When You're Not Reading a Cozy
Meg wrote: "I seem to be on a non-cozy roll these days."
I was on a bit of a non-cozy streak myself the last few days:
Nothing But Heart by Holly Jacobs. Short romance story.
Island of Flowers by Nora Roberts. One of her early contemporary romances, before she shifted more towards rom-suspense.
Spellbound by Nora Roberts. An earlier paranormal romance novella of hers. I didn’t set out to read three works of hers this month, but that was the direction my reading took me.
And now I’ve picked up another non-cozy, My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite. The title caught my attention last year, as I started seeing it mentioned all over the place, and I happened to luck onto a copy at the library’s monthly used book sale. As an added bonus, there was an article about the book tucked inside.

Karen— Regarding your ARC of Hideaway... You’ve never read a Nora Roberts before now? I hope you enjoy your first foray into her writing. While I’ve long enjoyed her contemporary and paranormal romances, I especially like her rom-suspense. Some of her books have stuck with me over the years. Come Sundown is one I’d recommend, though the subject was based on recent headlines and fairly disturbing—I still had difficulty putting it down. And friends thought me crazy for reading Montana Sky while camping - in a tent - in the wilds of upper Upper Michigan for a week. Truth be told, had I known what was in store, I would have chosen a different book to read during that vacation, LOL.
Finished reading My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite, a Nigerian writer. I loved this one, and found it rather thought-provoking. It wasn’t quite what one would expect from the title.

You're right the ending of Hideaway was predictable but my thinking is that it's not the destination I enjoy the most but the journey itself so I enjoyed the book. Hopefully I will be able to read more of her books.
Listening to Cilka's Journey and reading a suspenseful ARC of The Night Visitors.
Karen — Even though the ending was predictable, I did enjoy it. I was especially interested in seeing what would happen considering the twist in the first part.
I just finished an ARC of The New Husband by D.J. Palmer which was so good I read the second half today because I had to know what happened. Now I'm listening to The Passage by Justin Cronin.
I got through a non-cozy this week, too.
Lost Hills by Lee Goldberg https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
When I'm not reading cozies, I read -Jane Austen, including some of the better new Austenesque novels
Classics - Dickens, Wilkie Collins, Conan Doyle
20th century mystery/crime writers like Mignon Eberhart, Doris Miles Disney, Vera Caspery, Mabel Seeley
Finished my reread of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix yesterday evening. Amazing how much you pick up on a second time through, though to be fair it’s been several years since my last reading. Time for a couple cozies now...
My review for
The Five Wishes of Mr. Murray McBride by Joe Siplehttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I also listened to a psychological thriller this week.
Trust Me by Hank Phillippi Ryan https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I've really gotten hooked on audio books (free from my library).I've done a re-read of three books I had previously read.
Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine
Brave New World
Wuthering Heights
Now I'm reading an ARC of Catherine House and listening to Small Great Things.
I'm rereading Terry Pratchett's Discworld, in order. I'm in the middle of #9, Eric, which is a Rincewind book. R is mistaken for a demon, with the usual hilarious results.
