Library 63/50 (view spoiler)

message 11: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Switching things up a bit this year. Added goals for Hoopla and library so I use them rather than buy books.

My 20-1 challenge is going to include owned, library and Hoopla books in any format. So I’m including audiobooks, digital, physical and comics.

Kathrine | 1249 comments Good luck with your challenge! :D

message 13: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 5948 comments Why didn't I think of putting my super long lists under spoilers? That's such a good idea. I might have to try it. It takes forever to scroll through my challenge pages.

message 14: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Thanks Kathrine.

I stole the spoiler thing from Virginie and it makes it so much easier to find what I'm looking for.

message 15: by Virginie (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments Agreed, scrolling through long lists is very annoying :D

Good luck with your challenge! I like that you added Hoopla/library to your buying-ban :)

Bill | 2150 comments Virginie wrote: "I like that you added Hoopla/library to your buying-ban :)"

All about suppressing that urge to buy. I’m hoping having them on here will make me think twice before buying something because I really do have a ton of options from those sources.

Bill | 2150 comments Completed my first 20 for 1 log which is good because I already bought my reward. I picked up Red Sister in an audible sale.

Niki Hawkes - The Obsessive Bookseller | 7639 comments Mod
20 for 1?! Holy crap haha. I wouldn’t get to buy anything at that rate. Love your ambition (and the fact that you actually meet a lot of your goals).

message 24: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Thanks Niki. It’s a bit of a cheat as I’m counting basically anything that I read towards it. I tried doing the same thing last year with just purchased books and failed miserably. Audible sales killed me last year so will see what happens when those come around.

That makes sense. Even so, 20 is a lot. :)

message 26: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments So audible had a sale and I bought 6 books. 😢

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin | 1338 comments I had a 2 for 1 credit on Audible and it was the first time I didn’t find anything to get 😕. I hope they do another markdown sake soon. I usually get several on those!

message 28: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 5948 comments Bill wrote: "So audible had a sale and I bought 6 books. 😢"

Sales are hard to resist, especially on audio books since they tend to be pricey. I've been buying too many books lately too and really blowing this challenge.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin | 1338 comments I’m not in the challenge but what Tammie said! 😫

message 30: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Yeah I don’t really feel too bad considering I got 6 audiobooks for less than $30. It wasn’t a great sale I could have passed on all the books I ended up getting but for the price why not.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin | 1338 comments I do that when we have reduced price sales!! I can’t help myself 😃

message 32: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments So I finally updated this list and am really happy with how the 1st half of the year went.

I bought 24 books in total this year but 3 were from audible credits my sister got me for my birthday. I bought 3 books I already owned with whispersync(Dancer’s Lament, The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance)so I could reread them and continue their series which I did.

Books bought 2019 - 24
Read - 17
Total spent - $137.42 (doesn’t include books from my sister)
Average price per book - $6.54

So average price was super cheap considering they are all audiobooks.

I’m on target with my Hoopla loans which is great because I can’t catch up on them once I fall behind.

Only 11/50 for library but should be able to catch up on that goal.

message 33: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments I needed some more Guy Gavriel Kay after finishing The Sarantine Mosaic duology so I bought two more of his books today. His new release A Brightness Long Ago and an older one with A Song for Arbonne.

Also released today A Sword Named Truth by Sherwood Smith which jumps back into the Inda universe so I just had to get it or that’s what I’m telling myself anyway.

message 34: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Bought two books today from an audible sale Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo and The Original Folk and Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm by Jacob Grimm.

It was the audible sale at this time of the year last year when I bought 27 books so I’m pretty happy only grabbing two today.

message 35: by Hailee (new)

Hailee | 2762 comments I adore the Six of Crows I hope you enjoy it.

message 36: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Thanks Hailee. It’s been on my tbr forever so was really happy to see it in the sale.

message 37: by Bill (last edited Dec 31, 2019 09:41PM) (new)

Bill | 2150 comments So I didn’t really hit any of my goals except to read 50 books from the library. I did manage 167 reads between Hoopla and the library so that saved me a ton of money. I also only bought 39 book down from 76 in 2018 which was probably the 1st time I was below 100 purchases in a year. So overall I’m counting 2019 as a major success in terms of book buying suppression.

Bill | 2150 comments Got the Grisha trilogy books be Leigh Bardugo in the last audible sale. Her books are never available at library or hoopla so nice being able to get them on sale.

I then told my sister about the sale and bought her 8 books from it. Getting her into audiobooks is going to kill my book buying numbers for the year or that’s what I’m going to blame it on anyway.

message 40: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Updated all my yearly list and very happy to have my unread purchases under 50. Hoping to bring it down to around the 20-25 range.

message 41: by Monika (new)

Monika | 2309 comments I think I should make a lists like yours... Still have books from last... Hmm 2 years purchases I didn't read yet, shame on me :) I just can't stop myself buying books in good price :)

message 42: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments It’s definitely helped me be more aware of my purchases and makes me think before buying books I may not entirely need.

That’s awesome Bill, I wish I’d been keeping track of new purchases like that. With how well you did on the incomplete series challenge, I think you’ll be able to hit 25 with no problem.

Bill | 2150 comments Thanks Niki. I hope so.
