Scarlata is folletti, a mythical fairy like creature. She likes her secret existence. She does not wish for any humans to find her or the even bigger secret that she is hiding in the Forest of Hawk Mountain. There is a very specific reason she has snuck into Justin’s cabin. He is a researcher. He is a researcher too close to her and her secret. He is a researcher that wishes to expose her to society. She can’t let any of this happen. As far Scarlata is concerned he must die, now and by her hands. There’s just one problem, Justin. She never expected to want to touch him, to seduce him, to do so many other things to his perfect body. What would one taste hurt? Plenty, Justin is not as affected by Scarlata’s magic as he should be and he wants more of what she has already offered!
When Scarlata and Justin finally come up for air they realize there is a bigger problem that Justin stumbling into the forest that she lives in. The company Justin works for sent him there. Justin has always been obsessed with field research, just like his father. He got the drive to find proof of the mythological from his father’s stories. Was Justin offered this assignment because of his imagination, his beliefs, or does someone at his company believe he can actually find something in the woods other than wildlife?
What a sweet erotic read this was. Very sexy read with such easily likable characters. I had no idea going into this book that it was set in the same world as What a Goddess Wants. Nortia and Salvatarus are in this book too. You need not read one to understand the other. The two series can be read independently. This is not witch magic, for whatever reason I have just never enjoyed witch magic. The magical element here is the natural magic that the mythical beings carry within themselves naturally. That is another enjoyable factor with this book, the uniqueness of the mythical characters. They are not the same characters you see over and over in so many books. Julian uses the Etruscan pantheon. It’s certainly fresh and a new variety of beings for me.
Honestly, I probably should've given this 1 star. IDK what it is with Ms Julian but she loves a good rapey meet-cute. THIS one starts with the heroine going to kill the hero - but decides he's so cute, she'll just put a spell on him so she can get down and dirty with him. Shhhhhhh! He'll never know.
*headdesk*
That, my friends, is rape. There's no way around it. I don't care he enjoyed himself. I don't care he thought it was a dream. She was having sex with him without his permission.
The rest of the story was rather meh, tbh. Nothing that made me want to continue the series...except I've read other books in this universe (not series, universe) and I liked one of the series in this universe.
This book was hot. Justin and Scarlata were a force of nature. Although this is primarily erotic, I was impressed by the underlying story and the supporting characters.
Scarlata is of the folletta race. They are basically gods and demigods from an Italian pantheon which I never heard of. It was a little confusing at first because it screamed Fae. None the less, she lives in the forest and pollution makes her sick. Oh yeah, she doesn't wear any clothes (at all) because artificial things bother her skin. Justin is a human that finds out the stories his father told him about magical creatures were not fairytales. Scarlata figures out that Justin is not on an extended camping trip but he is in her forest to expose her. She plans to stop his search for the truth when she breaks into his cabin to kill him. She takes one look at his sleeping form and has other ideas. After taking advantage of a very willing Justin, Scarlata discovers he can brush off her spells like shooing a fly. She wonders if he is 100% human. This question (along with many others) is resolved as the two find themselves targeted by the Mals. These are the required bad guys but that's about all we learn about them. I was never clear if they were all 100% human, only that they used black magic. Of course, since this is erotica, Scarlata’s magic stemmed from sex. It made for some interesting escape scenes. While on the run, she and Justin discover love and few secrets that change everything.
This is a novella that packs several punches. I do not recommend this book for those looking for good fantasy with a splash of erotica. The erotic scenes are frequent, detailed, and make up 50% of the book. The passion between Scarlata and Justin managed to be hot but not trashy. It was refreshing not to deal with body insecurities or emotional scars. They behaved like secure adults. I give this one a solid 4 stars. I will read more of this series as it becomes available.
Stephanie Julian has an incredible way with words - the scenes, characters and emotions just fly off the page, whirling around you, eveloping you like her fairy's wings. A great, great read!
This was a short quick read. I don't read a lot of stories with magical creatures, but this one was pretty good. Justin Johannson knows there are things in this world that defy explanation and he's determined to prove the existance of magic. He never expected to find everything he was searching for in his bed. But when he wakes in a secluded cabin to find a naked redhead with wings and an attitude making love to him, well. Justin's more than willing to give the woman anything she wants. Scarlata is convinced Justin wants only to capture her for scientific study, which is so not going to happen. The foolish man needs to be taught a lesson to leave her and all magical creatures in peace. Scarlata never expected to want to touch him, to seduce him, just once. The sex scenes were hot. This is my first time reading this author this book was very well written with no errors in spelling or grammar. This is also the first book in a new series to me and I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
I never could write fantasy fiction myself. Too much gritty realism in all those crime thrillers, I guess, and even my (cyberpunk) science fiction has a realist edge. But I can appreciate what is good and bad in fantasy fiction's manipulation of symbolism and myth. While much less dark (it is a romantic fantasy after all) it is for me evocative of Slaughterhouse 5 and Clive Barker's Weaveworld. Why? Because this novel also works well through its shifts from the concrete to the fantastic worlds - and through its juxtaposition of the two. If fantasy is the escape from the mundane and alter ego to the mundane, this novel provides the route map like Alice into the looking glass or Dorothy to Oz. When you've had enough of corrupt cops, fascists, football hooligans, corporate gangsters, bent politicians, computer hackers, terrorists, flawed antiheroes and the usual stuff I write about, this book is the perfect anti-dote - and a very good read.
I'm not sure if this is considered romantica or erotica, but I guess it doesn't matter. It's paranormal (which I love) but with a whole new lore than I've read. It was short and entertaining and a little far fetched. (I know...It is 'paranormal'....LOL)
Scarlata, a folletti (fairy with wings) Justin, a human researcher.....
He's invading her territory... She's enamoured by him....and he's completely smitten with her....and there is LOTS of sex in this 124 page ebook!!! As the plot started to develop I found myself really rooting for this couple.
Justin has been trying to prove the existence of mythical creatures for years. One night he discovers a winged women- Scarlata - in his bed. His fantasy come true but Scarlata who is a Folletta, a race of Etrusean Fata believes he has evil intentions. So, to begin with her plan and his don't exactly mesh.
Seduced by Magic is a fun enjoyable story. The mixture of fantasy, magic and the erotic is just right. A delectable and steamy read. I really liked the heroine Scarlata. Stephanie Julian is created an intriguing world. I look forward to checking out the rest of the series.
This story has surprises throughput and leaves you wanting to know what will happen next. Especially since the bad guys have disappeared and there are no clues where they might be. Magic and mayhem in the world and even the gods don't know what's coming.
Justin has always been fascinated with the paranormal, his father used to tell his stories when he was a child and he can't help feel that there is some truth to them. But being seemingly the only man who believes in fairies isn't easy and he has been searching for evidence of their existence for years. But he may have got more then he bargained for when he has a strange erotic dream about a beautiful red haired woman with pink fairy wings...
A man who believe in fairies? Doesn't sound too promising; however, if all guys who believe in fairies are as great as Justin then bring 'em on! He was intelligent, hot and funny and I can't blame Scarlata (or Scary to her friends) for falling for him. The chemistry between the two was sizzling, and they literally couldn't keep their hands of each other, which means it is lucky for them that sex creates magical energy! Being chased through the woods by mad men with guns? Stop for a quick hot shag and you are all set! Not that I minded; although there is a lot of sex in this book it didn't feel like you were stumbling from one sex scene to the other with a flimsy plot holding it up inbetween.
This book also introduces you to the Etruscan pantheon and fairytales with all the paranormal beings that come with it and has started building up an interesting new world where all the god, godesses and mythological creatures that you have heard about stand a good chance of walking amongst us. This large and potentially complex world sets you up for a lot of future possibilities in the following books and I can't wait to read more!
No...just no. This could have been a really great story, but NOOOO...it had to start, and generally be saturated with sex. Now - don't get me wrong. I love sex in stories, when it's plot-driven. And well-written. There is a way to write sex scenes that are actually sexy...seductive. After reading through an interesting glossary at the start of the book, I thought - "Wow.There will actually be some Etruscan mythology here, mixed with the sex, magic, etc...." All I got from the first pages of this was a big fat porn 'dream' - a twisted Italian fairy with pink wings on top of a guy...somewhere in the American South(?) I thought - shouldn't this lil' pink ho be attacking guys in Northern Italy instead of North Carolina, Alabama...wherever? I HATE when authors devolve to using words/phrases like the c-words, and the p-word. Really? C'mon - you're writers, for Pete's sake. At least try to be more creative with the descriptions of sex and body parts. (Note that I'm speaking of the writers - not the words that may be spoken by some of the characters...which was also pretty crass here, by the way). DNF. BARF! (I must admit that I like the book covers of the series though - lol)
Scarlatta, a local fairy, sneaks into Justin's cabin to kill him because he is trying to find and expose her people. But he's just SOOOOO gorgeous that she has to have sex with him first, etc.
It took me days to get through this one because it was so boring. I also really disliked the Justin character, who at one point intentionally put Scarlatta in danger because that was preferable to letting her leave him.
If your looking for an erotic novella with lots of explicit sex & a little bit of story then this is the book for you. I like to read something like this every once and a while. Quick read to get you hot.
Very unique magical creatures I might say and the smexyness is just H.O.T. I love love the book and I think I need to read more from the following book series.
