Aneeqah | 322 comments How do can you have 94 books checked out?! How long can you check out library books at you library for?

message 552: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments I've got 50 checked out.

message 553: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I think my library only allows us to check out 30 books. Oh the jealousy!

Shay | 923 comments Sashana wrote: "I think my library only allows us to check out 30 books. Oh the jealousy!"

Mine is only 50 per patron. But, my husband lets me use his account. Those are only the "real" books- they also let you check out an additional 35 ebooks per person.

We have a 3 week check out, you can renew 3 times for non- New Release books. So, 12 weeks. Plus I check out quite a few paperbacks which aren't listed by title. So you can't request them and there are no late fees and they do not freeze your priviledges for 10 days after it's due. So, I can keep them an extra 40 days. (12 weeks= 84 days+ 40 days= 124 days, so about 4 months) I do return some unread- don't feel like reading them at the time or at all.

message 555: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments Oh, and a few are kids books. Which, even if they're 100-150 pages, I don't count on challenges. You know, the kind of books in between a chapter book and a YA book. If I can read it in under an hour, I figure it's too much of a kid's book to count. So, I probably read another 100-200 of those a year- mostly from the library. My son does not like to reread books so I rarely buy those books unless I think I can hand it down to another kid in the house.

Karen (EarthAngel2911) (karens_923) | 119 comments I have 5 checked out. All have been Book Club reads at one point or another (trying to catch up!):

Sans I hope your library isn't anything like mine. I'll request 10 books and they'll all come in on the same day. ~_~

message 562: by Sashana (new)

Sashana That would suck, especially since I take the bus. I don't think they'll come all at once because I can see my position. I have to wait for 177 people to read Maine by J. Courtney Sullivan. Some of the others have long waiting times too.

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Finally got a library card again. It takes awhile to get everything going after you move. Since I can only check out three things on my first day, here is what I got...

Where She Went (If I Stay, #2) by Gayle Forman The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver The Serpent Bride (Darkglass Mountain, #1) by Sara Douglass

message 568: by Salem (new)

Salem Just got Beauty Queens by Libba Bray and Something Borrowed (Darcy & Rachel, #1) by Emily Giffin on audiobook. Not a fan of Something Borrowed so far, but I think it's mostly the narrator. The voice doesn't match the character in my opinion.

I loved it too! I think it's one of Kinsella's best :)

message 574: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Agreed. I like her stand alones better than I like the Shopohlic series. The Undomestic Goddess and Twenties Girl are equally funny.

I liked The Girl Who Chased the Moon a lot, and The Sugar Queen was good, but I really loved Garden Spells. GS was her first book - maybe that's why it struck me so positively, but they're all really good.

I know what you mean about that request button. I always try to control myself by reminding myself that I have to take all these books on the bus with me. It helps.

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Has everyone ever had a book/movie placed on their account that they did NOT check out?

I have a movie on my account that I in no way checked out. For one, I don't watch movies and if I do it is not from the library. For two, the movie is Brewster's Millions. Sooo not my type. For three, I am the only one in my family that has a library card and the only one that uses it. I am going up there today to get it removed and ask for a different library card.

I just wanted to know if this had happened to anyone else before!

message 592: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 253 comments Rachel, you didn't have to pay for it, I hope?!
I've only once had a book checked out to me that I didn't request, and it was instead of a book that they had notified me was ready & waiting for me on the hold shelf. There was no problem getting it removed immediately, but the book that was supposed to be there was nowhere in sight, so I had to request it again.

message 593: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Nope. But could call on changing it, Rachel.

message 595: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments No, I did not have to pay for it. He was like lets go see if it is on the shelf. I was like it better be! Lol. It was and they removed it. They had no explanation as to why it was on my account.

New library card in hand now. What sucks is all my book requests have been erased. Instead of being number 14 for the new I am Number Four book, I am now 35. :(

message 596: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Apple Turnover Murder...that made me laugh a little, BJ Rose. I wonder if someone actually gets murdered over an apple turnover. ;)

You're talking about The Power of Six right? I had to buy it [there was no way my library was ever going to get it, plus Amazon has it on sale for $9], but it was really good! Sorry about the change =(. It's defiantly worth the wait though!
