It's silly how exciting I get for a children's book :) But I really liked the first series.
MARTINA'S OCTOBER LITERARY COLORS CHALLENGE UPDATE - 5/10I just finished Legacy (Anna Strong Chronicles, #4) by Jeanne C. Stein (★★★). This is an urban fantasy series featuring Anna Strong, a bounty-hunter, recently turned vampire.
In this book, Anna is stretched pretty thin. She's hired to help one of her worst enemies in a murder investigation, a werewolf is in town claiming to be Avery's wife, she discovers that her so-called "friends" in the paranormal world are keeping secrets from her, and she's under pressure from her family to be around more for the holiday season.
This one has been sitting on my shelf for awhile and after reading it, I remember why. I really find it pretty mediocre. It's still a fun, easy, read, but there's too many little sub-plots in the story and none of them are explored in enough depth AND they're wrapped up at the end too prettily. The book just feels . . . shallow. Of course, it doesn't help that I simply don't like much about Anna or her relationships, either. Still, I find myself wanting to keep with the series until the end. Whether I will buy the next one or not hasn't yet been determined.

Uck.I'm getting all frustrated! Last time I changed my list so many times I decided to not make a list this time, since I thought I'd read books for almost every color anyway, and then I could fill out the holes by the end.
Alas, I keep reading blue, red or brown books! It's like the books I feel like reading are all the same color!
And now we're almost at the end of the month and I've still only read 3 challenge books. It looked so simple at first, but suddenly it's going to be a real challenge to end in time...

Voices by Ursula Le Guin is the second book in Annals of the Western Shores, and it's equally as thoughtful and evocative as the first and last book. I really love how she writes, and when I realized that this series really is about books and storytelling and the power of tales and poetry, that was a lot of icing on a very tasteful cake. Recommended!
