PattyMacDotComma Malala Yousafzai isa another inspiring Little People BIG DREAMS book from Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. The Taliban tried to assassinate Malala, but she recovered and went on to become the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Funny Thing About Norman Foreman by Julietta Henderson follows twelve-year-old Norman, his mother, and an old codger to the Edinburgh Fringe. Don't trust me - many readers just loved this one!

PamG (lynguy1) | 1025 comments At two weeks prior to publication, I can now post my review of Steel Fear Steel Fear by Brandon Webb by Brandon Webb and John David Mann.

If you like high stakes, great characterization, and plenty of action set on board the USS Abraham Lincoln, then I recommend you check out this suspenseful and intense military thriller.

Sorrow's Twin Sorrow's Twin (Demon in Exile, #3) by Rory Surtain by Rory Surtain is a coming of age paranormal fantasy and supernatural suspense novel with a medieval-like setting. This is a good versus evil story and is the third book in the series. In my opinion, this series must be read in order.

PattyMacDotComma Carry: A Memoir of Survival on Stolen Land, by Métis author Toni Jensen, is a collection of powerful essays and stories about dispossession, trafficking, gun violence and general abuse of and disregard for the First Nations peoples of the Americas.

Jensen has had quite a life and shares it, warts and all.

Finished We'll Always Have Paris: Stories by Ray Bradbury, an enjoyable collection of short stories I have been working through the past month. A couple of my favorites were “Pieta Summer,” “A Literary Encounter,” and “Un-Pillow Talk.” “Ma Perkins Comes to Stay” was quite humorous, and contains the prophetic line, “How many other[s]...are starting the same fight tonight, doomed to lose at last, as he lost, because the rules of logic have been warped all out of shape by a little black evil electric box?” While Bradbury was referring to the radio, it could just as easily apply to televisions and cellphones. I believe this has been especially evident the last few years.

I have read several books by Bradbury since last autumn, and am finding I quite like his writing, whether contemporary short stories such as this collection, dystopian (Fahrenheit 451, which I reread last year), or even science fiction, of which I am usually not a big fan. I think my absolute favorite so far is Dandelion Wine. I have found a few other books by him available on YouTube, and have actually started listening to The Illustrated Man, another short story collection — like I don’t have enough of those in progress right now, LOL.

This is the first book in the Proper Romance Victorian series. It's part historical mystery, part police investigation, and part romance. It's suspenseful, engaging, and atmospheric.

I received this book in a Goodreads discussion group giveaway. This had a great concept, but didn't live up to my expectations. However, many readers whose opinions I respect liked this a lot more than I did.

Finished listening to The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury, free audiobook of which I found on YouTube. This collection of short stories was all science fiction, unlike the previous book of his I read, but still a lot of great stories. Some poignant, some downright creepy.

Two more collections of short stories finished: Original Short Stories - Volume 01 by Guy de Maupassant and Heavenly Date and Other Flirtations by Alexander McCall Smith. Talk about two completely different books! The former were stories set primarily during the Franco-Prussian War in France. The latter were slightly more contemporary (1950s-1960s) stories set in Africa and Australia.

It's is a well-written, engrossing, and scary-to-think-about technothriller with a conspiracy angle, some science, and a dash of history. It is the third book in the Extinction Agenda series and picks up soon after the end of book two.

I don't read anthologies very often (though I have 2 different ones for this month!) but I'm glad you enjoy them Heather!

PattyMacDotComma I, on the other hand, enjoy stories and anthologies and samplers. This is one book by one author with various stories.

Indigenous Aussie author Adam Thompson's recent collection of short stories is spot-on. The fifteen stories in Born Into This take place in Tasmania, but the problems and challenges are nation-wide.

Well worth reading.
