25.5 A. Science Fiction: Among the Barons by Margaret Peterson Haddix 208 pages

B. Fantasy: Fablehaven: Rise of the Evening Star by Brandon Mull 456 pages

C. I really enjoyed this book in the series. It was full of lots of twists and turns and I really love where the story is going. I love science fiction because I love seeing our world in a new, interesting way.

This book was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. This book had me on the edge of my seat and for most of it, I couldn't put it down. I love fantasy because I love being able to read about things that couldn't happen in everyday life. It takes me to a whole other world, which is fascinating.

Leigh Ann (leighannflyingonsilverwings) 25.5 - Helen's Task - Share the Summer Love ~

My favorite genre is Paranormal Romance, so I readEmbraced By Darkness. I love PR becasue it's a totally different world and you can lose yourself in your book. I love the Riley Jensen series by Keri Arthur because Riley is such a strong female.

My other favorite genre is Mystery, so I read The Girl Who Played with Fire. I love the thrill of the chase and wondering how the book is going to end and "who done it". This series is really good, and again has a very strong female protagonist, which I love.

** I'd like to claim a 750+ BBT for The Girl Who Played with Fire. The copy I have has 756 pages, although the GR link is not showing that many.

For this task we will find out if this saying is true when in comes to reading preferences. Go to the individual page for the last book you gave a 5 star rating to (i.e. if the last book you rated 5 stars was The Help by Kathryn Stockett you would go to this page The Help). Scroll down to the section for other reviews and click on the link for 5 stars...then click on the link to organize the list by date. Once you do that you will need to click on page 6,7, or 8 (if the book you use does not have that many pages of 5 stars use page 1-3) and select a person. Visit that persons profile and select another book (one that you haven't read before) that they gave 5 stars to and that will be the book you need to read for this challenge task.
The last book I gave 5* , before the challenge started, was Rebel Angels. Eva was the 1st person on page 7 so I picked her. She also gave 5* to Uglies, so that is what I picked

15.3 Books and Blogs

I read Kunsten at dø by Anna Grue

The blog link: http://bogsider.blogspot.com/2009/09/...

Brief review: The book is the third in a series, where I haven't read the first two (I won this book in a book contest), but I could still manage read this book independently. There are a LOT of Scandinavian female crime authors popping up in these years, but Anna Grue is definitely one of the better. The book revolves around a reality show called "The Murderer Hunt" where 8 celebrities are isolated on an island - with cameras etc. Each week the tv-viewers vote someone off the show - this person is then to be "murdered" and the show revolves around detective trying to solve the mystery. Of course the plot takes a turn - not entirely unexpected but still managed to keep me interested and entertained.

Petra I completed Task 20.6 (List Maker; min. 300 pgs) by reading Between, Georgia by Joshilyn Jackson (320 pgs).

I think it's a Must Read for light, entertaining summer reading.
This is an enjoyable story of the past meeting the present and coming to terms with everything & deciding on what's important in one's life.
This story could have been a bit shorter; it did drag a bit in the middle, but despite that I enjoyed this book and it's zany characters.

20 POINT TASK
20.6 - Supporting Goodreads Authors - Nicole CA's Task - List Maker
Must-Read lists abound. Let's create our own! For this task, read a book that is at least 300 pages and tell us whether it is a must-read or not and why.
The Song of the Lark, Willa Cather (424 pp).

I can't say that I think this particular Cather is a must-read. I've enjoyed everything I've written by her, and while Lark starts out powerfully, I felt that somewhere around the halfway point the story and writing both fell off. Cather was great at writing very detailed descriptions of character's mannerisms and non-verbal dialogue, but as the protagonist here got older it seemed Cather's descriptions began to pale in comparison. Not a must-read when compared to other Cather titles, but an okay read nonetheless.

20.7 Villain's POV....

The Butcher Boy by Patrick McCabe
4 stars

This bizarre story is told, in first person, by Francis. He is a child, who becomes a murderer, after life defeats him one too many times, and he develops schizophrenia. The combination is lethal. Written in stream of consciousness style, with whole paragraphs lacking punctuation, I had a hard time getting into the rhythm of the writing, but once I caught on to the flow, I became totally involved in
the story. A challenging read all around, but well worth it. Very unique and sinister. I rented the movie from Netflix this weekend, so I'm subjecting myself to it again.

A. a book about Abraham Lincoln (or his wife Mary Todd Lincoln

I read The Insanity File: The Case of Mary Todd Lincoln by Mark E. Neely Jr.
Very, very lame book. I thought it would be interesting - I was wrong. The theory here was that the authors had access to papers saved by Robert Lincoln about having her declared insane that would shed more light on the whole situation. As discussed in this book, though, the papers didn't clarify anything.

The primary characteristics of an eleven are: high spiritual plane, intuitive, and an idealist. The main character in the book, Brooklyn Wainwright, was raised on a commune in Northern California and she and her family are spiritual in a kind of an offbeat way. In addition, she is an amateur sleuth and her intuition has involved her in several murders. Finally, she is a true idealist, always believing that justice will prevail.

Petra One more down: Task 25.4 (Happy Birthday to Me).

I read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer for my first book.
Page 31 starts with a half sentence (.....the other man, "it is ridiculous to say these Doodlebugs have affected people in any way.")
I used the noun "man" for my second book and read The Case of the Man Who Died Laughing: From the Files of Vish Puri, Most Private Investigator.

I enjoyed both books.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society was a touching look of people banding together in difficult times and new friendships arising through caring and understanding. It's a post-WW2 story that is very touching.
The Case of The Man Who Died Lauging is a humerous detective story set in India and featuring Vish Puri, India's Most Private Detective.

The Well and the Mine by Gin Phillips

My Review:
This was a very readable first novel about a mining family in the 1930s. The plot surrounds the mystery of a baby thrown into a well, and two sisters' efforts to find out who did it. I found this to be an enjoyable insight into the hard life of miners during this time, though a little slow at time, and I would recommend this book. I gave it three stars.

Leigh Ann (leighannflyingonsilverwings) Thanks Donna Jo! This is my first challenge and I'm really working hard to finish. I'll probably never do it again though. The only reason I've had this much time is because the kids are out of school. When they go back I'll be running, running, running. I've really enjoyed the challenge though and will definately be doing the Fall Challenge!
