King Crusoe > Recent Status Updates

Jerusalem's Lot done. Fantastic. Loved the epistolary format (emulating Dracula especially); loved the mysteries that weren't answered (not even in 'Salem's Lot); loved the way it was written - King even featured in the oldest writings of English in the story a capitalization of all nouns - something that English USED to do...a very long time ago, and largely only exists nowadays in German to my knowledge. Love that.

Part Three is off to strong start.

No surprises there.

Coming up on the final stretch. 40 pages left.

Took 3.5 months, but I've cracked 1000. FeelsGoodMan.

Chapter 28 started. Great start actually. Have high hopes for the remainder of the book.

Finished Part 2 of The Failures tonight.

Definitely shaping up to be one of my favorite books of the year. Some of my favorite worldbuilding ever and aside from a random clunky sentence now and again (and I suppose some snarky/snappy dialogue that not everybody will like), everything is working pretty much perfectly for me.

1 last update for the day. 3 more chapters left in Part 2, still going very strong.

People say it picks up in Part 3, but man I’ve already been invested since the start.

Certified Nodder

The re-read has begun, and I got a bit further than I expected.

The book is just as good - if not better - in the first half already as I remember it being.

This is basically McCarthy's only "entertainment" piece, and it does quite well for it. Easily the most re-readable of any of his books.

Didn't update any of the reading over this weekend...but I am now done with Ch. 27. Only 1 more chapter - 175-ish pages left - until my journey with Infinite Jest is over.

Chapter 27 was FANTASTIC through and through. Very little that I felt exasperated or bored by, and plenty that I felt very strongly about.

High hopes definitely going into this final stretch.

Well I started Part 2 back last Monday (and forgot to update); I thought I'd get to read most of the part through the week, but instead buckled down on a copy edit job.

Will try to finish Part 2 by end of July, but we'll see how well I manage that one.

Ch. 27 continues to be fantastic; some material here is easily amongst the best and most powerful of the book. In spite of the moments that lowkey suck, Infinite Jest also contains some of the greatest material I've ever read as well.

It's gonna seem an awful lot like heresy, now on Ch. 12, but I just do not find any aspect of the judge compelling.

Ch. 27 continues to be pretty great!

Ch. 5: I feel like most of this imagery was supposed to be more evocative than it was for me...
Ch. 6: Basically same as Ch. 1; I'm following but still not sure what is or isn't working.

Chapter 1: Eh? Not really sure what half of it was tbh.
Chapters 2-3: Surprisingly great!
Chapter 5: A bit too repetitive for my tastes, both plot- and especially prose-wise.

Ch. 27 started pretty solid. The anecdote of Steeply father and M*A*S*H was great especially.

Well...the active hate isn't there this time. But I still have my issues with it, despite doing audio rather than eyeball.

One chapter left. I have been binging this one perhaps a bit too much this week haha

I'd say that my general consensus is that it's fine; Richard Poe as a narrator helps keep it from being bad (compared to Muller or Sala whose McCarthy narrations weren't great). It swings from really engaging to just simply existing, from pretty good to just whatever. Solid middle-of-the-road book, one that would center a tier list.
