Task 25.5, favorite genres

I finished 25.5. I love lots of different genres so I picked two of many I could pick! The first one I picked was young adult. I like reading young adult books so I can help my kids find good books to read as they get older. The book I read was This World We Live In. This book was the third book in a series about a meteor hitting the moon and the effect it has on the Earth. It wasn't my favorite books of the series, but I liked it. It can be an uncomfortable book to read, but I think it's a good reminder about how we should be prepared for emergencies.

I also like romantic, suspense books. I like to read romance, but I like romance where the characters have challenges to face and suspense books usually have other stuff going on. For this genre I read A Bid For Love. I gave it three stars. It was good, but a little predictable. I haven't decided if I will read the rest of the series or not.

Witch on the Water by Christine & Ethan Rose *GoodReads Authors*

15.3 - Books And Blogs

The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker by Leanna Renee Hieber *GoodReads Author*

I found this book from one of my favorite author's blogs - http://www.christineandethanrose.com/...

And here is my review of it. I gave it five stars.

I just loved this book. It was as if it were written just for me. I think if I ever commissioned an author to write a novel for me, it would probably come out to be pretty close to this. I was so drawn in even from the first couple pages. The dark streets of Victorian-era London are just so enticing. I was into this book from the beginning, but then I was really into it when Professor Alexi came into it. It was as though he was a piece of my own soul.

The supernatural plot line was a little confusing. I wasn't sure of the exact motives behind the greater forces at work. I'm hoping that more will be explained in the second book. I also feel like I should have paid better attention at the very beginning when the prophecy was given, as that is a key part of the book.

I loved the struggles with forbidden love, duty/destiny vs. personal pursuits, and dealing with friends who won't believe you even when the fate of the world rests on it

Repost for post 2415 - I apologize, I thought I included enough of an explanation.

25.5 Share the Summer Love
My current favorite genre is romantic thrillers, so I read Return to Me by Christy Reece. I read it mainly because it is the second in a series, but it was an interesting story about human trafficking of children and it reconnected with familiar characters. I enjoyed it because it was a very fast paced story with a romance worked into the plot. I like romantic thrillers because it includes a mystery/crime story with a more human element to it wiht the romance.

My other favorite genre (I wouldn't put it as second because they pretty much tie) is detective/mysteries. I read S is for Silence by Sue Grafton, which definitely fit the genre. I was guessing till the end about the murderer, and I really liked how she included memories from other characters. I enjoy detective/mysteries because a good author (like Sue Grafton) will keep you guessing till the end of the book and it makes you want to keep reading.

10.2: The ____ Who ___: The Cat Who Went Bananas by Lilian Jackson Braun. First book I read in this series- it kept me entertained during a long flight!

15.3 Books and Blogs: I don't follow any blogs, so I used one that someone else already claimed to direct me. I read At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks. Here is the link to the blog: http://bookreviewsbykatie.blogspot.co...
My review: It was not my favorite Nicholas Sparks book. I seem to be in a slump where I am not really enjoying much of what I read at the moment - nothing is drawing me in. I had an especially tough time getting into this. I didn't really like the character of Lexie - she was whiny and hard to relate to, while Jeremy was overdramatic about everything! Once I got past the first half, the second half really picked up for me, and I was crying by the end.

20.6 (Must Read) - Gorillas in the Mist by Dian_Fossey (1983) 326pp
Why this is a must read: This book is a non-fiction account of the situation of the mountain gorilla and Dian Fosseys' experience of their extinction and the reasons thereof. Extrapolated it also explains much of the loss of habitat and our own diminishing diversity of resources upon this planet. I think it is a must read for a myriad of reasons, although she is not a professional scientist and it is not a book written for this purpose, she does illustrate how ignorance, greed, and the pursuit of money are wrecking the ecosystem. More bluntly put if we don't pay attention we won't have a place to live and breathe if we don't pay attention. This book is a good way to illustrate that.

Sera, I enjoyed the book but it isn't easy to condense into a review. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys a thoroughly well-written book that requires Reader input/thought. This is not a clear, concise, "cozy" book. When you read it, let me know. I'd look forward to any discussions on it.
