Tammy wrote: "PamG wrote: "I just finished a steampunk romance novel set in a world where vampires and shifters exist: Brass Carriages and Glass Hearts [bookcover:Brass Carriages and Glass Hearts..."I read a wide variety of genres and sub-genres so I am probably not the best person to answer this question. To me, it was a historical romantic suspense novel with a few interesting modes of transportation, and various paranormal aspects to it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am not sure what steampunk books by other authors are like since this is my first one. I would say that cozy mysteries do not generally have as much action as this one. It is also not set in a small, quaint town or village but in London and Edinburgh. I highly recommend this book and can't wait to go back and read the first 3 books in the series.
This book is borderline cozy, but I'm putting it in this thread.
The Mountains Wild by Sarah Stewart Taylor https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished two non-cozies this week: To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf, and The Twenty-One Balloons by William Pène du Bois.
The first was a reread for me. Took a little less time to read than the first time, but was still a bit of a chore slogging through her extremely long “stream of consciousness” paragraphs. Beautiful writing, but you really have to work for it. This was a classic group read.
The latter is a middle-grade Newbery Medal-winning book that I thought was okay. There are parts that are rather technical for this age group, but I can see the adventure appealing to most fourth or fifth graders. I read this one for the Popsugar Ultimate Challenge (read a book with “20” or “twenty” in the title”).

My review for
The Farm at Peppertree Crossing by Leonie Kelsallhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
In addition to three cozies so far this month, I’ve also read eight short stories. Three were from the monster anthology previously mentioned—I’m about halfway through that one now. The two I enjoyed the most were “The Watcher” by Sheridan le Fanu and “The Were-wolf” by Clemence Housman (sister of A.E. Housman).
Three were read online, two of which were by Ray Bradbury: “There Will Come Soft Rains” and “The Pedestrian.” Also read two by William Faulkner.
Next up: Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh.

I am in the process of reading the In Death series by JD Robb. I am loving it. I am also making my way through the Lucas Davenport series by John Sandford. So I guess I am reading mystries a lot.
Listened to Dear Girl on Netgalley (it's a listen now book). What a beautiful collection of feminist poetry! Really enjoyed it a lot.
