monday was a bit of a step-down tho, don't really care for that POV, but hoping it picks up again soon.

Ch. 12-14 were probably in totality thus far the driest and most dense/tiring read of the book so far.

Or rather, 12 was dense and brain-busting.
Then 13 was dry.
Then 14 was a little less dry.

But after Ch. 12, 13-14 were harder.

15 appears to be much more dense again - and a but longer, so that will be tomorrow’s task.

Honestly, the one scene I was worried about revisiting with different eyes was super solid still. Massive respect for how that was handled, even as somebody who has never been fond of that aspect over the years.

I'm genuinely shocked that everything about this so far is better than the previous two books.

A couple chapters further - staying more consistent than book 2 already.

The first 2 chapters were surprisingly great. Setting up for a book that could easily be the best of the 3. I'm hoping I overall like this one more than the other two.

Chapter 11 had a LOT of stuff. Fascinating because some of the little stuff is starting to come together, despite only being like halfway through the exposition 😂

Some really great material, some small revelations, some life lessons. Good chapter.

Holy. Wow.

The psycho-ward part of Ch. 10 was so good 🥹

Endnotes have hit the field lol

Ch. 7 had very good prose, heightened by a lot of moments where reading the endnotes made the actual paragraphs containing them go from “wtf” to “Oh! I get it!”

Then Ch. 8 had an 8-page filmography endnote that I think just dropped a million and a half hints for the future. That endnote made me too distracted to understand Ch. 9 or even 8, despite both being real short.

Okay, got a little extra done today, so that feels good lol.

Gonna be a struggle to finish this one by end of month (probably not gonna happen), but maybe by my next reading wrap-up video it'll be done at least lol

Steady progress, but a tad slower than I’d admittedly like. I will try to make up for slow going next week.

This trilogy is so weird in some ways. Many of the supernatural/magical ideas feel more like epic/traditional fantasy elements rather than where they exist here lol

Decided to finally give this one a start after pushing it off a couple months. Riordan always hits a great spot for me.

Notable jump in complexity due to even more POVs (one of which was written quite densely), so didn’t get as much read today as I wanted 🥲

Those first couple chapters were fantastic. Off to a surprisingly smooth and great start 🙌🏻

Several chapters into Joshua; definitely a different vibe than the last few books have been.

Stronger start than the first book so far.

Audio only on this one. Hoping to be done quicker than not.

The first few chapters are a little shaky, but once I got into it, I got INTO it. This book is genuinely fascinating in numerous ways. Chapters 10-20 are great thought-provoking material.

Finally getting around to more King by starting my re-read of Rage.

I recall this one being generally underrated back when I read in 2020, so it'll be interesting to see how I think of it now.

Pain.

The dichotomy in the journeys between the characters is surprisingly well done tbh

Halfway through; fascinated by the structure and balance/execution of ideas so far.

Some of this is REALLY working, some of it not so much. Pretty typical McCarthy performance at this point hahaha

Book is hella good. Came up with the ONE bad thing about it - and that more of a disappointment since the decision was odd, but very much love this book.
