Surprisingly, I haven't read any of those. I do own Out of Oz though. I need to add a few of those to my TBR shelf, like The Night Circus and Down These Strange Streets. They look good!

message 757: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Picked up on CDs: Natural Born Charmer (Chicago Stars, #7) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips . I've read it before, and loved it. It has a major character named April, so I needed it for an upcoming challenge. Thought I'd use my ears on this re-read. I hope it still holds up.

Also received War Horse (War Horse, #1) by Michael Morpurgo on downloadable Over Drive Audio - since I'm in the "Man's Best Friend" challenge. I hope it isn't too sad for me.

Also needed a "Y" author, and couldn't get into Witchling (Otherworld / Sisters of the Moon #1) by Yasmine Galenorn - but thought I'd give the author's Ghost of a Chance (A Chintz 'n China Mystery, #1) by Yasmine Galenorn a try and picked that up in paperback after ordering it via inter-library transfer.

message 763: by Abby (new)

Abby | 77 comments Its sad that I don't use the libraries anymore... The libraries here don't have what I like... They carry more contemporary and historical stuff then any PNR or UF....

message 764: by Abby (new)

Abby | 77 comments Lucky... Wish mine was like that lol

message 765: by Desperado (last edited Apr 12, 2012 07:00AM) (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 27 comments My library is very lacking when it comes to PNR/ER. It does have a great selection of HR, CR, UF & YA. ESPECIALLY YA. Maybe it's because we have a whole library dedicated to young readers (Imaginon) but when I look through Wowbrary every Tuesday, the libraries here have already ordered YA books that don't come out until June.

I picked up
Rapture in Death (In Death, #4) by J.D. Robb & The Shape of Desire (A Shifting Circle Novel) by Sharon Shinn
from the library on Tuesday. I haven't been going to the library much lately. I'm being bombarded with class/homework this month, so it's more convenient to cling to my Kindle.

message 766: by Sashana (new)

Sashana My library is very touch and go. Sometimes they have what I want, other times not. They usually do have the adult NY Times bestsellers but they usually neglect their YA readers.

message 767: by Sashana (new)

Sashana It's pretty sad that people are still banning books.

message 768: by Abby (new)

Abby | 77 comments Kyle ( Rebel Leader) wrote: "Same with my library, Sashana. Sometimes I have to order books from libraries far away. Usually I buy my books, either in stores, or in thrift shops or at yard sales. I find thrift stores have a be..."

Seriously? They banned them??? I don't think I've heard about that happening here . I'm purely digital now so I usually get mine at store websites if they're a good price, the all romance site , or from friends that already have them lol.

message 769: by Jessica-Robyn (new)

Jessica-Robyn | 69 comments I'm lucky to have never had to deal with a banning before, but the fact that people still think it's okay to do that is incredibly frustrating. It's like saying, I can expose myself to these things on TV, in theatres, or on the Internet, but I can't be in charge of what I'm reading because someone else thinks I shouldn't be able too. Gah!

On another note, I'm hoping that my library will try to get more Australian YA authors. They have a lot of YA in general but the selves are pretty dominated by North American writers.

message 770: by Jessica-Robyn (last edited Apr 13, 2012 03:04AM) (new)

Jessica-Robyn | 69 comments I get all my books from the library and it is frustrating trying to get my hands on rarer books. Especially having to request things that get put on lower priority just because it hasn't been printed in Canada or the US, despite being really good quality.

But in the mean time, Check Out:
Fruits Basket, Vol. 13 (Fruits Basket, #13) by Natsuki Takaya Saving June by Hannah Harrington Confessions of a Shopaholic (Shopaholic, #1) by Sophie Kinsella Here Lies Bridget by Paige Harbison As I Wake by Elizabeth Scott ... The Illusion of Life Disney Animation by Frank Thomas = rivals a encyclopedia in weight.

On my way home from the library while feeling like I was dislocating my shoulder from my neck (my bag was so heavy, so very unexpectedly heavy), I sincerely wished I owned a wagon. How awesome would that be?

"I'm just walking to the library with my wagon!"

This needs to happen. *-*

Yeah. It seems that a lot of people weren't that thrilled with it.

Jessica-Robyn | 69 comments Such a conscience! I just saw Jay Asher in person today (nice guy) and yeah I'm another one of those people that love, love Thirteen Reasons Why. BUT I can completely see why people might not get into it or not enjoy it. It's not a crowd pleaser, and there are a lot of individual moments that a reader is either going to love it for, or hate it for.

Yeah it was! He was there with two other YA authors, Carrie Mac and Hiromi Goto. I'm just about to start adding there books to my list since I wasn't familiar with them, (Hiromi Goto has gone straight to the top of my list.) Small group, really fun, got a free t-shirt.

message 788: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments I didn't pick it up, obviously, but on Friday my library account changed to reflect that copies of Insurgent (Divergent, #2) by Veronica Roth are on their way from the main processing place to the individual library branches. I hope that my copy is being routed from one of the "good" branches. Some of them process, resend, and have them on the shelves on the release date.

message 789: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Woohoo! Mine is in processing too. I am number 2 and there are 20 copies. Can't wait! :)

message 790: by Sashana (new)

Don't forget to request Bitterblue too!

Shay | 923 comments Sashana wrote: "My library doesn't have a copy but I suggested that they buy it. Fingers crossed.

I really think that the librarians should monitor GR- like the most popular books by date- you can do it month by month or yearly. http://www.goodreads.com/book/popular...

The library really should keep up with what people really want to read. My library just ordered The Immortal Rules last Thursday. It's top 3 for April, but no one ordered it until then. Out of touch, I guess.

message 792: by Sashana (new)

Sashana These are the latest YA books that my library bought (view spoiler). Really slim pickings. I don't even think any of them were published in 2012. I don't live in a small town and my library system is not small so I don't know what the problem is. I'm going to post the GR popular list on their Facebook page and call the Main library branch to make the suggestion. I wish more of my friends used the library system, I could have more people calling in to complain/suggest.

Oh I did! I'm number 2 for that one too. I also requested Thumped (Bumped, #2) by Megan McCafferty . I am number 3 for that.

message 794: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments Sashana- you're in a Catch-22 situation. Probably more people don't use the library because they don't have any good stuff. Current stuff. Sounds like a group of people need to go to the library board/librarian and make suggestions. Especially general suggestions like buying a mix of some popular books on GR. I wonder if you have a book snob somewhere in your library system. Now, I'm a sort of snob- I get so angry about the massive amounts of DVD's they buy when they aren't buying a lot of books. But, I think that a library should have books people want to read- even if the PTB at the library think those books are "crap".

message 795: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kielianne) | 940 comments Since my local library is closed for a month while they move in to the newly built location, I had to stock up a bit lol

They renovated our library when I was a kid. They suspended borrowing limits- as long as you were a patron in good standing for "x" years, you could take as many as you wanted. That way they didn't have to store them.

Mine is like that as well, they were advertising all over the place for people to come and take out books (so they'd have less to pack, lol).

I can handle a month, especially since I have literally tons of books of my own at home that I have yet to read. Gives me some incentive to get reading those.

message 799: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments Kirsten, I hope you were lucky enough to scoop up some new releases for a month.

Kirsten (kielianne) | 940 comments Shay wrote: "Kirsten, I hope you were lucky enough to scoop up some new releases for a month."

Not really, but that isn't anything new. I live in a fairly small city where the library gets one (or if we are super lucky) two copies of new releases. Then you have to sit on a waiting list for what seems like forever in order to even physically touch those books... :S
