Derek Alan Siddoway is the 23-year-old author of Teutevar Saga, a “medieval western” series that combines elements of epic fantasy with the rugged style and mythology of American Westerns and folklore (read: John Wayne meets Game of Thrones). His journey as a storyteller began over a decade ago with a particularly thrilling foray into Pokémon fan-fiction. Ten years later, Out of Exile, his debut novel, and the first book in the Teutevar Saga, was published. An Undaunted Author, Derek spends his time writing, searching for the meaning of finesse and celebrating small victories. He’s a sucker for good quotes, peach lemonade and books with swords.

Whew. This year passed by in a crazy, wild blur of words. I’d be lying if I said I’m not a little glad that it’s over but I wouldn’t change the experiences I gained writing the Gryphon Riders Trilogy for anything. The series is doing really well so far! The majority of feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and the issues I did have (namely ensuring the least amount of typos made it to final...

“Eva laughed. It felt good after the tears and sorrow. The simple act helped her realize that the storm hanging over her heart couldn’t last forever. The winds of life had swept them up and done its best to break them each in turn. But although they were battered and broken, they’d made it out, stronger and harder than before”
Derek Alan Siddoway, Windswept

“Love, happiness, joy — all the wonderful things of life are treasured because they do not last. Time may decay, but it also heightens, that most dear to us. When time is defeated, when moments such as those are infinite, they lose all meaning.”
Derek Alan Siddoway, Windbreak

“A professional writer is an amateur who didn't quit.”
Richard Bach

“If you want to write, if you want to create, you must be the most sublime fool that God ever turned out and sent rambling. You must write every single day of your life. You must read dreadful dumb books and glorious books, and let them wrestle in beautiful fights inside your head, vulgar one moment, brilliant the next. You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads. I wish you a wrestling match with your Creative Muse that will last a lifetime. I wish craziness and foolishness and madness upon you. May you live with hysteria, and out of it make fine stories — science fiction or otherwise. Which finally means, may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.”
Ray Bradbury

“PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way.

GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.

PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?

GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.

PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.

GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings
