message 54: by Nairabell (new)

Nairabell | 433 comments Just had a thought - I don't mind my book coming from my TBR shelf, but if it's a totally new book for me can they please check it's available from amazon.co.uk? I'd hate to be recommended a book and not be able to get hold of it :(

message 55: by Penney (new)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments I love a good recommendation so I'm in!
Thanks

Gigi | 1149 comments Hi Nairabell,

I've used the US version of this bookseller repeatedly without any problems. They specialize in rare and out-of-print books. The books are usually from other sellers. I love this site! Well, I love them because I can use paypal. LOL

http://www.alibris.co.uk/

message 57: by Nairabell (new)

Nairabell | 433 comments I hadn't heard of them before. I'll definitely take a look. I do tend to use amazon a lot though as I have amazon prime so I one-click and the books with me the next day! :)

message 58: by Gigi (new)

Gigi | 1149 comments Most of the other sellers are other bookstores. Give them a try. I've found almost every out of print book that I couldn't find on amazon on their site. You may not get the book overnight though. I've received books from them from as fast as a few days and to as long as a couple of weeks.

I'll make a note of it, Nairabell. Though i have to agree with Gigi, you should give Alibris a try. I use them quite frequently when i can't find a book on Amazon.

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Valerie, Kim & Penney- I gotcha ladies!

message 61: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 1512 comments I have a question. Does the picker recommend any format of book (kindle, hardback, etc) or is it limited to just paperback? I ask because I don't have a kindle and dislike hardback books.

message 62: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. PB for me too.

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Diane wrote: "I have a question. Does the picker recommend any format of book (kindle, hardback, etc) or is it limited to just paperback? I ask because I don't have a kindle and dislike hardback books."

Only book titles are recommended not the format. You can pretty much get the book on whatever format you can find it that is to your preference, or more convenient.
In the event a book can only be found in a single format, as a courtesy it would be best to warn the person you are picking for.

Reminder: Though we are committed to finish only one book recommended within the month. We can present the person you pick for with more than one choice for them to read.

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Carolyn F. wrote: "PB for me too."

I'll make a note of it, Carolyn.

message 65: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 1512 comments I guess I'm in then. But please, only PB. Thanks!

Done & noted!

message 67: by Penney (new)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Please excuse my ignorance, but does PB mean paperback?

message 68: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 1512 comments Penney - yes, PB means paperback in this context. :)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Diane wrote: "Penney - yes, PB means paperback in this context. :)"

Thanks, and for the record I'm ok with any format and any list (TBR included). It seems as though I have a lot of catching up to do. :)

message 72: by VMom (new)

VMom (votermom) | 10 comments I've never tried anything like this before, and I'd like to try. But since I have ZERO book buying budget, is it ok to ask that the book be available in the county lib? http://catalog.ccls.org/

message 73: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Done!

Mayakda-I'll make a little note of it so whomever picks for you can check if the choices are available there.

message 74: by Gigi (last edited Feb 23, 2010 11:17AM) (new)

Gigi | 1149 comments Rossy,

I'm ok with my picker picking either something entirely new and not on my TBR shelf or something from my TBR shelf. Yayyyyyy! I cant wait.

Ditto what she said. MY TBR is so huge it might be really challenging to find
something that isn't on it! And a lot of my TBRs are not books I own yet, I just mark them if someone recommends.

I made a note of it for you ladies, too.
I'm very much the same when it comes to my TBR shelf.

I think we're almost all in agreement with that it seems. ^.^

message 80: by Arcadia (new)

Arcadia Barrile (braintasiabooks) So am I.

message 81: by Leslie Jane (new)

Leslie Jane Fahrney (lesliejane0302) | 12 comments Me too, most of my TBR pile is for the wish list and a reminder to look for them when I get a job and more money. Now I hit the used book stores and rummage sales

message 82: by Arcadia (new)

Arcadia Barrile (braintasiabooks) I have a separate TBR and wishlist, and they're both fair game.

That is an excellent idea! I think I'll do the same. I like the idea of making that distinction. Frankly,I have so many TBRs on my shelves I really shouldn't buy any more at least till next year...yeah, right. Never Gonna Happen!!

message 86: by Arcadia (new)

Arcadia Barrile (braintasiabooks) LOL. I'm the same. I shouldn't buy more books, but I just can't seem to stop XD

message 87: by Amanda A (new)

Amanda A | 769 comments I'm in! I'm also okay with something on my to-read shelf being picked. It's out of control!

Same for me.

tosca wrote: "I'm in please and thank you and happy for the book to come from wherever :)"

Also open to something that's not on any list I have - enjoyed a book in February's Pick-It-For-Me that I'd never heard of before (and have now ordered its sequel!).

message 89: by BT (new)

BT | 7 comments I'm in! I would prefer a book available on Kindle if possible.

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments FYI- The poll results are finally in for the pairing poll. Hopefully you all had time to vote.
It seems the majority would prefer for the pairing to stay the same and be assigned randomly, so that is what i'll be doing this month. Jim, may implement the mentor method if one or more of you have a very low amount of books in your shelf.

If you have an idea on a pairing method that you would like to see implemented. That is not on the poll, do let us know in this thread: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...

I will be running a poll again next month before the April challenge.
