Britta (macdeath) Amber,
I'll definitely check those out :) They seem really interesting.

Rachel,
You're welcome :3 I had fun looking through your lists. I love all of your different lists :P And I got quite a few books from your lists, so we're all happy!

No worries, and you're not late, I was justy trying to cheer up Photojim saying he was not alone.

But back to the recs, THANKS! They seem great, I'm torn between The Gargoyle and Kushiel's Dart, not sure which I'm gonna go with yet. But I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

message 254: by Nairabell (new)

Nairabell | 433 comments Hi Ari! Here are my recommendations for you, I hope you like them :)

From your TBR shelf there are a couple I would definitely recommend. First up is Seeker by Cate Tiernan. I love the entire Wicca/Sweep series and reread them probably once a year. I couldn't see any others on your TBR, but I would recommend starting with Book of Shadows as the storyline gets pretty complicated in the lead up to Seeker which is 10th (if I remember rightly!).

Also you have Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris on your TBR too - Sookie rules so I'd recommend it. It looks like you enjoyed the Twilight books, so hopefully you'll enjoy Sookie too.

It looks like you have a lot of dystopian literature on your shelves as well, so I think you'll enjoy The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. I read it years ago in school, and it's the kind of book that sticks with you.

Paranormal-wise, I'm pretty confident you'll like Bitten by Kelley Armstrong as you enjoyed her Darkest Powers books. It's more adult in content (I think - I haven't managed to get to the DP books yet) but is a great story. If you're not a fan of werewolves, you can skip ahead to Dime Store Magic (Book 3) which is witches or No Humans Involved (Book 7) which is a necromancer. I'd personally start with Bitten, but then I'm obsessive about reading things in order :)

You also seem to have a lot of books that are now movies/tv shows on your shelves, so I'd recommend either Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman (which is nothing like the movie beyond the absolute basics), White Oleander by Janet Fitch (which is pretty close to the movie, plus usually available cheap as it's an ex-Oprah pick) or The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides (which is far better than the movie).

Last up, you have quite a lot of YA/teen books so I'd recommend The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. I've read the book and seen the movie in the last few weeks. Both rule, though the book is a little better (most are!) as the movie was changed about to be complete by itself and not need a sequel. I'd recommend book first, as I went to the movie halfway through the book and got a bit muddled.

Hope there's something here you like, if not give me a shout and I'll look for something else.

Hi Sara,

Great recs! Thanks for putting so much thought into it. I'm going to go with the Piers Anthony...I've been meaning to read him for years, so this is the perfect opportunity. Will let you know how I go!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I'll be leaving for the studio shortly for about 12 hours. If we could get a list of folks who are still without rec's together tonight around 8:00 EST we could re-match the remaining folks. I normally wouldn't be so proactive, but I really like the books picked for me each month.

Thanks for the recommendations again.

Carolyn F. Sherry - sorry I took so long - I picked books for my picker (sounds kind of gross). I don't have access to your To-Read or already read lists so let me know if you need other choices. I've picked for you:

Midnight's Daughter by Karen Chance Midnight's Daughter (Dorina Basarab, #1) by Karen Chance

or Outlander by Diana Gabaldon Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon .

or Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole Kiss of a Demon King (Immortals After Dark, #7) by Kresley Cole

I'll pick the A Girl's Guide to Vampires. I've already read the Sookie books, but they were before I was on Goodreads and so I'm planning on giving a rating when I re-read them before the next book comes out. I loved them!! Great picks for me!

Hi Katie - reposting for you:
Hi Katie.
Interesting list - a couple of New Zealand authors there - and not the well-known ones either. Yay!

In the New Zealand young adult theme, I would recommend:
Changeover: A Supernatural Romance by Margaret Mahy or See Ya, Simon by David Hill (if you choose this one, have some tissues ready).

For vaguely paranormal romance style books, I'd recommend:
The Fire Rose or The Serpent's Shadow by Mercedes Lackey.

For straight fantasy, you could try Charles de Lint - maybe The Blue Girl.

Hope you can find something in there you can get, like, and haven't read!
Annie

message 278: by Katie (new)

Katie (ktie) Thanks rossy lol I totaly missed that! And thanks to u too annie (a mad hamster) I haven't read any of those so ill give then a try! I really like mercedes lackey but I think I'm going to start with changeover: a paranormal romance, it looks really good!

Thought i'll give you some suggestions before I go to bed, so this is sort of a 'rushed' process. : )

Gabriel's Ghost - You mentioned you enjoy a little sci-fi, so how about a sci-fi romance? If you don't fall for Sully while reading this...

Lord of the Fading Lands - a lovely fantasy romance that you really need to check out

Mr. Perfect - just finished this one today, and it is a great combination of wit, mystery and romance

Hope you will find something that interests you. If not, let me know, and maybe tomorrow, when I'm wide awake, I'll be able to come up with something more.
