Aimie (aim4theneck) | 13 comments I'm a huge Outlander fan and having read them all over and over again, I decided to finally jump the boat and try to read some Lord John and borrowing this > Lord John and the Hand of Devils by Diana Gabaldon < even though after reading An Echo in the Bone, I can't stand the guy. LOL.

How are you liking the Wicked Series?
I loved the writing of the first book but at the time I tried to read it I was too young to really get into the story and had to stop half way through. Thinking of picking it back up but I haven't heard much about the other books in the series!

message 506: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments I didn't like the Wicked series. Although, I only read the first book. I thought it was boring and overly long. I don't like the books it's based upon either, so maybe that's part of the problem.

message 507: by BJ Rose (new)

message 509: by Sashana (last edited Jul 19, 2011 03:27PM) (new)

Sashana Jennifer, you have very awesome taste in books. North of Beautiful and Willow were both great IMO. The Summer I Turned Pretty was also good. I think I would read every single book you requested if given the chance.

message 510: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Reeves (barefootdokusha) | 0 comments I don't think I'm ever going to get through my to-read list. I keep finding books but I'm limited to what is at the library, which isn't many of them. If I could use PayPal on Amazon (I have a Kindle) I'd be able to find more of the books. I am in love with this site! I even created my son an account on here today to start keeping track of his books :) I can't wait for libraries to be able to use Kindles.

message 511: by Sarah (new)

Wicked is the best book of the series. Son of a witch and Lion among men are just boring. I would suggest you try to read wicked again. It is an amazing book but I would skip the other two because they aren´t really anything special.

message 513: by Dani (last edited Jul 21, 2011 02:03PM) (new)

Dani (dani_duda25) | 26 comments I currently have checked out The Dressmaker by Posie Graeme-Evans Bridget Jones's Diary (Bridget Jones, #1) by Helen Fielding Flawless (Pretty Little Liars, #2) by Sara Shepard Queen of Swords (Wilderness, #5) by Sara Donati The Nobodies Album by Carolyn Parkhurst

I currently added to my stack of library books Beauty Queens by Libba Bray Abandon (Abandon Trilogy #1) by Meg Cabot The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (Millennium, #3) by Stieg Larsson

message 514: by Jessica-Robyn (new)

Jessica-Robyn | 69 comments Thanks Danielle, I'll definitely keep that in mind! It is great to get the warning ahead of time, I always wondered why Wicked got so much attention instead of the series overall.
I will have to go back though and find Wicked when I have the time!

message 515: by Dani (new)

Dani (dani_duda25) | 26 comments Your welcome!!! People had told me also not to read them but I did then I realized why they told me not to bother with them.

I don't think many people on Goodreads will finish their TBR. Sad but true, it's just so nice to keep adding more and more books. Nothing wrong with lots of options to choose from though.

I LOVED Incarceron! It's a bit beginning at first, but you have to bear with it. Have fun with it! =)

message 525: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 253 comments Enjoy that gift card, Jennifer!!

Picked up at the library:
Thursdays At Eight by Debbie Macomber - Cassidy's Kids (Maitland Maternity 2) by Tara Taylor Quinn - Stardust by Neil Gaiman - Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1) by Beth Revis - How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming by Mike Brown

Reading 'Pluto' right now and enjoying it - it's written by an astronomer who was actually looking for a 10th planet.

I have also read that one already. Pretty little liars jumps around from each girl so it can get a little confusing but i really enjoyed it and now i have the second book in the series on my tbr list.

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 253 comments @ Sashana & Aneeqah - I'm about halfway through Across the Universe and I'm afraid the jury is still out. I'm not the greatest fan of 1st-person books, but this alternates between 1st-person telling by the two major characters, which was a little confusing at first but works well (one chapter is told by Amy, the next by Elder, etc). That said, tho, it just hasn't really grabbed me - maybe that will still come. She took a long time setting up the world of the spaceship, and things are starting to happen.

message 533: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Thanks for the update, BJ Rose. Believe it or not I'm still on page 20. Kudos to you for getting this far and still going.

Thanks for the updates you two! I think I will still try it. Maybe we should do it as a Buddy Read, so we all can have support to read it! :D Good luck you two, and keep us updated!

message 535: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'd be down for a buddy read. I think I'd be more motivated to finish.

message 536: by Aneeqah (last edited Jul 23, 2011 08:05AM) (new)

Aneeqah | 322 comments I'll post it on the Read it With Me topic, and see if anybody would like to read it with us! =) When do you think we should start?

message 537: by Sashana (last edited Jul 23, 2011 11:16AM) (new)

Sashana Okay. I think I'd be able to start by Tuesday. How about you?

message 538: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 253 comments Finished Across the Universe and it did get better, altho it doesn't rank up there with favorite sci-fi reads. It's her debut book (I think), so if she continues the series, it should just get better. I ended up giving it 3* even tho some things really bothered me. I read the reviews after I finished it, and many people really loved it, so enjoy your read, Aneeqah & Sashana! Would love to know what you think of it!!

Thank you for your thoughts! The reviews that I've read are saying it's an absolutely terrible book, but from the synopsis and what you are saying, it doesn't seem terrible! I will defiantly let you know what I think!

Sashana wrote: "Okay. I think I'd be able to start by Tuesday. How about you?"

Sure, I'm fine with that! Do you mind setting up a discussion thread for us?

Sashana No prob. I'll set it up later and PM you the link.

message 541: by Jessica-Robyn (new)

Jessica-Robyn | 69 comments I am on such a graphic novel binge and this library haul only sort of proves that.
Scott Pilgrim vs The Universe (Scott Pilgrim, #5) by Bryan Lee O'Malley Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour (Scott Pilgrim, #6) by Bryan Lee O'Malley Once a Witch (Witch, #1) by Carolyn MacCullough Fruits Basket, Volume 12 by Natsuki Takaya The Complete Essex County by Jeff Lemire

I'm so excited to be finally completely read the Scott Pilgrim series!
While browsing I also came across Essex County which is another graphic novel that I've never seen before but it has this very unique art style and a seriously amazing cover.

Jessica-Robyn | 69 comments Graphic novel wise, there are a lot of really great ones out there, but it's all about choosing a genre and art style you find appealing. Or as I do, randomly picking up anything within arms reach that looks pretty. :D I definitely recommend the medium.

The Greater Journey Americans in Paris by David McCullough October Fest (Murder-by-Month Mystery #6) by Jess Lourey Before Versailles A Novel of Louis XIV by Karleen Koen Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles by Margaret George

I actually own a copy of Mary Queen of Scotland, but it's my mother's copy. (Who's passed away) So, I borrowed it from the library so my copy doesn't get destroyed by the children.
