Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments lol good, I don't have anything better to do till tomorrow when I can start reading for the March challenges.
At least you got that project done. Now you just have to stay up late enough to post our matches - right?
So any hints on how you are matching us up this time - mentors, opposites, book count, what? Or are you keeping it a secret - either way is good, I am just nosy tonight.

Yes, only until i post the pairing then i can sleep to my hearts content.^.^

Due to the results in the poll we were left with the original way, which is random pairing. Photojim actually did the pairing since he was the one to come up with the choices for this month and volunteered.

I noticed though that a few who signed up for the challenge didn't even get to vote on the poll. So am thinking next month i will omit the original pairing as a selection for the poll.
Either i'll surprise you all with a new method for pairing without a poll, or i'll give some options mentioned here in a poll: PIFM Changes

Gaijinmama | 85 comments Ok, hi Emily

I'm making four recommendations, hopefully you'll like one of them! Two are on your TBR list, two are not.

The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle

The Crowby James O'Barr

Dark Sister by Graham Joyce
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong

Happy Reading!

message 124: by Annie (new)

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hi Katie.
Interesting list - a couple of New Zealand authors there - and not the well-known ones either. Yay!

In the New Zealand young adult theme, I would recommend:
Changeover: A Supernatural Romance by Margaret Mahy or See Ya, Simon by David Hill (if you choose this one, have some tissues ready).

For vaguely paranormal romance style books, I'd recommend:
The Fire Rose or The Serpent's Shadow by Mercedes Lackey.

For straight fantasy, you could try Charles de Lint - maybe The Blue Girl.

Hope you can find something in there you can get, like, and haven't read!
Annie

Annvelwis | 671 comments Barbara :)

I picked out 6 books for you:

1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (young adult)
2. Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye by Victoria Laurie (chick-lit)
3. A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught (historical romance)
4. Lights, Camera...Monsters by Lila Dubois (erotica)
5. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See (historical fiction)
6. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson (mystery)

I hope you'll find something you like :)

Updated: Ok it seems that i only missed you wich is not a comforting thought. I fixed the list for now. Again, am really sorry about missing you.

message 127: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 987 comments Hello Penney,

I've been through your shelves and I've picked out four books for you:

When Darkness Comes by Alexandra Ivy (PNR)
My Fair Mistress: A Novel by Tracy Ann Warren (Historical Romance)
Stray by Rachel Vincent (UF)
In the Forests of the Night by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes (Young Adult)

I hope you find one you want to read out of these. Enjoy and happy reading.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Nairabell, I looked through your shelves and see quite a few PNR. It would be easier to pick for you if you rated books or gave a review of a few. BTW, did you ever visit Wotmania (when it was up and running)? That's the only other place I've seen someone with your name.

Suggestions:
Succubus Dreams by Richelle Meade - Since you read the first two books in the series, you might enjoy the third.
Over Hexed by Vicki Lewis Thompson - I saw that you had one of her 'Nerd' books on your TBR shelf. With your attraction to the PNR genre, I think this might be a better fit. Light and fun.
You Slay Me by Katie McAlister - Straight off your TBR shelf. Again light and fun.
A Girl's Guide to Vampires by Katie McAlister - you have the signed copy and the book on the TBR shelf. What are you waiting for? BTW, I hear book two is much better than one but you need to read one to get there. I bought both but loaned them to my neighbor so haven't gotten to them yet.

And finally,
The Shining by Stephen King - classic sleep with the lights on horror.

Of these, I think you will like the Vicki Lewis Thompson book the best. (Pure guesswork on that one) I also thought I'd throw in a book from left field to round out the choices. If you don't want any of these let me know and I'll make a few new choices.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Rossy, I see that you gave up your spot as Angelique was missed. While that was noble of you, I think you still deserve a book picked just for you. So with your permission, I present my picks for you along with a thank you for your hard work in making this challenge work.

First, because you enjoyed the other 'Real Men' books and you have it on your TBR list, I think you should go ahead and read Real Men Last All Night. You know you like the erotica novella format so why not indulge?

Along the same lines but in a whole book format is Opal Carew's Blush. I think of it as similar to Lacey Alexander's Voyeur which you seemed to enjoy.

Stepping WAY outside your comfort zone, I give you Perdido Street Station by China Miéville and House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. They are SF/UF and mystery/horror respectively. Both are well written and engrossing stories.

Back to comfort land, I finally offer Nerd Gone Wild by Vicki Lewis Thompson. I see that you liked the previous Nerd book quite a bit and this one is my favorite of the series.

If you don't like any of these, sorry, I tried. Thank you again for running this challenge.

message 130: by Amanda A (last edited Mar 01, 2010 07:05AM) (new)

Amanda A | 769 comments Hi Kristine, I hope you'll find something you like out of these:

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
You Slay Me by Katie MacAlister
Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong

If none of these appeal to you, I'll try again. Happy reading!

message 131: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments That was a great idea Photojim, you are so right.
Rossy, you have done a great job with this and should get a recommendation also.

message 132: by Debbie (last edited Mar 01, 2010 07:55AM) (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Hey Carrie, I get to try and pick for you. Since you stated that you don't have all of your books listed yet, let me know if you have read these or don't like these and I will come up something different.
I noticed a lot of paranormal, young adult and historicals on your shelf (those are my favorites also) so I am just going with some of my favorite books.

Young Adult:
Hush, Hush
Jinx
Paranormal Romance:
The Darkest Night (book 1)
Supernatural Romance:
Garden Spells
Truly, Madly
Truly different:
American Gods
6- wow, that is still alot to pick through but that is down from my original list of about 10.
Good luck, I hope you find something that interests you.

message 133: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 987 comments Debbie thank you for your suggestions, I'm going to write them all down. I have an appointment now in a bit and I will pick up one of them when I'm out. They all seem like good books, and there are four that I'm leaning towards.

I will post which book I pick up when I return.

message 134: by booklovinrn (new)

booklovinrn | 346 comments Sherrill,

I have picked several books for you. I hope you find one you can get a hold of and that you are interesed in.

1. Highlander Untamed by Monica McCarty...I noticed you like highlanders. This is the first in a trilogy that I really enjoyed.

2. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon...I know this is on your TBR shelf...all I can say is Why? Why have you not read this series yet. This series is a must read.

3. Say No To Joe? by Lori Foster...This is a good book when you just want a fun, lite read.

4. Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost or The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter...If you are looking for a little PNR fix both are the first in two great series.

message 135: by Kasia (last edited Mar 01, 2010 08:35AM) (new)

Kasia Hi Amber, this is what I came up for you:

1. Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination by Helen Fielding

2. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

3. Welcome to the Real World by Carole Matthews

4. Silk by Alessandro Baricco

If none of these won't work, let me know, I'll try again. Otherwise: enjoy!

message 136: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 1512 comments Angelique,

I have picked a few different books for you to choose from after looking through your shelves. I hope one or more will appeal to you. :)

Fantasy
1. Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings - pure Tolkienesqe fantasy. One of my all time favorite series (this is book 1 of 5).

2. The Mirror of Her Dreams by Stephen R. Donaldson - this is a bit longer book (but only 1 of 2) but starts with a young woman from our time who gets pulled into a different world that needs saved.

Paranormal Romance

3. Shield's Lady by Jayne Ann Krentz - this is an older title (before she started writing PNR under Jayne Castle), but one of my favorites from her (and she is one of my favorite authors). It takes place on another planet and the heroine hires the hero to find a stolen item and gets more than she bargained for when he discovers she could be a potential mate.

4. Heart Mate by Robin D. Owens - this is also on another planet, where those with high levels of flair (magic) run the ruling houses. Also has great cats that can communicate.

5. Derik's Bane by MaryJanice Davidson - this has a bit more humor. A werewolf is sent to California to kill the reincarnation of Morgana le Fay before she can destroy the world. Problem is Sara doesn't know what she is and Derik quite likes her.

6. Summon the Keeper by Tanya Huff - this is more UF, but a fun read. Claire is a keeper (guardian who cleans up when evil breaks through). She and her talking cat, Austin, arrive at a boarding house that has an opening to Hell in the basement and she has to babysit it until she can figure out how to close it. Book it pretty humorous as Hell will talk to itself as it plots.

And finally, one out of left field, a YA mystery.
7. The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin. I've owned this book for a lot longer than I want anyone to know and read it once a year as it is an old favorite. Sam Westing dies and brings together a strange group of heirs that he charges to solve his murder.

VMom (votermom) | 10 comments 44 Mayakda Picks for Becky
Hi Becky! I compared books with you and we have an 80% match! I am going to start following your reviews, if that's ok. :)
I think you will like at least one of these:
What Angels Fear: A Sebastian St. Cyr Mystery - Regency mystery; the hero is a bit too emo in this book but the series gets better as it goes on.
In Milady's Chamber - A regency mystery I would not hesitate to recommend to the vicar. :) I think most Heyer fans would like this one.
The Blackstone Key - Historical mystery/gothic. Intrepid young lady of the 1770s has an adventure on the Plymouth coast. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and language; it hit just the spot when I wanted to escape into history.
Dead Witch Walking - One of my favorite urban fantasy series (you already read my other favorites). Again a series that gets better; a bit like the Dresden Files.

I hope you like them!

Rossy, I think Photojim has a great idea in picking for you too. If I were to pick for you I'd rec Prince of Ice by Emma Holly. Thanks so much for all your work in setting this up!

message 138: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (kebrand0112) Hello BookThumb,

I am going to give you four recommendations. Two are from your To read list.

1. The Time Traveler's Wife

2.Dying Scream

3. As She Climbed Across the Table(This book is short(213 pages) and it was really enjoyable. Also, it is not on Kindle, sorry!)

4. Devil's Bride

If none of those interest you at the moment, let me know. I will pick something else. Happy reading.

message 139: by Becky (new)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1573 comments Diane, I looked over your reading list and picked a few that I hope you'll like.

Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn- This is the first book in a mystery/romance series set in Victorian England. It's currently out in trade paperback, but there are also used mass market paperback copies available on Amazon.

The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong- I see that you like Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. This is the first of a YA trilogy set in the same world.

A Rake's Reform by Cindy Holbrook- This one is out of print but very worth tracking down. Amazon has some available used at a reasonable price. Holbrook's wit reminds me a bit of Jennifer Crusie, but in an historical setting.

The Fire Rose by Mercedes Lackey- A Beauty and the Beast tale. I noticed another book in the series in your TBR list, so I thought I'd suggest this one. It's the first in the series.

I hope you enjoy the suggestions!

message 140: by Pollyanna (last edited Mar 01, 2010 10:22AM) (new)

Pollyanna (polly8) | 300 comments Sara

Here are my choices for you I hope you like them.

I noticed that a big shelf on yours is historical romance so I thought you might like The Other Boleyn Girl or Jane Eyre which is on your TBR list.

Also for sci-fi fantasy a really good book is The Host and also Uglies for sci-fi/dystopian.

Let me know if you are not interested in any of these :)

message 141: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 295 comments Hey Beth,

You have some great series on your bookshelf. My picks for you are similar to the ones you have rated pretty high. They are:

1. Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh

2. Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning

Enjoy!

NewMoonGirl (Hazel) (newmoongirl88) | 16 comments Hey Karolina :)

Here are my reading recommendations for you, I hope you can find something out of the 6 that you think you will like.

Kissed by an Angel - by Elizabeth Chandler

Shiver - by Maggie Stiefvater

My Love Lies Bleeding - by Alyxandra Harvey

The Splendor Falls - by Rosemary Clement-Moore

Marked (House of Night) - by P.C Cast

Wicked Lovely - by Melissa Marr

Let me know if you don't fancy any of them & I will try again :)

message 146: by Penney (last edited Mar 01, 2010 12:57PM) (new)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Hi BJ Rose,
I hope you enjoy these recommendations, they are all 5 stars on my lists.

1. Highland Dragon by Kimberly Killion - (this is an historical romance and actually has nothing to do with dragons)

2. Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost- not your typical PNR as far as I'm concerned

3. Dragon Actually by G.A. Aiken - (also PNR, this one with a dragon and very funny. Its the first in a series that I think gets funnier with each book.)

4. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden - (It engulfs you in an entirely different culture and in my opinion should be considered a modern classic.)

I really hope you enjoy!

Carrie,
Thanks for the recommendations. I think I'll start with When Darkness Comes. Thats a series that keeps popping up on my radar, it looks like now's the time to give it a try. I'll let you know how it turns out. :)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Dalene - I took a look at your TBR pile, as well as books complete and have 4 recommendations for you - 2 from your TBR and 2 by authors that I hope you like
Deanna

Fantasy Lover - Sherrilyn Kenyon

Mistress of the Art of Death - Ariana Franklin

Because you like Debbie Macomber, and i've read all the Cedar Cove books, this series reminds me of them sort of:
Vision in White - Nora Roberts

Since you also like Jodi Picoult:
The Secret Life Of CeeCee Wilkes - Diane Chamberlin

message 149: by Ez (new)

Ez (ezrah-rah) | 387 comments Ahrcadia ~(Fhantasie)~, here are my recs for you! I looked at your shelves and thought you might enjoy one of these. If not, since you said you didn't mind, the last one is a book I had planned on recommending that is already on your to-read list...

1. War for the Oaks - Emma Bull (This is one of my favorite books of all time, and definitely my favorite urban fantasy.)
2. Night's Kiss - Amanda Ashley
3. Dark Thirst - Sara Reinke
4. Tempting Danger - Eileen Wilks
5. Beautiful Creatures - Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl (Already on your TBR list.)

War for the Oaks by Emma Bull Night's Kiss (My Night, #1) by Amanda Ashley Dark Thirst (The Brethren #1) by Sara Reinke Tempting Danger (World of the Lupi, #1) by Eileen Wilks [image error]

message 150: by Leah (new)

Leah (leahkarge) Debbie, here are some books I recommend for you. I personally think they are good, so I hope you'll enjoy which ever one you choose:

1. Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead
2. Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon (This is the first book in her Dark-Hunter series, and although it gives a little bit of background info, you really don't have to read it first. And, in that case, the next book is Night Pleasures.)
3. Lover Awakened by J. R. Ward (I noticed that you have the first two books already, and this third one is the best one of the series, in my opinion.)
4. The Warlord Wants Forever by Kresley Cole (This is the first one in her Immortals After Dark series and is part of the anthology Playing Easy to Get, and like with Fantasy Lover, if gives background info and you really don't have to read it first. And, if you don't, A Hunger Like No Other is the next book. If you do want TWWF, then here is a link to it if you don't want to buy Playing Easy to Get: http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images...)
5. The Least Likely Bride by Jane Feather (This is a historical romance.)

I hope you can choose one of these and enjoy it! If you need more suggestions, though, feel free to just send me a message or something :)
