King Crusoe > Recent Status Updates

I feel like a good bit of important stuff flew right over my head, particularly *The Courier’s Tragedy*, but I find myself still highly enjoying myself - and continually intrigued - in spite of it.

First couple chapters down. Not bad so far, tho I don’t really know what to say otherwise yet lol

That’s what I read yesterday and (classically) forgot to update. Hope to finish today, but we’ll see.

I confess...I'm not a fan of "The Duc De L'Omelette"; I think the writing is a bit too obtuse for something so short, including a LOT of French phrases thrown in that make the reading process clunkily cumbersome.

The idea it's exploring is fun - and funny - in hindsight, being a satirical take on a dance with the devil, but I cannot say it's an enjoyable read. Good idea, bad execution. 2/5

"The Alchemist" didn't quite impress me the way that "The Beast in the Cave" did due to some goofiness in the narrative (and a similar problem with being overtly explicit in the explanation at the very end, thereby "ruining" the mystery"), but it was still fun for what it was. 3/5 for this one, compared to 4/5 for "The Beast in the Cave".

Closing in on the end. Should (hopefully) be done in the morning so I can record my next couple videos :D

Now that Disquiet Gods is done, I'm finally back to this. Tryna binge through it before my next Reading Wrap-Up and TBR video XD

Well I certainly thought I read more than that this morning, but I have now officially stepped into Act 3.

Bring on the pain.

Given I’m 70% through the book…this revelation that just occurred should not have surprised me at all, since my initial expectations would have been impossible without EVEN MORE pages 😂

That said, I’m bow suddenly very confident I know where the book is going here as Act 2 evolves into Act 3 and the last third of the book prepares to ramp up.

Finally at the 2/3’s point. This book has so much cool shit.

Ch. 47 might be my favorite of the book so far 🥲

Forgot to update all book progress yesterday, but this thing is going NUTS. People who have found themselves excessively confused with the ideas in the series so far, DiW-KoD would be the notable examples, might struggle with this 😂

Already through the first 8 Chapters because I’ve reading all morning and plan to continue reading all weekend (with the eARC that you can buy straight from Baen’s website btw!!!), and it’s already so damn good.

I love this series.

Totally forgot to mark that I started this yesterday.

I'll tell you what, it's basically whiplash going from Ruocchio and Chase; Tolstoy; Poe and Lovecraft; and McCarthy to Riordan from a prose and pacing perspective XD

I am now finished with Part III. Good stuff. Should be through Part 4 by the end of next weekend - potentially this weekend depending on what I do with these next few videos I need to edit.

Made a significant dent in Part 3. Some of the farm stuff with Levin was a little strange to follow, but still fun.

I find the drama with Anna and Alexei Alexandrovich to be the most engaging part of the story at this point.

Got the first story read: The Beast in the Cave.

Shockingly well done story with very engaging prose for something apparently written by a 15 year old. I thought the last paragraph or two kind of ruined the tone and mystery built up through the pages prior, but overall I quite enjoyed this, even if what was so well left to the imagination was revealed front and center by the narrator.

So, I finally read "Scenes From Politian", an unpublished drama...and it was quite entertaining! I enjoyed it a decent bit, and the various dialogue between the limited cast was very well done.

Also read the first story: Metzengerstein. This story has a shocking amount of depth for the first one in the collection, which makes my job on Short Story Sundays more fun!

Happy to be a few chapters into Part 3 now.

Shooting to be through Part 4 by the end of the month, if not further.

Finished Part One. Some interesting developments for these characters, though nothing much has happened yet.

The trio has returned to being a duo at the end of this, which I find questionable, but we’ll see how this continues.

Finally finished Part 2 right before the new year. We still vibing :nodders:

I wasn’t immediately hooked the way I was with NCFOM but now that I’m getting invested in the characters since the trio is together, I’m also invested in the journey.

Hoping I overall enjoy this book and trilogy tho. 1:1 ratio with McCarthy so far, let’s see if he can keep the scales on the positive side.

Weekend reading :)

I remember writing in my review for The Prophet of Edan that the primary reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because part of the “magic” that made m love book 1 so much wasn’t really there for some reason, despite still being a great book.

This one has that magic back, avenged sevenfold; I just love reading this thing so much, and there’s so much to appreciate at every turn of the page.
