Okay. So yesterday my copy of Scoundrel finally arrived, and it was as delicious as Warrior. Really, this series is highly recommended, it's incredibly fun, and adventurous and fresh! But after finishing it I ended up tweeting with the author about it, which totally stirred me awake again, so I picked up the other book that arrived in the package, with the idea that I'd fall asleep after 3 chapters. I didn't sleep. The Iron Duke is utterly amazing. The worldbuilding! I'm totally shaken by it. Too shaken still to write a coherent review. It's just really, really, REALLY recommended. This might become one of those books you keep pushing people to read until they've read it. It's... Waow. Just Waow. Read it!

I read Monster when it first came out and I'm re-reading it for this challenge. It was OK but not my favorite of Martinez's books.
MARTINA'S OCTOBER LITERARY COLORS CHALLENGE UPDATE - 4/10I stayed up late last night (early this morning?) finishing Cry Mercy (Mercy Hollings, #3) by Toni Andrews (★★★★★). This series isn't "classic" PNR - more UF. It doesn't have vampires or were-creatures, but it does have a heroine you'd love to know who just happens to have a super-natural/paranormal power. Mercy has the ability to mentally "press" someone into doing what she wants them to. An ability that has caused her to be something of a loner - alienating her adoptive parents and steering clear of possible friends over the years.
Only now, Mercy DOES have a small group of close friends, and they've started to notice her power. Now she's under pressure from those friends - Sukey wants her to practice her power to gain more control and power over it. Sam knows Mercy has a secret, but won't take their relationship any farther until she can explain it, which Mercy can't b/c, being an orphan, she doesn't know why she has the power, not to mention, if she's even human! And Tino is pressuring her to use her power to help him with some questionable activity - which could get her killed!
I ADORE this series and can't wait to pick up the next book, though there's no release yet, the working title is "Without Mercy" and will be told from Sukey's POV instead of Mercy's. Should be interesting! Can't wait!

It took me a little while to get into this book. Personally I didn't like the chopping and changing of perspectives - it happened a little too often for me and distracted me from the main story lines. That being said it's still a really enjoyable tale with some really interesting characters I'd enjoy reading more about.
