Hey Theresa, I picked up The Strange Library by Murakami from a book store about a week ago. It was just published this month in English/the U.S. I haven't started it yet but it's very slim. I believe it was also published in the New Yorker - not sure if that was the entire story or just a bit of it though. Good luck with your challenge!

I'm also reading Murakami, but I skip the short.

I haven't add his essay neither. But I might if some fit my bingo challenge.

Chloé (fullmetalclo) | 573 comments I edited message 55. I forgot to had his most recent novel. So I'll have 11/13 books to read.

message 110: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daphnesm) | 312 comments I am going to start this one off with John Kendrick Bangs. I discovered him this year, and have fallen in love with is witty and strange style. He was an author and satirist of the Victorian period. He created what is called Bangsian Fantasy. He was one of the first authors to either set his fantasy up in the afterlife, or pull famous dead individuals into his story. It's a pretty common trope used now, and he was a master at it.

John Kendrick Bangs 0/11

To read in 2015:
1. A little Book of Christmas
2. Ghosts I Have Met, and Some OthersGhosts I Have Met, and Some Others
3. R. Holmes and Co.: Being the Remarkable Adventures of Raffles Holmes, Esq., Detective and Amateur Cracksman by Birth
4. Coffee and Repartee
5. The Inventions of the Idiot
6. The Autobiography of Methuselah
7. Baron Munchausen: An Account of His Recent Adventures
8. The Genial Idiot: His Views and Reviews
9. Over The Plum Pudding
10. Jack and the Check Book
11. Toppleton's Client: or a Spirit in Exile

Already read in 2014:
1. A House-Boat on the Styx
2. Alice in Blunderland: An Iridescent Dream
3. Pursuit of the Houseboat
4. The Enchanted Type-Writer
5. The Idiot
6. The Water Ghost and Others
7. Mrs. Raffles: Being the Adventures of an Amateur Crackswoman

If I finish up JKB early enough in the year, I'll tackle another writer I think. I love finishing the complete works. When I finish Alexandre Dumas and Plutarch I was high on life for a month. I own the complete works of Voltaire, but it's nearly 50 volumes, and I'm not even a quarter of the way through those yet.

message 126: by Krista (new)

Krista | 70 comments Having just finished The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler, I have been inspired to join this challenge. I am going to read all of Jane Austen. While you don't have to have read them to enjoy Fowler's novel, I think it would have helped. I have only ever read Pride and Prejudice in the past, but that was YEARS ago. So, I will be rereading it this year. I may take a while on the challenge even though it is only seven books, because I have signed up for several challenges and already have the books in place for a few of them.

From what I can find, there appear to be seven novels. I hope that is correct. If someone knows any other than the below, please let me know so I can add it to my list.

0/7

Pride and Prejudice
Sense and Sensibility
Northanger Abbey
Emma
Persuasion
Mansfield Park
Lady Susan

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 2nd selection for Sarah Addison Allen - First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen. Overall, I enjoyed this book. However, I found it very repetitious of the first Waverly novel. I understand some of that had to be explained for new readers, but not all of that was necessary. It was also a slow start. The charm and fantasy finally came through about 1/3 of the way in. Good ending. Worth reading. 3.5 stars

Angelique I've finished my first for this challenge: Agnes Grey

It was a lot easier read than I expected. I started off with a Dutch translation, but when I compared it with the English version I had on my kindle to see if the translation was any good, I discovered that the english was just as readable as the dutch, so I switched to english.

Great work Megan

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 773 comments I just updated message #21 with my finish of The Romanovs: The Final Chapter by Robert K. Massie.

I also updated my Anne Rice list to add her upcoming release, Beauty's Kingdom, a 4th book in her Sleeping Beauty Series. I came across that today and found out that it will be released on April 21, 2015.

Autumn (noxzemagirl007) | 44 comments I haven't officially started this yet. Do I have to reread series I already started, or just finish them to complete the challenge? This will make a big difference as to what I choose to read.
