MARTINA'S OCTOBER LITERARY COLORS CHALLENGE UPDATE - 7/10In the wee hours of this morning, I finished Underground (Greywalker, #3) by Kat Richardson (★★★★★).
The Greywalker series is an urban fantasy series set in Seattle featuring a private investigator named Harper Blaine. Awhile ago, Harper died - but just for two minutes - and when she came back, she was a Greywalker, a person able to walk the "grey" between the worlds of the living and the paranormal.
In this book, Harper's friend, Quinton, asks her for help investigating a series of strange murders among the homeless people in Pioneer Square, Seattle's oldest neighborhood.
I loved this book! It's very rich with local color, and if you live in the Seattle area (as I do) you'll particularly love it! The book is loaded with Seattle history & folklore, including local Native American mythology. I would also strongly recommend this to readers who like Jim Butcher's, Dresden Files, as I feel the authors have a somewhat similar writing style and the stories have a similar "feel" to them.

Swapping After the Moment for Nightwalker. I know it's cheating a little, since only the lettering on the front & back of the book are green. But the book I checked out for green turned out to be a complete DNF & I don't have time to get another one from the library by Sunday. MARTINA'S OCTOBER LITERARY COLORS CHALLENGE UPDATE - 8/10At 2:30 this morning, I finished Savor Me Slowly (Alien Huntress, #3) by Gena Showalter (★★★).
The series is futuristic/alien urban fantasy. It's an indeterminate future where multiple races of aliens have come to earth. There was a big human/alien war, but now there's (relative) peace. However, there are government agencies specializing in alien intelligence & assassinations. And it's around one of those groups, designated the A.I.R. (though they don't remind you in this most recent book what it stands for) around whom the individual stories unfold.
This particular book focuses on A.I.R. agent, Jaxon Tremaine. Jaxon has been captured and is being tortured by a group of renegade aliens who seek to know more about the agency, but Jaxon isn't talking. He's rescued by a beautiful undercover operative named Mishka Le'Ace and sparks fly. Only Mishka isn't exactly what she seems and her motives on the case they're working aren't what they seem.
This book was an okay read, but was missing a bunch of the elements that I always enjoy most. There was instant sizzle between the two protagonists for absolutely no reason, which never grabs me properly. I like the slow burn better than love-at-first-sight. The storyline worked for me, but had some pacing issues. It dragged on in the middle of the book then wrapped up really quickly, too quickly, at the end. Still, the next book is already on my bookshelf, so I know I'll read it eventually. But, I might not pick up the one after that when there's so many other good books to be had.
