Charity Norman was born in Uganda, brought up in draughty vicarages in Yorkshire and Birmingham and met her future husband under a lorry in the Sahara. She spent years as a barrister in York Chambers, until - realising that her three children had barely met her - she moved with her family to New Zealand and began to write.

After the Fall/Second Chances (2013) was a Richard & Judy and World Book Night title. The New Woman/ The Secret Life of Luke Livingstone was a BBC Radio 2 Book Club choice, while See You in September (2017) was shortlisted for best crime novel in the Ngaio Marsh Awards.

Her sixth novel, The Secrets of Strangers, will be published in 2020.

The House of Sleep by Jonathan Coe
"Whenever I write a review for a pseudo-intellectual, surreal story filled with a cast that is both beautifully tragic and surprisingly uplifting in a burdened atmosphere, I become self conscious. Reviewing those types of books is like reviewing Lo..." Read more of this review »
